In Memory of (Tag Jere, Open Tag to anyone else)

[Memorial]

Jade had been released for the morning and was due back after lunch to a more private hospital, his mother and father had been hesitant to allow him to attend the memorial, and in truth his arm was very clearly heavily strapped up. He walked a lot slower then he usually did, as if every step he took was unsteady, and was a little more alert than he usually was.

Alex made sure he made it to the memorial in one piece, he saw that a lot of the students here were clearly still trying to get past the pain of the day before, a few of the injured people were here, the families of the dead were there as well by the looks of things... Jade crossed himself as he took his seat next to Alex, he didn't look to great, but then he didn't feel to great. The last thing he should have been doing was getting out of the hospital bed.

"You should not be out of the hospital." Alex said to him Jade looked at his twin and smiled.

"I'm fine Alex." Jade said to him. "Anyway, I would rather be here then in a hospital bed." Jade said to him as he looked around at the people near them. "Thanks for getting the car back to the house, before mom and dad ripped me a new one." Jade added Alex grinned.

Jeremy stood in front of his mirror. He didn't want to go to the memorial service but something was making him go. Maybe it was the thought that it could have been Julia or Jade as one of the victims.

He put on a black silk shirt and black jeans. He picked out a blue and sliver striped tie and started to tie it. There was a soft knock on his door.

"Yeah its open." He replied. James entered.

"Just making sure your doing alright." James said sitting the bed. "It was a rough day yesterday. You want to talk about anything?"

Jeremy shook his head, he was growing frustrated trying to tie the tie. He threw it on the floor finally and yelled out, "Why did this have to happen?"

James wrapped his arms around Jeremy. "Shhh I know, its hard, everything that happened, but you and your sister are alive, you have a wonderful guy who cares about you." He let Jeremy let everything out. "Here let me help you." He picked up the tie and tied it for him. "I'll even drive you if you want."

Jeremy nodded and headed out to the car.

The auditorium was packed with people. He looked around for a familiar face. He found Jade and Alex sitting together. Made the day more bearable. "Hey Jade. You feeling better?" He sat down next to him and put his arm around him.

Jade smiled at him, "Hey Jeremy, Alex who would have known my better half dresses up so well." Jade said with a cheeky grin, he was still pale from the day before but he had a certain cheriness to him that suggested he was a little back to the way he had been before the shooting. "I bet he had help from his sister though." Jade said playfully.

"To answer your question I'm doing better than I was, and like I suspected my parents moved me to a local private hospital... technically that is where I am supposed to be right now." Jade said to him. "We made a run for it with the help of a certain Aussie who is floating about here somewhere." Jade said with a grin. "I suspect my parents will likely go postal when they realise I checked myself out of the hospital to come here, but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else today." Jade pointed out with a wicked smile.

Alex looked at the other boy, "You do know that your twin brother is going to be the one who gets blamed for this right, they would never blame the injured one of the two of us." Alex said with a smile. "But how am I going to be able to turn him down when he gives me my own eyes in full on puppy dog eyes mode." Alex said causing Jade to giggle.

"You've given me that look every time you want to put on a party at the house while our parents are away on business, it works both ways." Jade told him.

Although he didn't show it, the words irritated Jeremy. He knew how to dress and look good at the same time. He dismissed it as Jade being affect by pain killers still.

"Which hospital? I'm not letting you out of my sight till you are home safe and sound." It was understandable why they were moving him but at the same time it was puzzling. "And cross my heart, if your parents ask me about what happened, I'll plead the fifth!" A tiny smile started to appear on Jeremy's face.

"Before you go anywhere, I thought we had a date for ice cream." Jeremy nudged Jade playfully. "After all you gave me a scolding for leaving mine behind when I came to see you yesterday!"

He listened to the two banter back and forth, like all siblings do. "You two need to learn to become immune to the puppy eyes. I learned how to say no to it at a very early age." He remembered how Julia used to do the same thing to him when they were kids, usually it was for something like him doing some ghastly chore for her or to fasten the clothes onto one of her dolls.

Jade ran of the name of the hospital (Insert your own here.) without really thinking about it, "Ice cream, if you could stick a ton of ice cream to slap on my shoulder, so maybe it doesn't feel like it was on fire I would be forever grateful." Jade said to him. "They won't ask you, they will know from the people who were watching us leave, who was behind it all." Jade said to him with a grin. "My fathers protectiveness has become incredibly annoying recently." he added.

"The only person in our family who can do puppy dog eyes and get away with it is SJ, our father is not immune to that look and neither is our mother. We've been able to pull the old switch a wooney since we were in middle school." Jade said to him. "Our parents have a hard time telling us apart, and its no good pointing out that I'm gay." Jade said to him. "I mean sure I have better fashion sense that Alex, and his wardrobe was pretty much hand picked by our sister and myself, but the fact of the matter is I actually go both ways, so the old switch still works." Jade said to him with a grin.

"But no we have never switched while I have been with you, or while Alex has been dating Sarah." Jade said to him. "I could kill for some mint choc chip ice cream right about now." Jade said off handedly.

"The last thing I need or want right now is to be on your father's bad side." Did Jade's father have a good side? It was hard to tell sometimes. Hearing him yell all he could think about was some overly animated Flintstone character yelling at Fred about something.

"See you started it too early in life, you should have waited till now to do the switcheroo on the folks." Though the idea of Jade playing both sides didn't appeal to Jeremy, even if Jeremy didn't really have the rights to claim Jade as his own.

Relief came in a tidal wave form, the idea of Jade playing behind his back made Jeremy almost burst out laughing at an inappropriate time.

"Hey if you do what your told and get yourself into the hospital when the service is over, I'll bring you all the mint chocolate chip ice cream you can eat." A bribe was a bribe and it always worked when he was a kid. "Now thats only if your a good boy, if your bad that'll be a whole other story!" He grinned. It was fun to tease Jade like that, once he was better then there would be fun to be had.

Jade grinned, "So now I get bribed to go back to the hospital, I'm going to be there for another day with a little luck, they want to do some more x-rays to make sure I have no more damage they missed, that and I'm in some amount of pain." Jade said to him. "Though I'm guessing that my parents would prefer that I be looked up in a soft room for the duration of the rest of my school life." Jade said grinning widely.

"I'm kidding, I'm in pain because I had surgery on my shoulder, and it will be at least October before I am competing in school sports again, we have four months left of this year and I will need to be working on my fitness when I come back here." Jade said to him.

"Your promise of ice cream is what is getting me back to the hospital, you know that right, though I am not going there until after lunch, I need food that isn't so hard I could break down a wall with it." Jade said to him with a grin. "I don't care what it is as long as it edible." Jade added with a wide grin. "Seriously hospital food and lack there of in the last few hours has started to addled by brains." Jade told him.

"If you left it to your folks, you'd be locked in a tower somewhere with no human contact. I know for a fact, I really don't want to climb your hair just to be close to you." It wouldn't cure anything but at least the humor was still there.

Jere didn't like seeing the guy he cared about in pain but the damage was done. "When the time comes, I'll join you in a workout." Make something that could be tedious into something fun, plus it helped that Jade was easy on the eyes. "When you come back in the fall, you'll be bigger, stronger, faster."

"Well," Jeremy started in. "You could always come on over to my place. I know we have edible food. Ham, mashed potatoes, scalloped corn left over from dinner last night and yes ice cream for dessert. I promise the folks won't bother us, well my dad might and ask all sorts of questions."

He made the offer. "Everything was made from scratch and it'll save you on a food bill. Use what you save to throw yourself a welcoming home party." Jere realized too late not to say that, it might be the thing Jade would do!

Alex looked at Jeremy, "You do know that Jade can't drive at the moment, so you would be responsible for getting him back to the hospital afterwards." Alex said to him as he wasn't entirely sure barging into someone else's house was a great idea.

"I can get a taxi if it comes to that Alex." Jade said to his twin. "As long as I am not left staring at four walls, my laptop only buys me so much in the way of sanity you know." Jade said to him. "Especially since I have to do everything one handed at the moment... the only good thing about being shot was that it could have been my other arm, then I wouldn't be in such a good mood." Jade said to them with a grin as he tried to keep his attention on the front of the room.

It wasn't clear to anyone except for maybe Alex that his brother was actually in pain, the painkillers were clearly wearing of and he wasn't about to admit that he wanted more, as that would have meant being carted of back to the hospital, and he was sick of that smell... he would suffer it for the time being and to hell with the consequences later on.
