Beep...beeep...beeep...The steady beeping of the moniter attached to her pulse was one of the only sounds in the small hospital room. Skye had woken a few times during the night, when the nurses came in to check her vitals, and earlier when one had administered more pain medication. Brian had one a number on the young girl, broken wrist, 2 broken ribs, a torn muscle in her knee where he had kicked her with steel toed boots, and a nasty concussion. The police had put out a search on the adult, but he was nowhere to be found. both Brandon and Tyler had been inside the sterile room all night, neither leaving her alone. Morning broke, Tyler leaving to get some coffee and head to work, leaving Brandon with their sister.
Nate had been there. He called 911. He saw Skye all bloody and broken. Nate did not like the scene.z He was scared and it sucked. Nate waited to visit until the next day. He was on his way to school and quickly took a detour. Nate walked slowly to the room. He eyed Skye and the machines. "Hey you."
Brandon, who had been sitting next to Skye, holding her non casted hand, looked up at the boy that walked in, thinking he looked a little familiar, but looked at Skye. "he's ok..go..find coffee food.." She said, watching her brother get up, leave a kiss on her forehead and walked out. "Hey.." She said to Nate.
Nate took the seat that the guy had occupied took her hand and rubbed the back of it with his thumb. "How you feeling?"
"Like I was hit by a freight train, you?" She replied, looking over at him.
"Me....I am fine, its you I am worried about."
"You were at the house last night...you found me." she stated quietly. "Why were you there?"
"I came to talk to you and I found the door open. i called 911."
Her fingers squeezed his weakly. "Thanks.." She said softly as she tried to sit up slightly.
Nate nodded, "I told Ana about it...hopefully she will tell Nero..I know he means a lot to you." Nate told her softly.
"he's a good friend." Skye said reaching for a bottle of orange juice that her brother had left. "Thank you..for trying to get a message to him.."
Nate understood that, "I know. I understand. its why i told him. Or rather told Ana to tell him."
She settled back against her pillows with a painful wince, hissing as her ribs burned. "They can't find him you know...Brian.." She said after swallowing a bit of juice.
Nate sat back and looked at her. "Good thing too. If they did I would kill him and I would be going to jail."
"No." She told him softly. "What did you want to talk about?" She asked, changing subjects slightly.
Nate eyed her a moment, "Not something you should worry about right now. You need to focus on getting better."
"And if you don't tell me, Ill worry myself into a fit over it...so tell me." She asked.
Nate laughed, "Yeah I figured." He smirked. "Well i was coming to talk...about what happened earlier in the day."
She looked away. "Your phone...you never got it...I feel like an ass."
"Don't. I should have been nicer or something. I should have not yelled and crap."
"No...I blew up..and I shouldnt have..my fault." she said softly.
"No...it was not your fault. It was just a miscomminucation on both ends. Do not blame yourself."
"I should have just asked.." She whimpered, the pain meds making her a little more emotional then normal, as if it were possible.
"Yeah but I did not really give you a chance." Nate told her. He felt bad she seemed in pain.
"Im so scared Nate...I don't know whats gonna happen to me." She said softly.
"My brothers can't take me home, safety issue..I dont wanna go to foster care.."
Nate eyed her, "Shhhh, just calm down okay." Nate told her. "It will all be okay. It will be fine. I am sure you will be placed with a good family."
She sucked back a shuddery breath, wiping tears off her cheeks. "Damnit...pain meds..." She muttered.
Nate smiled, "Please. Its okay. Look if you need a place to stay, then maybe I can talk to the old lady I am staying with."
"No..she has enough with Jay, Trixie and you." she said, shaking her head.
Nate laughed, "With Jay more like it. Trix and I are angels." He laughed some more.
She snorted painfully. "Please..not an angel..not even close...still doesn't keep me from wanting to be with you..which makes me even more screwed up."
Nate shrugged, "According to her I am." He winked. "You are not screwed up. I am."
"The needs to be told the truth." Skye said, laying back against the pillows under her head.
Nate nodded, "I know , but the truth is not easy to say."
She looked over at him. "And what is the truth Nate?" She asked.
Nate sighed and ran a hand over his face and then his head, "The...truth is.....I like you...I do."
"I know you do..you've said so..but you are incapable of settling down to one person." She answered.
"Please do not answer for me. Just give me a chance." Nate said. He sighed, "Look. I like you and it is hard for me to settle down. I want to try."
She looked at him, turning a little too sharply, whimpering in pain as she did. "try?"
Nate nodded, "Look I wont lie. I am a flirt and all that crap, but I can be faithful. I can try."
"Try to be faithful...Nate." she started, biting her lower lip and wincing. "If you ever do more then flirt...you may not get another chance with me."
Nate looked at her, "I can do it...have some trust and faith... please...I know my boundaries."
"and what are those boundaries so that we both know where that line stands?" she asked
Nate looked at her. "I means its all flirting. Nothing more. I will not cheat..."
"And what about what I saw yesterday at lunch...was that flirting?" she asked
You mean with the guy?" Nate laughed, "Dude that was just a joke we were playing on Jay. That guy is Trixie's girlfriend."
"I mean boyfriend."
"OK.." she said, looking at him.
"Trust me...it was classic. DJ and I so pissed Jay off. But I swear he is Trix's guy and we both know I cannot steal her man."
"So...does that make you..mine?" she asked.
Nate nodded, "You finally got me." He smiled.
"Wait...whose been chasing who since I moved to Salem?" She reminded him.
Nate laughed, "Hey...come on now.....I am just saying." He winked.
Skye gave him a weak smile, though the weakness was only because of the pain and the meds.
Nate leaned in softly and kissed her. "Get better soon okay."
