Valentine's Day Drama: Eden Attn: Jett

[Eden Patridge]

It had been going on for a month now. Eden wasn't sure how it had all worked out so smoothly, but Jett was completely enamored with "Raine" and still had no idea that the girl didn't really exist, or was Eden, rather. Messing with him had been a ton of fun...but a month was a long time and it was starting to get hard, coming up for reasons "Raine" couldn't meet up with him.

And today was Valentine's Day. Perhaps it would be the best day to come clean about the joke. Convince Jett to meet "Raine" for dinner or something and watch from the window as he got stood up. She could tease him about it later. Maybe that would work.

Standing at her locker, Eden pulled out the phone she'd been using to text Jett. She'd really lucked out. Her mother's assistant had quit around the same time as the formal and Eden had swiped the phone to use it to text Jett from a number he wouldn't recognize. She'd even gotten sort of used to carrying around two phones with her.

She knew she should probably check with Izzie before texting him about a Valentine's Day Date...after all, Ben still had no idea, but Izzie was totally in on it, often conspiring with Eden about what to say to Jett. But Eden wasn't sure where Izzie was and didn't want to wait too long.... After all, what if he went and found another date?

Turning on the blackberry she'd been using she started writing a text to Jett:

Happy Valentine's Day! I know I've been so busy lately, but I'm actually free tonight. I'd love to go out to dinner...hope you're not already taken...

Eden smiled to herself...now all she had to do was hit send and the plan would be in motion...

Jett had liked Raine. She seemed like a cool girl and she could kiss. He enjoyed the texts. But everything must some to an end. About a week and a half after the masquerade dance Jett had gone with Ben to the beach. While in the car Jett spotted a tube of lip gloss. The same lip gloss her had seen Raine used. Jett asked Ben about it and Ben told Jett the lip gloss belonged to Eden and that Eden's middle name was Raine. And just like that Jett made the connection. Raine was Eden.....Eden was Raine. He kissed Eden. Gross. After the shock wore off. Which took a few days. Jett asked Ben for help in getting Eden back. So Jett played along. Making Eden think he still believed Raine was a person. It was great. He would have asked Izzy but he found out Izzy was in on it when he over heard her on the phone talking about texting the guy. Jett figured she meant him. Oh his sister would pay later.

Jet had plans today. He would reveal to Eden he knew she was Raine and then he would ask her out. It was all a big joke of course. He had no feelings for Eden. Yuck. Sure he kissed her, but he thought she was someone else. It perplexed him that he liked the kiss. Shouldn't he have not liked it. Shouldn't he have known when he kissed "Raine" that it was Eden. Apparently not.

Jett walked the halls of the school looking for Eden to put his plan in motion. He smiled as he rounded a corner and saw her. He smiled. Operation pay back was in motion. She would keel over when she found out he was joking around. Jett walked over and smiled at Eden, "Yellow really is your color." He said as he ran a hand over his head and sighed, "Why didn't you just tell me. Why pretend to be this girl Raine. You could have just told me you liked me. I am flattered."

Eden recognized Jett's voice instantly. She quickly tossed the blackberry into her tote bag without sending the message, before Jett could see it. Yellow? She looked at her shirt...she was wearing red. "What are you..." she began as she turned around to face him...but then he went on.

Eden's face dropped. Her blue eyes widened as she looked up at him. "What? How...how did you find out?" she demanded. "Did Izzie tell you?" And then something else clicked in her head. He thought she liked him? Okay, maybe she had let him kiss her and maybe she had kissed him back...but she'd only done it to play along. She hadn't even liked the kiss...okay, maybe that part was a lie, but still, just because someone was a good kisser didn't mean that she liked them. Lots of people were probably good kissers and it didn't mean that she was supposed to like all of them!

"I. Don't. Like. You." she said the words slowly, hoping they would sink in. If it was anyone else it would probably be okay, but once Jett got something into his head....ug this was a disaster! And just when she was going to really make a fool of him!

"We're not even friends," Eden went on, "you didn't recognize me and I took advantage of it and started messing with you. It was supposed to be a joke. I don't like you," she said again, hoping he'd believe her because the teasing was already bad enough without him thinking she had a crush on him. "I was trying to get you back..."

As he listened to her try and speak it was cute. He had to keep breathing deeply to keep from laughing. It was just too funny. The look on her face was priceless, but for now he stayed strong and kept up his serious face. Oh yes, Jett had to hand it to Eden this payback was defiantly a nice one. It was nice to see her fight back, but you never mess with the master. All Jett did was simply smile at Eden and pulled out the tube of lip glass from his pocket, "You left it in your brothers car, but thanks for letting me know Izzy was in on it. I will have to talk to her later." Of course he knew Izzy had been in on it.

"Come on now.....there is no need to lie." He moved a little closer, "Its okay to like me. We have known each other forever. I understand. I am sure Ben and Izzy won't mind either. Why keep lying." He smiled and touched her cheek softly. This was just too good. Messing with Eden was the best.

"While I do admire your claim.." He used his fingers and put the word claim in air quotes, "that this was payback....I think you and I both know the truth. As for me not recognizing you, well can you blame me. Seeing you in a dress like that well....I never thought I would see the day." He said.

"You did look really cute at the dance. It wounds me when you say we are not friends, but now I know why. You have more then friendly feelings for me. You of all people Eden. I must admit I am quite shocked." It was taking everything Jett had not to say this was a joke, but this was much funner. Torturing Eden was priceless.

"Damn it," Eden said when he pulled her lip gloss out of his pocket. She snatched it out of his hand...she'd been looking for that. She'd even bought a new one. "When did you figure it out?" she had to ask. How long had he known? Maybe he'd just figured it out. As she put some of her lip gloss on before slipping the tube safely into the pocket of her jeans, she regretted mentioning Izzy. She'd have to give her friend the heads up and remember to yell at Ben for not warning her about this.

As he touched her cheek and moved a little closer, Eden took a step back, inadvertently, falling into her open locker. Cracking up for a second, she quickly contained herself as she pulled herself up and out of her locker. "Don't touch me," she scolded. "And Ben and Izzy don't have to understand anything because nothing is going to happen. I don't like you."

As he went on, Eden made a face. Now she was getting scared...this was going from bad to worse in a matter of seconds. Did he actually like her? Had she actually done such a good job pretending to be Raine that he still liked her after he found out who she was? Eden had no idea...Jett wasn't exactly trustworthy...he could just be messing with her...but with each word he said she was getting more and more convinced that he actually did have a thing for her. Her stomach turned. This was bad...colossally bad...

"I don't have more than friendly feelings...its more like less than friendly feelings," Eden said. "I don't like you...not as a friend...not as more than a friend...not at all." She shook her head. "You don't even like me...you're...you're just messing with me to get me back for messing with you but its not going to work because I don't believe you," she said, but the only problem was that she did believe him. It would sort of make sense why he always gave her a hard time, wouldn't it? She'd have to ask Izzy about it. If Jett really liked her, Izzy would know...right? This was such a mess....

"I found it about two weeks ago. But I was intrigued to see how far you would take this. I knew you were shy, but not that shy. Come on....you could have given me some clue. If I knew you liked me enough to lie to me all this time I could have saved you the trouble. I mean really Eden, why try and get me to like this Raine person. Did you not think I would like you for you." Jett could tell he was getting to her. She was nervous. He laughed when she fell back into her locker. Oh yeah she was nervous.

"Ben and Izzy have to understand they are our siblings. Besides think of how we would feel if they started dating." Jett said. This was too good. She might think he was messing with her, but her body language said she actually believed him. Damn Jett was mean and good. He liked Eden as a friend sure but not as more then that.

"Why don't we test it shall we. Now that I know its you we should retry that kiss. See if the feelings are reciprocated." Before she could even answer Jett placed his hand behind her head and brought her lips to his. He kissed her. Just as he suspected....it was good, but disturbing also. It was still good though. She could kiss. Jett finally let her go, "Nope sorry babe. I am afraid you are in this alone. I don't see this...." he pointed to her and him, "happening. Maybe now you can find someone else." The look on her face after the kiss....priceless. I was so worth whatever she would do to him.

"What? Two weeks ago?" She was genuinely surprised and annoyed by this. And Ben had known too, which made her even angrier. Why had he continued it all? Why had he waited now to bust her? Had he waited till Valentine's Day for a reason. Shaking her head, she sighed loudly, "For the millionth time, it was a joke. I was messing with you--was going to get you to meet up with Raine tonight and then laugh when you got stood up." There was no use hiding the plan from him now...

"Ew-weird," Eden said to the notion of her brother and her best friend, "but not as weird as us. I don't like you so get it out of your head that I do!" she demanded but it was too late, Jett was already going on about how they should kiss and Eden looked and felt like she was going to be sick. How was she going to get herself out of this one?

Before she could resist, he grabbed her and started to kiss her. Unlike the last time, when she'd been pretending, she didn't even attempt to kiss back. And lip movement on her part accompanied muffled sounds of her attempting to scream. She pushed on his chest, beating him with her fists, but her stregnth was no match for his and she was forced to endure the entire kiss which was annoyingly good, which made her hate the whole thing even more.

When he let her go, she over dramatically started to gag as if she was going to puke. "That was disgusting!" she said loudly. "You are so vile," she said, gagging once more. She hit him as hard as she could in the chest and although she was relatively strong for a girl, she doubted her punch did much to him, but felt good never-the-less.

"Good! Find someone else! Great idea. Best idea Ever," she said, nodding sarcastically. She rummaged through her bag and pulled out a pack of gum, putting two pieces in her mouth at the same time. "Bet the whole pack won't be enough to get rid of your grossness," she said, being over dramatic again, since the fruity flavor of them gum clearly took over her taste buds.

jett cracked up laughing when she hit his chest. She was surprisingly strong but it still did not hurt. "That was your plan. To stand me up. Oh come on Eden, there must have been something better then that. You should of had me announce on the intercom that i am looking for a girl named Raine and then you should have announced I was punk ed because there is no Raine. Now thats a plan. being stood up, while you watch, very amateur. I thought I taught you better then that."

he smiled as she took out the gum and stuck the pieces in her mouth. "Well i do not need one. That lip gloss really does cover up any taste you have. hence why I like it so much." Jett licked his lips, "Yummmmmm." He said still laughing. Oh this was great. The look on Eden's face and the hits were well worth it.

"Admit you liked the kiss at least. I have been told I am a good kisser. But I am just glad you are finally playing the game. Way to fight back. But never mess with the master. " Jett was cocky about that. Sure had he not found the lip gloss Eden's plan would have succeeded, but still. he did find it so...."So whats the next plan? How are you going to get payback this time. i am intrigued if this fighting spirit will stick around."

"Well its not like it was a set in stone plan...I didn't really plan anything...it all sort of fell into place so I decided to go for it." She decided not to tell him about the idea she'd had to get him to wait for Raine naked in the girl's bathroom because although it would be a more mortifying site, she was sure he'd take it the wrong way.

Eden made a face when he said he liked her lip gloss. "I'll have to start using a different one," she groaned. After all, the last thing she needed was him trying to kiss her or something just because he liked her gloss. Maybe she'd have to switch to something that wasn't flavored...but that wasn't quite as much fun.

"Yeah...I liked it so much I think I threw up in my mouth a little," she retorted. Maybe it was true...maybe he was kind of a good kisser, but she was never ever going to admit that, not to anyone. She hadn't even admitted to Izzy that she'd liked the kiss. "If anyone liked it, it was you or you wouldn't have tried to do it again," she said arrogantly. Now that he wasn't pretending to like her anymore, she felt slightly more relaxed, but then again she was never completely relaxed around Jett, mostly because she was never sure of what was coming.

"I don't have a plan. I didn't exactly plan out the last one, but maybe I should start planning...and when I do come up with something, it's going to be good so you just wait," she said. It was all talk of course and he probably knew it, but Eden didn't care. She was tired of being the weak one around him and especially after the prank she'd almost pulled off, she was pretty confident that she could get him back if she really tried.

Jett laughed at everything she said. Eden was a trip. That was for sure. Messing with her was one of the best things to do. She always got so riled up by it. He had to admit the prank was a good one. She had him completely fooled until her found the lip gloss. It was a nice try.

"I am sure you threw up. Yeah right." He said not believing her, "I have to admit you are not a bad kisser. Could be better. You should find someone to work on it with." He smiled. Jett would not deny enjoying a kiss. It meant nothing to him at admit it. Eden was the one with the obvious issue. Which just amused him more.

"Oh come on. If you are going to get me good then I will be waiting forever." Jett said with a smile. "But if you must. I guess pulling a prank when I am old and gray works too." This time he laughed. "i kind of hope you do prank me. But I warn you. It will not be easier. Might as well just accept that this is how it will always be."
