Brittany rode off the curb on her skateboard. Directly after school she'd stopped over at the Baxter's house to check on Zac who was steadily improving. This pleased Brittany. It not only meant that the band would be back together before she knew it, but it also meant that she'd be getting her friends back soon enough. She'd been really bummed out not seeing as much of them as usual.
But now she had awhile before she had to head home for dinner...a few hours to do...well, whatever she pleased. She hadn't made any plans with Evan or any of her friends so she figured she'd just skate around and see what kind of shenanigans she could get herself into.
She stopped by her house and grabbed Jimmy, figuring she'd take him out for a bit. She hadn't been spending as much time with her dog lately anyway. She let him pull her on her board, towards the park for lack of anywhere else to go. When she reached the park she let Jimmy go, letting him run a bit, only Jimmy being the rather friendly dog he was ran straight towards the first person he saw and tried to pummel them.
"JIMMY!" Brit screamed, jumping off her skateboard and running towards the person to help.

He had to get out of that house.
That stifling house where the step monster was poisoning his own liver with booze. Judd hated him with a passion. He would do anything to get the guy out, no matter what.
The park seemed like the best place to go, a person could just become a faceless person in the crowd. Driving was out though as was the skate board and there was not a chance of walking there with crutches. Great public transportation it was.
The bus ride was uneventful, other than some woman yelling in Spanish on her cell phone about something. It was hard to tell if she was angry or sad about the issue.
He exited at the park's main entrance and hobbled inside. The laughter of kids could be heard all over, like a scene from a horror movie. The sound soon started to get in Judd's brain. It was childhood all over again.
He dropped his crutches and cupped his hands over his ears. "NO!!! Get out!! STOP IT!!!" He was starting to panic. He saw something move out of the corner of his eye. A huge dog bounding towards him!
The two connected. Judd screamed in pain and panic. "Get him off me!!!" Almost in tears.

As Brittany ran towards the scene she saw the guy that Jimmy had knocked over had crutches. Great...she thought sarcastically. In the back of her mind she knew that she probably should have trained her dog a little better when he was a puppy but she loved his playfulness...even if others didn't appreciate it quite as much.
As she got closer the realized the guy was freaking out. "Down Jimmy Down!" she yelled as she reached the scene, grabbing the boxer by the collar and attempting to pull the dog off. "It's okay!" she yelled at the guy--she wasn't yelling in a mean way, it was more a panicky way. "He won't bite! He's friendly!" She struggled with Jimmy a moment longer as her dog tried to lick the guys face, finally getting him with one huge tug that caused herself to fall over. She laughed when she did though and next thing she knew, Jimmy was in her lap, licking her face. Temporarily distracted, she gave her dog a hug and scratched him on the head a bit as she looked over to make sure Jimmy's victim was okay.
"Sorry about that," she said, peering around her dog. It was only then she recognized who the boy was. He went to her school and while she didn't really know him personally, she knew his reputation quite well. However, despite the fact that his reputation told her she should be afraid of him, he was lying on the ground...crying no less...which made him much less intimidating. And he had crutches...so she figured she'd play nice and hope he didn't bite her head off. "Jimmy is really too friendly for his own good," she said, petting her dog's head once more, "like I said, he really wouldn't hurt a fly...sorry he knocked you over though...do you um....need help?" she asked, still sitting on the ground with the large boxer in her lap.

Judd could hear the female voice saying something but it was hard to make out through the din. His main concern was that this dog get taken off of him, he was heavy not to mention drooly.
When the beast was finally off of him, Judd sat up shakily. Tears stinging his eyes and staining his face. Something he hadn't done since he was a little kid. He wiped his dripping nose on his sleeve, which was covered in dog drool.
He looked over and saw the dog on top of her and she was laughing. She didn't seem to be doing the accusing laugh. He let her have her fun.
Judd looked at her, big big brown eyes and with an expression that someone might give when they were caught doing something they shouldn't. He shook his head.
"No, no I'm fine." he mumbled. She seemed familiar to him, he wasn't too sure but then who could tell after the traumatizing experience. "Just...just keep it away from me." He pointed at the boxer who seemed to be doing the "who me" routine.
He went to grab his crutches. "Thanks though." He went to stand when a pain shot through his hip. He fell back down and looked at his jeans which were dampened from his stitches being broken.

"Sorry," Brit said making a face when he pointed at her dog. Had it really been that bad? Jimmy didn't bite...he just really liked to give doggy kisses. She put her arm around him defensively. "Fine...I'll keep him off you," she said. She knew that not everyone liked dogs but she really didn't understand why. Especially Jimmy because as far as she was concerned, Jimmy was her best friend in the entire world.
She watched as he reached for the crutches, feeling sort of bad. After all, he was on crutches and then to be knocked over...that probably had hurt... But she kept quiet, not wanting to offend him or anything. Her eyes widened as she watched him fall back down...cringing. "Oh Jimmy what did you do?!" she said giving her dog a look. Whatever it was, Brittany and the sinking feeling that she was in trouble.
"What...happened? What's wrong?" she asked, crawling over to him on her knees. Jimmy tried to investigate too but she pushed him out of the way. She made another face when she saw the blood seeping through the denim. Man...she was in trouble for sure now....
"Do you need to me to call help or something?" she asked, sort of freezing up...not sure what to do. Flashbacks from the shooting came back to her...of helping Aly and how she hadn't known what to do then either.

Fear of the dog stemmed from a childhood trauma. The girl was apologetic about the whole incident, she couldn't be all that bad. If the dog had been a tiny puppy, it might have been funnier in Judd's situation.
He grabbed his side and looked at his hand, covered in warm red liquid. "No, it wasn't him." He winced in pain. "It where I was shot the other day, I...I think the stitches came out!" He tried to speak through heavy sobs. His nose started to run slightly and he used the only thing he could think of, his sleeve to wipe it.
"Would you call for help please?" A look of frozen terror was on his face. The last thing he wanted now was to be left along, otherwise it was going to be his childhood all over again, kids "beating" him and just leaving him behind like nothing. He felt embarrassed in asking this of the girl since she was a stranger. "Would...would you mind staying at least till help gets here?" he whimpered. The big tough talker now reduced to tears, he only hoped no one would hear of this tomorrow at school.

"Oh...um...sorry..." Brittany said, kind of at a loss for any other words. She was glad that Jimmy hadn't done it but still...the stitches might not have reopened if he hadn't been knocked down. She was silently panicking because she didn't have a car so she wouldn't be able to take him to the hospital. Should she call 911 or call someone with a car?
"Yeah...okay...call for help, right," she said nodding. She pulled her cell phone out of her pocket. Deciding it was easier to eliminate the middle man, she called 911, explaining the situation as calmly as possible. "Yeah...he fell and his stitches opened up...no can't walk...no don't have transportation...yeah...that's the right park..." She took a deep breath as she hung up her phone. "Yeah an ambulance is on the way...they'll take you to the hospital...I skateboarded here so...yeah...I can't really take you..." she said, glancing across the park at her skateboard which was sitting there all by it's lonesome in the spot she'd abandoned it to run after her dog.
"Yeah...yeah I can stay," Brit said nodding. "Let me just tie up Jimmy so he doesn't bother you," she said, getting up. She walked her dog over to the nearest bench and tied him there using his leash before returning to Judd and sitting down beside him. She'd never really talked to the guy before and she wasn't sure what to say. "So...you're um...Judd...right?" she figured was a good start. She knew his reputation, but he didn't seem so scary right now...

The sobs had subsided but the pain from the playful attack was still there. The emotional scars went deeper though.
She actually did make the call. Something Judd had never known before, people really did care when someone was hurt. His eyes hurt from the crying that he had done, over a dog who thought they were just being friendly. He blinked a couple of times to keep his eyes moist. "You skateboard?" He questioned with some low mild interest, anything to get his mind off what was going on. "I didn't know any girls who did that." He wanted to get a better look at her but it hurt too much to move.
She was already on his good list, she saved him, called for help and now was willing to stay with him. Maybe she'd want to be friends, as long as the dog wasn't around anyway.
He still felt shakey but there wasn't the feeling of being alone, like he knew as a child. "Thanks for staying." He replied until she asked his name. "Yeah thats me, that weird kid in class all the time." There went his self esteem talking again.
