Sunar tossed Taegan a box of Little Debbies, grinning. "Okay, you're my model. So pretend that you don't notice I'm drawing you, okay? Otherwise you'll end up looking too unnatural." He ordered, tapping the end of his pencil against his teeth. He'd managed to convince her to join him on the beach, and he was bound and determined to draw her eating Little Debbies against an ocean backdrop, because that was a combination of three things he found excellent - Tae, the ocean, and junk food. So really, what could be sexier than Tae eating junk food on the beach?
"So are you going to the bowling party tomorrow?" He inquired as he began sketching her eyes. He hadn't decided whether he was going or not. If Tae said she was, though, that would make up his mind for him easily. "Oh, also, you heard about the charity event on Monday after school, right? A friend is putting it on, so you have to go with me. It'll be fun, and it raises money for the families who lost anyone in the shooting. Have you met Jade Edwards? He goes to your school. No, no, stop looking at me! Pretend I'm not here!" He laughed, "You're messing me up. You're not supposed to notice I'm drawing you. This is why I shouldn't tell people when I'm drawing them."

Today was one of those days when Tae wondered how she got herself into these situations. However, it was truly helping her keep to her resolution of making this year a year to remember. Doing new and different things, meeting new people. That didn't stop her though from wondering how this resolution got her here. Sitting on the beach eating Little Debbie snack cakes.
When Sunar had got in touch with her she had been happy to hear from him. She hadn't had a chance to get in touch with him since she had gotten home and she thought maybe with her absence he had forgotten about her and moved on. Then he had called her up and asked if he could do a sketch of her on the beach eating Little Debbie's. And she had agreed without a second thought. So, here she was.
"Sunar, don't tell people to pretend you're not there. It makes it hard to do that. It's like being somewhere high in the air and telling someone not to look. That makes you want to look even more." she laughed. Opening one of the snack cakes.
"Hey, you keep talking to me. If you want me to pretend you're not here and act all 'natural'. Then don't talk to me." she laughed more.

"That...that....that makes too much sense!" Sunar protested when Tae pointed out that conversing with her was perhaps not conducive to her forgetting that he was there. "Stop making sense! It's not right. Or natural. Definitely not natural at all, this sense making business. I'll be sure to put a stop to that!" He informed her as he continued to sketch rough geometric shapes that, eventually, he would clean up till they looked like Tae. Or, at least, they were supposed to eventually end up looking like Tae, so he really hoped that they would.
"Okay, okay, I'm not talking. Look! Not talking at all!!!!" He babbled, "Hey, throw one of those cakes this way, will you? They look too damn tasty, I think I need one. To keep up my strength, you know, because this drawing thing, it takes up a lot of energy. And so does the not talking. And it'll help me not talk if I'm eating! I can draw and eat at the same time, promise, no promises about keeping my sketch clean, but I'll just upload it to the comp and finish it there if I get too much chocolate on it, then I can email it to you."

Tae laughed and stared at Sunar for a moment. "What?" She shook her head. "Stop making sense? Oh, I did not realize that today was babble like an idiot day." That boy was odd but then that was one of the things that was so charming about him. "Besides, I was just trying to give you some constructive criticism." she pointed out.
Tae reached into the box of snack cakes and pulled out one and tossed it underhand over to Sunar. "Heads up." she warned as she tossed the sugary snack his way. "You can sketch and eat that I don't doubt. But can you eat, sketch, and manage to stop talking?" she raised the question along with her brow. "Cause I don't think there's anything in this world that stop that." she teased.
"Hey you better be careful and not smudge my portrait with chocolate." she warned him, but jokingly. "That would not be very professional and then I just might have to go and find me a new sketch artist." Not that she would do that. She did not know anyone else who sketched and she liked Sunar. She wouldn't replace him.

Sunar grabbed at the snack and just missed, falling to the sand beside his feet instead. "Damn!" He swore, dusting off the package. "Sun was in my eyes," He explained, which was a lie as he'd forced Tae to sit facing the sun so that he could see to draw. But it sounded like a good excuse for being unable to catch the Little Debbie. It was certainly better than I'm great at gymnastics but rubbish at playing catch!
"I'm not trying to get chocolate on it! Don't fire me! You're my best client!" He defended before ripping open his snack with his teeth. He tried to eat slowly while he drew, but this turned out to be more difficult than he'd first imagined, so he ended up shoving half in his mouth and placing the other half gingerly on the wrapping. He hoped it wouldn't get too sandy, but while there were clouds covering the sky there was very little wind.
Once he'd finished consuming his snack he began to transform his geometric patterns into rough lines, changing pencil colors from blue to black. "I think Jade's party is supposed to be sort of formal-ish. Or, nice clothes but not really formal. So you think we should just wear nice clothes to school? That way we can meet up after and go together. Or I can pick you up. Or, um, I can make Daja take me to pick you up." He corrected, as he didn't think he'd be able to ride his bike all the way over to the Edwards' mansion.

Tae held back a laugh and tried to hold back her amused grin as Sunar missed catching the snack cake terribly. She would let it slide this time with the lame excuse that the sun was in his eyes. Next, however, she might not be so kind. She might be forced to tease him mercilessly. That sounded a little harsh. But she was not a mean or malicious person. Any teasing she did was all in good natured harmless fun.
What? Whoa. Back this train right back on up. Tae turned her head and stared at Sunar for a moment. "Whoa now. Excuse me a minute. What's this about a party, formal dress? Should we dress in nice and go to school? I'm missing something here." she blinked and tried to think back on their conversation. Had she agreed to go this party and now she did not remember? Surely, she would remember like that. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall saying that I was going to said party."
She hoped she wasn't coming off mean. That was not her intention. She was just confused. She did not want to have mislead Sunar with anything she may have said. Giving him the wrong impression. This was not to say that she would not agree to go with him. That wasn't the case at all. She just wanted to clarify that she had not unknowingly agreed to anything.

“Yeah, but you didn’t say you weren’t going.” Sunar pointed out. She simply hadn’t answered the question at all, so he had decided to assume that meant ‘yes’, because ‘yes’ was the answer he wanted from her.
“I suppose you don’t have to go,” He allowed reluctantly, “But I was hoping you would, because Jade is a friend so I have to. Not that it won’t be fun, because it will, and he has loads of money to spend on it to make it more fun!” He explained, though she probably knew the Edwards twins; after all, they attended Silver with her.
“Pretty sure he said it was formal. And I did ask you to go, five minutes ago. You just didn’t answer, and we all know that not answering is the same as consent.” Now there was a problematic assumption if ever there was one! But it wasn’t something he really believed; he had wanted to see if she would go along with it anyway if he assumed that she would. “So will you go with me? It’s going to be really difficult to romantically ask you to go out with me at the party if you aren’t there. I can call you, I guess, but that wouldn’t be as much fun. And I just told you my whole plan, so now you have to go.”

Tae knew of the Edwards. It was hard to live in this town and attend Silver and not know the name Edwards and the family. Though she did not them all that well personally. She did know of them. But they were not really her kind of people. A sort of we come from different worlds kind of thing. The Edwards family came from money and they traveled in different social groups than Tae did. She was by no means from money and she didn't really travel in any particular social. As late she Had been keeping company with likes of people such as Sunar and that boy Grayson who she hadn't talked to in awhile.
"No, I didn't say I wasn't going, and I didn't say I was going." she stated. "The Edwards home? Seriously? Do I look like a girl who would be comfortable attending a party someplace so nice?" She was being honest with Sunar. She still wasn't saying she would not go. She at least wanted him to have some understanding of why she might be hesitant to go.
She shook her head slightly. "Fine, all right. I hate to see young boy grovel." she half laughed. "Ok, ok, I'll go with you to the party."

Sunar beamed when Tae agreed to attend the party with him. "Great! I knew you'd say yes!" He laughed, diving for the second half of his cake. He was glad that she hadn't rejected him, anyway, that was definitely a good sign. He knew she wasn't necessarily the most comfortable in formal situations (she'd been uncomfortable at first with his impromptu invitation to the masquerade, too).
"But this time you know ahead of time, so you can dress up if you want!" He pointed out.
"I am not groveling!" He denied, then changed his mind, "Maybe a little. You can't blame me, though, anyone would grovel for your presence! You're awesome." He asserted, licking chocolate off his fingers before returning to his drawing.
After a seemingly endless stream of chatter (mostly about how Jade was really cool and Tae shouldn't be intimidated by either him or his money, and how she wouldn't regret agreeing to attend because the party would be better than any ever) he finished his sketch and presented it to her with a failed attempt at a flourish.
"There! Now I just have to color it!" He told her proudly. "But I didn't bring my markers, so sorry, you can't keep it yet. Hmmm, I think that means you have to come home with me so I can get the colors just right."

You only lived once. Right? She could not keep going through life avoiding people and places that were out of her comfort zone. That made her uncomfortable. How would she ever overcome that feeling unease? She probably wouldn't. How bad could it be to go with someone like Sunar. She was pretty at ease around him. So, she would go and she would even try to find something appropriate to wear for the occasion. Something formal, but not too stuffy. She had to keep something of herself. "All right, I will go with you. I will even try to dressy formally. But I am not wearing it to school. I draw the line there."
She listened to Sunar go on and on about how she did not need to worry about Jade and how she should not feel uncomfortable about his status in life. Easy for him to say. He already knew the person. Okay, enough with those thoughts. If she kept letting herself think that way she would talk herself right out of going.
Finally, after what seemed like ages he had the sketch finished. Well, as finished as it was going to get at the moment. She leaned over and took a look at it. She had to admit that it was good. Better than good really. "Wow, Sunar, that's amazing." She looked up at him smiling, her eyes danced a little with her smile. "But you don't have your makers to color it? I see...hmm...you planned this. Didn't you?" she teased.
