Trainers pounded on pavement to the rhythm of Bishop Allen's Rain as boy and dog raced toward the Kimball house. Both were as eager to return to their own territory as they had been to leave earlier in the morning. It was a routine, one that went un-altered no matter weather or school and only rarely pushed aside for reasons of health: before breakfast or showers the pair headed out of doors, sprinting through the neighborhood, returning just as the rest of the household turned to wakefulness.
There were always others awake along their route, of course: Elementary and Middle school students (and their parents) during the week, and other dog-walkers just as devoted. K.B. was on friendly terms with just about everyone, and Patch nodded to the other humans as he passed, occasionally halting for a breath and quick exchange of words with the other males, trying to escape with no more than minimal acknowledgment with the females, though K.B. desperately wanted to stop and sniff at them.
"Shit! You bothering people again?" Patch demanded of his dog when the canine once again stopped to press his wet nose against someone's leg. A girl, of course; his dog was a little girl-crazy. "C'mon, boy, leave her alone!"
He recognized the girl, though as she was in fact a girl he didn't have much to do with her. Nick had tried his hand at flirting with her before nabbing Holly, and he knew that his parents (being generally inclined toward neighborliness) had brought the obligatory gift basket by her house when she'd first moved in almost two years ago, but though he'd trailed behind them when told the family had someone his own age he'd been thoroughly disappointed that this someone was a girl. He'd attempted to engage her younger brother, but he seemed to be intent on always having his sister in tow so Patch had quickly given up hope of really befriending him.
"Sorry 'bout him, Yuri." He apologized, trying to get his malamute to return to him without going too near. She was never out during his morning runs, and it was unusual to see her without her brother, and frankly he didn't know exactly if he ought to escort her back to her house or not. After all, girls were already in need of male protection (which he really disliked having to provide, frankly) and she was more delicate than even regular girls, since she had vision problems. She managed to get by fairly decently (Nick claimed she wasn't completely incapable of sight, and that blindness referred to a range of vision problems) but still, her brother had to help her out, so maybe he should be concerned she was out on her own? This was the problem with girls, he wasn't sure how much help he was supposed to be giving them.
"Umm. So ummm you're out awful early. Where's Ritz?"

Yuri was counting her steps as usual when she walked out of her house quietly. She wasn't going to use her stick or her dog, or her personal seeing eye brother. Mom left last night to catch a flight on the next red eye. She told her kids to behave and she'll be home in 2 weeks. Yuri didn't mind her mom always flying which means gives Yuri the upper hand to try and get away doing what ever she wanted with out worry warts on her back. Ritz was still asleep, he wanted to sleep in and Yuri wanted to make sure he got that. As she reached a few more steps away from the porch. She smiled as she manage to escape from home with out the usual. ("Yuri watch out, or use your cane, or take Wolverine with you! and last but not least, wait for me Sis!")
The day seemed nice to her touch. Good thing she was wearing shorts and a t-shirt with a sweater. grey new balance sneakers and her hair up in a pony tail. Yuri closed her eyes fully as she felt the sun light bath her and hearing the soft sounds of the birds chirping and the soft random gust of wind passing by in the air. Yuri started to walk again and further from the house. She wanted to start familiarize herself in this neighborhood. As she started to get further away from her house she then felt a wet nose touched her leg. Yuri looked down to see the blurry object and to her guess it was a dog.
"Hey!" she softly said as she then turned around and slightly lowered her self and felt for the dogs face and ears and started to pet it. She knew it wasnt her dog but then when she heard a familiar voice it was Patch. "Hey Patch!" She kinda smiled. "No it's okay he's just a sweet heart!" Yuri said as she smiled towards the dog and ruffled behind his ears. "You caught me sneaking out huh boy?" she said to the dog and then looks towards Patch's voice when he asked where her brother was.
Yuri stood to her feet and stuff her hands in the pocket of her shorts. "He's sleeping, I thought I let him sleep in and give him a break from baby sitting me!" She said. "You always out this early?" she asked. She then realized she lost count on the steps but not to worry she remembered she had her back turned to patch and the dog at the moment so she should be facing the right way to head back to her porch. "You, mind not telling my brother that I'm out and about on my own please!" she asked as she shrugs. "I'll never hear the end of it!" she said with a small smile.
Yuri had some small run ins with the Kimball twins a couple of times but it was more of a "Hi, sorry later" This was the first time Patch actually said anything than sorry. He actually was wondering where her brother was. To her it was unusual for him to asked. She was very shy about guys, it wasn't that she didnt like guys she was just not sure of their intentions, and she usually keeps her distance from them. The only guy in her life is close enough to lead or drive her to school and back is of course her brother. But it was a nice change to actually interact with more of her own age even if he is a guy. what is the worse can it get.
"So whats playing on your device?" Yuri asked she heard music softly blarring through his head set and since her vision is very blurry she couldn't tell what device he uses to listen to music.

"Yep." Patch confirmed when Yuri inquired into his early rising. "Rain or shine."
He wasn't sure whether he ought to do as she asked and keep this secret from Ritz. After all, as Ritz was the man, he ought to be the one in charge. However, if he said anything he would have to explain why he hadn't marched her right back home (which was only about three steps away anyway) and he didn't want to force her to go back, because that was too much work and he wasn't sure how exactly he would manage that, anyway. "Umm. Sure." He decided after a moment, hoping that her brother didn't say anything to him about it. Not that this was very likely, as the two spoke sparingly when at all. Just a friendly greeting. Sort of.
"Bishop Allen." He informed her in response to her next question, regarding the music he was listening to. "Err, well, it was Bishop Allen." He allowed himself a small grin as the music changed. "Now it's Boat Club. Listen?" He asked, taking out one ear-bud and pressing it to her ear. If there was one topic that was prone to making him forget that girls were mysterious aliens, it was music. He couldn't resist making everyone acknowledge that he had awesome taste.
"Device? You...you don't automatically call it an iPod. You're my hero." He added, pleased that anyone (especially a girl!) had the intelligence to recognize that there were, in fact, other (superior) music playing devices. "It's a sandisk. It's the best."

Yuri smiled when Patch said he guess he wont tell. "thanks!" she said, and then leans into the ear bud he put in her ear. She heard the interesting sound it was different from what she is use to. Her brother listens to Rock and hip hop. But this what Patch was listening to was way better. "Wow... I honestly never heard anything like this before, I really like this!" she commented as she smiled. "I'm use to hearing my brother's racket!" she said. "I usually listen to um... random things on the raido or classical!" she made a face. "My mom thinks making me listen to Classical will keep me very smart!" she said sarcasticly.
"But this is really awesome... you said boat club? it's really cool!" she said and then blushed a bit. "Um... what genre is this?" she asked feeling silly but she hasn't yet listen to all the genre yet in her life.
"Sandisk? hmm your right its the best!" she agreed. Her brother listens to of course an Ipod. But Yuri knew very well there was more than an Ipod that people using to listen to music or mp3s. Since there were so many different devices in the world that was the only way she can call them sense she couldn't really see exactly what sort of device.
"I think I just have a standard cd player and my brother just makes up mix cd's for me!" she explained. "I gotta have this copy of this song!" she said as she smiled.

Patch was pleased when Yuri complemented his taste in music. To be sure, he agreed with her that he had fantastic taste, but he had great difficulty convincing anyone else that this was true, with the exception of Evan, who also had pretty decent taste but didn't care to expand past the mainstream without prodding.
"Yeah, Boat Club. They're a Swedish pop duo," He supplied helpfully. "Sweden has a pretty keen indie scene. You might like Sambassadeur, if you like Boat Club. Or Mixtapes and Cellmates." He realized that she probably wasn't going to remember any names if he listed a whole bunch of bands, so he added, "I'll make you a CD if you want."
She would be the first chick he'd made a mixed tape (or CD or whatever) for, unless Mallory counted. Which she didn't, because he only made them for her as a means of continuing their war over whether punk or indie pop music was superior. He was offering Yuri because she had expressed interest, and his desire to spread his music trumped his general avoidance of the female sex.
"Classic is okay, it's just old." He opined. He didn't mind classical music, or the orchestral arrangements that most people labeled classical without really bothering to figure out vintage, but it was old and he liked to listen to whatever was current. "But yeah, don't listen to the radio, unless it's the college station it probably plays stuff that sucks ninety percent of the time. If it's college radio the music only sucks sixty percent of the time. Or something. I just made those statistics up, but I stand by my point. Music on the radio mostly sucks."

Yuri, was a bit surprised how they were suddenly getting into a conversation. A conversation with a guy, yeah she had a conversation with another guy yesterday but it wasn't a real conversation. It was more of an akward like conversation, nothing wrong just a surprise. But this conversation with Patch was really different, it mean they actually had something in common. music. Yuri was starting to feel a bit better and comfortable.
Since she moved here to California from Texas, she was mostly use to just hanging out with her brother and her mom and some of their family friends. But now it was just her, and Ritz most of the time and their mom was always on flights. But usually Ritz would hang out with his friends when he was at his school and sometimes when Yuri didnt want to goes anywheres just stay at home listen to music if she was really tired she would just sleep.
Then she heard Patch offered to make a CD of the stuff she was listening to and familiar stuff to it. Yuri smiled. "Yeah thanks that would be awesome!" She said. She wasn't those kind of girls that would go ("Aww no one has never made me a cd before, you are so sweet") Yuri couldn't even think or act that way because she hasn't really got to be really a girl. But she didn't care, she couldn't she can't see! "Well there's also some opera I like, Phantom of the Opera of course!" she said as if it was obvious. "I always wanted to actually go to a real live theater but.. my mom refused to take me cause she told me its no use since I can't see!" Yuri said with a frown. She shook her head thinking maybe now she was ruin the conversation.
"But anyways yeah I would love to have a copy of a CD thank you again. Raidos... yeah, I agree music from Radio stations do suck. Especially when they play the same song every 4 to 5 hours!" Yuri giggled. "I use to listen to country when we were still living in Texas, at that time it was great but... now here its so different." she said.

Patch dug his hands into K.B.’s fur, focusing his attention more on his dog than on the person he was conversing with. It was probably a good thing that Yuri couldn’t see, as this tendency generally offended the women he attempted (however reluctantly) to have conversations with.
“I guess that would suck.” He offered when she mentioned wishing she could go see a play. Plays weren’t really his deal, though several of his friends enjoyed them. Kian might not mind helping her out there, since he didn’t have a problem hanging around girls for long periods of time. He’d even admitted that his best friend back in New York had been female – this knowledge didn’t sit entirely well with Patch, however, as he felt a bit insulted he’d been replaced by a chick. “I, uhh have a friend who does plays and shit, he could…ummm….I dunno. Help.” He had no idea how Kian could help, but you were supposed to help girls, right? So would helping one of them go see listen to a play count as the sort of protective role men were obligated to perform?
“Yeah! They’re real repetitive! Country isn’t too bad. There are a few alt and freak folk bands who are kinda like country…ish. Most people here only listen to bland pop rock sell out crap.” He agreed wholeheartedly, still speaking down toward his dog, who was wagging his tail excitedly at making a new friend. “Umm. Yeah. So.” Now that it had been established that he was making a mixed CD (which was always fun, no matter who it was for) he wasn’t sure how to continue their conversation. What did girls talk about? Perfume and make up and crap? He didn’t know anything about that.

Yuri smiled and shrugged. "thanks" she said. commented on his offer that he could get a friend of his to maybe help her out to get the experince in the play. She then slightly frown a bit when she got the sense that Patch was trying to avoid something as she saw the figure now attending to his dog. She may not see his face or anything like that clearly but she can sense it, it was offensive or anything just confusing. then again she was confusing her self. She wondered how teenage boys and girls react and actually interact with each other.
Yuri didn't know much what girls do either, she couldn't really see, but from what she could hear around her in the past her mother babbling or gossiping over the phone or to a friend about none sense. Her brother on the other hand she hears him sometimes laughing and joking with the guys, and sometimes try and talk to girls. And then some weird sounds next door from her room. But she shook her head a minute and came back to reality till she heard a voice coming from behind her from the house. "YURI!!" cried Ritz.
Yuri flinched at the sound and suddenly turned around to fast with out even thinking, she lost her balance and fell back hitting the ground hard. As she let out a soft grunt, the pain was bareable, and quick it didn't seem to bother Yuri as she stared up at the sky when she let out a emotionaless comment "Ow...!" she said. "Oh shit Yuri! Hold on I'll be there in a jiff!" cried Ritz from his window. For a moment she forgotten what she was doing outside in the first place and then felt a wet nose against her cheek. And remembered that she was having a conversation with Patch.
Ritz came dashing through the front door and onto the pourch. "Yuri you alright!" he called out as he then finally stood by Yuri. "Patch hey man you think you can give me a hand with her please?" He asked urgently. Yuri was lost in thought now and confused at to what was happening. "I'm fine really! I'm okay!" she insisted calmly.

Patch hovered uncertainly while Ritz ran from the house. He knew he ought to help somehow, but he wasn't really sure how. It was definitely a good thing that Ritz had appeared or else he would probably have simply asked if she was okay and then stood there trying to figure out what to do. As it was, her brother took charge, used to helping Yuri after years of being her guardian.
"Uhhhh, yeah, sure." He agreed, pushing K.B. away with one hand. "Sorry, boy. Stay. I'll be right back." He promised his dog.
K.B. whined and lowered himself to the ground, crossing front paws and looking up at his human mournfully. He wanted to help, too! But clearly his help wasn't wanted.
Patch frowned before crouching down to help Ritz lift Yuri to her feet. Girls really did make life difficult, fainting and falling all over the place. This was (one of many reasons) why he avoided them! They always needed help, and helping was really inconvenient. And then they didn't even admit when they needed help. Like right now Yuri was insisting that she was fine, when she was obviously anything but. And while he knew he was socially obligated to help pick her up and set her right he also knew that girls frequently objected when men fulfilled their socially obligated role as protector. So he could either skip out on his duties and be harangued for it, or do as he ought....and be harangued for it. The only other option was to avoid girls altogether, which he really desperately attempted, but this goal was inevitably and distressingly foiled at every turn. He shouldn't have stopped to talk to her, even if she did have the potential to appreciate decent music -- then he wouldn't be in this predicament!

"guys... I'm fine!" she growled when her brother ignored her pulling her up as she also felt Patch helped her up as well. Finally as she is on her feet, she started to look a bit mad now at her brother. "Damn it Yuri!" Ritz muttered as he then dusted dirt off, Yuri smacked his hand away from her as she dust herself off. "Stop it I can do it myself!" She snapped. "Sorry Patch, I guess I'll later!" she said rolling her eyes at her brother's direction. "Anyways I like your dog he is really sweet, and I hope to hear that mix cd soon k!" she said and started to walk towards the front door. Ritz arched a brow at his sister having a conversation and when she left Ritz looked back at Patch. "Wow...!" he said impressed. "You two actually had a conversation..., especially you!" he pointed out to Patch. "You actually had a conversation with my sister unbelieveable!" said Ritz, trying not to chuckle. He's seen the twins around, he's seen the difference between them. Patch was afraid of women, and it was funny, he never met any guy that was afraid of women.
"Sorry man, but my sister is never good with having conversation with anyone, hell she can't even see the expression on their faces, so she doesn't have conversations!" he explained. "Anyways thanks for helping out!" he said he then started to run after his sister before she falls over again. "What, I can find my way back to the door thank you very much!" she snapped again at Ritz. "Stop being a pain in the ass!" Ritz snapped back. "Later Patch!" he called out as he held out his arm to lead her back to the door, and yuri kept smacking him away. Her back turned to Patch.
