Fortune shined on Gould's resident pranksters that night. Taking over the DJ had turned out far easier than expected, largely because he was someone that Patch actually knew -- Garland Miller, a local radio celebrity, one the teenager routinely pestered about playing whatever music happened to be his current obsession. They were not quite friends, but respected each other due to mutual music snobbery. So when Patch offered to take over DJ duties so Garland could feast the DJ had gladly accepted. So now the music was in the control of a boy who thought Animal Collective was accessible and that bird techno was the height of cool.
He had wanted very much to see how people would react if he played a whole bunch of instrumental post-metal and experimental art rock, but as Mallory had promised to maim him terribly if he didn't play party music he (somehow) managed to keep it what he considered party music - Oingo Boingo and The Clash and The Ramones (For Mal's benefit, he claimed), Fischerspooner, Ima Robot, Le Tiger, You Say Party We Say Die, and of course, most importantly, of Montreal. He loved having control over the music everyone had to listen to, even if he did have to limit himself somewhat to danceable tunes, which was kind of disappointing; he would have loved to play more of a variety. And he wasn't sure he would even get to play all the music he had lined up, as he some people coming over to his booth. Time to hurry up with the main attraction.
He saw Evan finishing up preperations on the cake in one corner, and nodded when he caught the other boy's eye. Time for the most distracting song he could muster up -- Boot Scoot Boogy. He was sure Mal would mock him relentlessly for having that anywhere on his playlist, but hey, she was going to have to suffer through it, so for the moment he didn't care. And he was certain that all the pretty boys and girls at the party hated country with a passion; that was, after all, the cool opinion to have on the matter. He didn't think even their punk rock would annoy them as much as playing a country line dance at their high brow function.

Winking at his friend when Patch caught his gaze, Evan lingered happily in the corner, waiting for the time to make his move. He cast an eye over the rest of the room, keeping an eye on everyone else. He wasn’t new at this after all, and he wasn’t going to let anything get in the way of the best prank Gould, and Silver for that matter, had ever seen. At least for that week. He, Patch and possibly Mal and Brit, now they were showing their true pranking colours, were sure to think of something else cool real soon. Had to keep busy, after all.
He watched Mal move around the room with the camera, pretending to film the party, and spotted his girlfriend annoy her stepsister, doing a damn job if Aly’s expression was anything to go by. Evan held back a laugh, after all, he didn’t want to bring any more attention to himself, seeing as how holding a chocolate cake and wearing pretty crappy clothes compared to everyone else already made him stand out pretty well.
The song Patch starting playing was perfect, well, actually it was terrible, but perfect in this instance, achieving the desired purpose of getting everyone’s attention. And so he moved, quickly placing the cake on the table in the centre of the room, for maximum icing coverage after all. When he was sure no one but his group were looking, he lit the fuse, slinking off as he held two fingers out to Mal, a signal they planned beforehand. Which had the very secret meaning of two minutes till exploding cake.

Brittany let out a sigh of relief. Annoying step-sister, funny, yes, very funny, but it had gone on much too long. Brittany was starting to go brain dead just listening to the girl. She glanced around the room seeing her various friends in various places, all prepared for the prank. She normally didn't wear a watch, but she'd put one on tonight to keep time. Two minutes. It wasn't much time but it was time for a quick break. She could always run back towards Aly before cake time and make sure to push her forward so she'd have direct contact with the cake. Heck, Brit could even hide behind her if she wanted. Although Brittany didn't think she'd mind being covered in chocolate cake. After all, it would be delicious.
Spotting Evan with the cake, she headed over to him. Okay, maybe they weren't supposed to call attention to themselves, but he was her boyfriend. She was pretty sure talking to him for a minute to get some sanity wouldn't hurt...
She stepped away from Alyson, sticking her tongue at her as she went. The party was rather fancy and Brittany did have to admit she felt a little out of place. Normally she didn't care about these things, and she didn't in this case either...she just stuck out like a sore thumb in her purple jeans while everyone else was all dressed up in suits and cocktail dresses. Oh well, the way she was dressed probably annoyed Aly even more, so in the end it was well worth it.
"Hey," she said, approaching Evan, "you need any help? I know its almost go time," she added, lowering her voice, "but I was about to strangle myself over there so...yeah..."

Patch slid his glance over to see Evan light the cake, then quickly found his music terribly, terribly fascinating, just in time for Garland to stamp up to him, looking more bemused than angry.
"Hey, what's the deal? Thought you were gonna watch my booth, not annoy my clients!"
Patch shrugged, "They can't appreciate decent music, that's their prob." He informed the DJ. "I thought these were some great party tunes." He checked his watch, then glanced over to the cake. Ten seconds to go...."Duck!" He warned, tugging at the Garland's arm, trying to drag him down as chocolate cake was flung across the entire length of the room.
As soon as the roar of the fireworks died away he peered over the edge of the booth, glancing around to witness the devestation. It was terrifying, all those expensive outfits now decorated with frosting, and all those pretty rich kids looking furious or devestated or afraid. It was probably time for them to book it, before this turned into another episode of Patch and Evan get the shit beat out of them.
He hoped that Mal got as much of the reactions on tape as possible, though, before they hightailed it out of there, because this was something that HAD to be uploaded to youtube. They had to replace their burning house footage, after all.
"Thanks, man, it was good seeing you again. Keep up the awesome music," He tried not to grin at Garland, as the DJ looked dismayed. The boy hoped he hadn't ruined the man's chances with high-paying clientele, but he had needed to distract everyone from the flying cake somehow. "Gotta run, was a great party."
He made his way to the door, not exactly dashing, because everyone's attention was at the moment focused in the direction the cake had been, and running probably would have been suspicious. More suspicious than his faded denims and hoody were. He leaned up against the wall, waiting for Evan, Brit and Mal to join him. Now they'd played Puck, it was time to beat it and admire their handiwork on film. At least, that's kind of what he was hoping...
(ooc: I decided to explode the cake already, hope this is okay)

Evan gave a bright grin at his girlfriend, not at all surprised she was getting frustrated with Aly. The way he saw it, it was more confusing if someone didn’t get frustrated by the girl, at least, normal people anyway. Everyone here, the non-cool people (aka everyone who was either not a friend of Evan’s, rich and/or snobby) seemed to like the step sister from hell just fine. Not grating or annoying as anyone actually sane should. He figured it was something about those of one species sticking together.
Even if Brit saw it differently, Evan thought his girlfriend looked hot, and he did the perfectly normal thing of taking every spare opportunity that night to check her out. She was so completely his type, all rocker chick and all. The other girls in the room just didn’t do it for him. All frocked up and girly, sure, that had its appeal, and on the occasion that Brit wore a skirt, he was far from complaining, but, he liked his girl just fine the way she was.
“Nah, everything’s all good beautiful.” he smiled. He was at a party, even if it was a boring party, with his girlfriend and some of his closest friends, and they were about to pull a mad prank. And it involved exploding food! Everything was definitely all good.
Wrapping an arm around her shoulder, he led her a little bit away, where they would still get a great view of the cake blowing up, and hopefully get hit by some of that chocolaty goodness himself. “This is going to be so sweet Brit. And everyone else is going to be so pissed he laughed. He glanced down at his watch, before looking around for Patch and Mal in turn, mouthing how much time they had left.
And, almost exactly on time, he couldn’t be blamed for being a few seconds off, the real fun started, cake and icing flying everywhere. “Haha, awesome!” he whispered in Brit’s ear as some cake hit his shirt. All this panic, and chocolate, and people getting varying degrees of angry, annoyed and upset, it was great. And, he could have sworn he saw a girl getting teary over her ruined outfit. It was then he noticed Patch making a quick exit and decided it was best to do the same, while everyone’s attention was elsewhere. Even if it would have been fun to admire their handiwork further. “Let’s get going.”
(OOC: Ok? Haha, it's brilliant!)

Brit nodded and let Evan lead her away. It was cake time and her heart was pounding--full of excitement! From where she stood she watched the cake but kept her eyes focused on Aly mostly, watching her reaction as the cake and frosting splattered all over her. Priceless!
Originally Brit had wanted to be by Aly when it happened. She wanted to push her closer to the wreckage so she'd get hit even worse. But seeing her getting covered in cake she realized it was better she stay far away. Certainly, had she been right next to Aly she'd get all the blame. She'd probably get it anyway, but at least now she'd have a chance of escaping.
Brit's eyes were too focused on everyone's reactions to notice Patch slip away. She didn't move until she heard Evan's voice. "Right...going...good idea," she said. She grabbed his hand as they headed towards the door. She saw Patch there too. "That was awesome!" she whispered when they reached him. She couldn't hold those words in.
Opening the door and heading out into the hallway of the hotel, Brit hoped that no one had noticed them leave.

"I know!" Patch agreed with Brit's assessment of the situation. The shouted demands to know who the culprits were, though, only increased his desire to clear out while they still could. The party had been too easy to crash, largely thanks to Brittany's connections with Alyson -- thank heavens for parental insistance that step-siblings drag one another along -- but that didn't mean they wouldn't be in big trouble when everyone realized just who had blown up the cake.
He was about to follow the red-headed girl and his friend out into the hall when he noticed that someone was missing. "Wait, where's the pop princess?" He hissed, looking around for the dark-haired punkette. Sure, she needed to get good footage, but they couldn't risk having her get caught! And as much as he loved to make fun of her, he didn't want any harm to befall her, and getting caught would certainly count as harm.
"Aw, crap." He muttered once he spotted her, on the far side of the room. There was no way she was going to be able to escape unnoticed. "You guys go, I'll get her." He grumbled, determined not to leave her behind.
He darted back into the middle of the room, trying to get their camerawoman's attention. "Hey, Mal, over here!!"
Once he had reached her he grabbed her by the wrist, trying not to show his distaste at this, because it was needed, "C'mon, we're leaving." He tugged her urgently towards the door.
ooc: I uhh hope Karen forgives me for moving Mal. And I dun' mind if I get caught trying to save Mal. =p

Mal spent most of the party on the out skirts of the people. She filmed everything she could. Especially Brit bothering Aly. Mal got some great shots of that. Everything seemed to be going fine. She caught Patch and Evan's gaze a few times. She turned her camera to Patch when he played the ridiculous song. Mal even said to the camera, "And he calls himself a DJ. He could have at least picked the electric slide. That's much better." Mal then turned the camera back to the crowd. She saw Evan give the signal. This would be great. The only part that sucked was JJ was not able to make it. She had begged for JJ to come, but he had a prior engagement. Oh well. He would at least get a kick out of the film.
Mal moved to the far corner of the room. It had the best view of all the guests. She scanned the room and zoomed in. She was ready and highly prepared. Mal could not help but suppress a giggle. It was hard not to laugh at the thought of an exploding cake. She checked her watch and silently began a countdown. 3...2...1....BOOM! The cake exploded. Mal suffered minor icing damage but the reactions she got were priceless. Mal loved it. She started laughing hysterically and filming everyone she could.
They included a few girls crying, a perfect shot of whom she assumed to be the guest of honor, although she was not sure. Mal even got a good shot of Aly cursing and looking around for someone. Mal assumed it was Brit. The poor girl was sure to get blamed by the step monster. Mal got so caught up in filming reactions she had not even though about escaping. Hell she did not even hear Patch call her name. It was not until he grabbed her wrist and started dragging her to the door she noticed, "Wait....Just a few......" Mal tried to protest, but it was too late. She pressed the button to stop recording and let Patch drag her out.
Once they were safe Mal looked at Patch, "What the hell were you thinking. Playing that country crap." She lightly pushed him, "Seriously. Where the hell did you get that bright idea from." Mal shook her head and carefully put the video camera in her big purse. She started wiping chocolate off her face. "But um....thanks for coming to get me. Aly was looking around and it was only a matter of time until she spotted me...so um thanks...you didn't have to do that." Mal said giving Patch a small smile. It was weird he had come back and helped her escape. Then again they all did have a no man left behind policy. "I got excellent footage."

It was awesome, Evan had to agree with Brittany’s opinion of the cake blowing up. It was just a shame they couldn’t stay around longer to linger in their awesomeness. When Patch ran back in to get Mal, that a slight surprise in itself, he couldn’t bring himself to grab Brit and run. They were all in it together after all. Besides, if Mal & Patch got busted, they would need the two of them to do another cool (aka stupid but fun) thing as a diversion, to bust them free. It quickly became apparent this wasn’t needed however, Patch soon headed back to them, with Mal in tow. And they were actually touching, oddly enough.
“Oh, will you look at this Brit!” Evan grinned, wrapping an arm around Brittany’s shoulder as he pulled her closer, looking directly at Patch and Mal once their friends joined them, and Mal thanked his best mate. “Aren’t they so sweet together? I’m just so...this is making me so emotional.” he apologised, trying his best to get his eyes to tear up as he choked back a sob. “I am just so excited. I always said, didn’t I Brit, that they would be a perfect couple. I knew those two kids would be crazy about each other. Just think, they might hold hands soon. Again. Maybe even a date! Oh, this is just wonderful!” Evan managed to get all this out in a state of semi seriousness before bursting out into laughter. “Seriously, JJ had better watch his back. You two make a real cute...couple. I can’t even say that without laughing.”
Before Patch or Mal could retaliate, spurned on by the excitement of the night, Evan pulled his girlfriend to him to give her a big, fat kiss on her lips. “Well, come on people. The night is still young! Let’s get going.”

Mal eyed Evan and then Patch as he spoke. She had to admit it was pretty funny. She could not help, but laugh. "Me and DJ Fluff....eww no. Besides Patchy here does not even like girls." At least that's how it was in Mal's mind. She felt Patch was actually gay. That's how she reasoned that it was okay to mess with him ant stuff. It was pure fun and nothing more....right? Mal shrugged and looked at Patch. She smiled.
"Then again maybe Evan is right." Mal placed an arm around Patch and laid her head on his shoulder. "Maybe I do want Patch. I just can't help it any more. I can't help how I feel." Mal tried to keep a serious face. She began to fake getting teary eyed, "but I am afraid it will never be reciprocated. Patch wants guys and not girls. If only I had been born a man." Mal wiped a fake tear.
She eyed Brit and then Evan and smiled busting out laughing. She pushed Patch away playfully while busting a gut laughing, "sorry I could not resist. Patch is so easy to mess with. Seriously Patch and me....really....are you insane.....we would kill each other....."
Well that's what she thought. Besides she had JJ. So no reason to worry, "JJ has nothing to worry about. Now I say we go track down some milk. Because chocolate cake taste good with milk." Mal said walking over and pushing Evan, "that's for the cute couple comment. That was so wrong. Besides like I said he's gay. Poor guy has never had a girl friend. Maybe we should find him one or a boyfriend. Then we could triple date....you have a preference Patch?" She smiled.
(OOC: I could not help it. I felt Mal should reply to Evan before Patch got a chance to, lol)
