Character Name: Ryo Ames
Nickname: Go-go, Hell-cat Ames
Age: 17
Birthday: July 12th
Place of birth: Kailua, Hawai'i
School: Gould
Grade: Junior
Appearance: Most would think she’s the devil’s child just by her appearance with bright red-lipstick and cat-like eyeliner. Though skinnier now than she was before Ryo looks like your typical pin-up gal with the big sculpted dark brown hair and big pumps. Sadly, most of her pictures taken by her parents have her looking like a shy, demure, little girl and that would be her “weekend” look when she doesn’t feel like dressing up or putting on any making. Ryo is quite short, standing with no heels, at 5 feet and rather petite. Both Ames hildren inherited their mother's brown eyes but only Dacian got the blue eyes. When she was younger she was chubby but lost a lot of her baby fat when she turned 14. Dresses and vintage swimming suits are the only way she shows a bit of her naughty side.
Personality: Despite what she looks like on the outside Ryo is rather a quiet and shy kind of gal. Break the ice with her and she’ll become more open and friendlier than you’d expect her to be. Hugs and kisses are something she’d give freely if you’re friends and if you needed a shower to cry on expect to offer. Though she’s rather affectionate with her friends don’t expect her to show the same attitude towards a stranger. Like most young women, Ryo has a complex about her body and gets rather nervous when having to show a bit of skin.
Growing up with a beautiful model like mother did nothing for her self-esteem. Even though she appears quite confident at times Ryo feels weak compared to others. All in five words to describe Ryo would be: Shy. Sweet. Friendly. Weak. Dreamer.
Town Area: Compton
Job: Currently seeking employment
Transportation: Takes the bus or catches ride with someone
Family Background and History: Father-Edmund Ames, age 41 and works as a security gate guard for PRN La Mirada
Mother- Okelani Ames, age 38 and works as a elementary school librarian
Brother- Dacian Ames, age 14 high school freshman
Ryo grew up in a happy yet low-income home with her younger brother, Dacian, and both her parents. Though food was an issues at times it was always on the table even if the children didn’t want to eat fish and rice almost everyday. Home-life wasn’t to bad most of the time but it was rather lonely for the two siblings growing up. While his children were growing up, Edmund Ames would work two jobs or more just to support his young family. It was during this time that Ryo was taught how to sew by her mother’s mother, while on vacation from Hawaii, and made her first 50’s inspired dress. It was an exact replica of her grandmother’s dress when she was a young woman. Even now that she’s a lot older, Ryo respects her parents decisions but now that they’re able to be home more often she’s nowhere to be found. Either at the local diners or a show she’s found a way to channel her loneliness.
Dacian and Ryo’s relationship borderlines on siblings and best friends at time. They both share a love of tattoos and rockabilly music. Most of his clothing has been made by his older sister and he proudly shows off her designs.

Writing Sample: There had been a little time for a short break between classes and Ryo was glad for that; plus it gave her time to recollect the information the teachers had disposed upon their minds. Yeah, it was the first day of class but being a double major wasn’t easy and for the rest of the year she didn’t know how it would go. Worst situation would be to drop one of her majors and she’d already known which one that would be without a second thought. There was one issue that had been brought to the front and it was the random rainstorm they just had. Wasn’t California suppose to be the sunshine state?
“Its just like back home…”
It rained a lot on her grandfather’s plantation which always brought about the best taro crops for their locale. People from the leeward side would make the trip just for the root to make poi, a delicacy she missed, for their weekly family gatherings over roasted pork. Ryo sighed, contently, the weather was nice enough that she didn’t need to don a jacket over her garden party dress which in itself was a relieve.
The dress was one of the newest designs out of a 1950’s catalogue of the fashion of the era. Ryo had successfully replicated the design and it had become a hot seller for The Cat’s Meow, which reminded her that she needed to check to make sure when she worked. Walking out into the open without the cover of the buildings felt refreshing and the air was nice and cool though not chilly at all.
Ryo wasn’t alone when she’d begun to walk towards the pond, a place she’d found the day before, a boy was already there with his back to her and on a lone bench. There weren’t that many benches that had dried yet. There was one across the way but it looked wet from where she stood.
“Oh, thank you,” He had moved his stuff and offered a smile before turning away and continued to gaze at the pond. Ryo returned the smile before sitting down herself, pulling her book bag onto her lap, as she followed him. “So beautiful,” she spoke softly, as she held her head up with her right palm, the beauty laid within the pond itself. A beacon of life.
