For a school day, Evan actually had a very productive morning. Not in class, he didn’t pay any attention to the teachers, of course. He spent all his time doing something useful instead, thinking about what awful movies he and Brittany could watch that night. He still hadn’t settled on anything concrete, there were just too many good, or in this case, bad, options. And he only had movies of the highest quality after all (everything dubious or that could be considered embarrassing was well hidden), so he figured he might have to drop by a video store on his way home. He also had to pick up some food for that night, once he finally decided as well what he was going to cook. Being Valentine’s Day and all, he figured it would have to be something good.
Not for one moment from when Brittany had given them to him, had Evan lost sight of his balloon and flowers, not at all phased by the teachers, or anyone else, getting annoyed with the bobbing balloon. He thought it was mad himself. The moment it reached lunch, he grabbed his favourite pizza substitute from the cafeteria, before heading outside to find Patch. They didn’t eat as often in there anymore, not since the Jessica ‘incident’. Not that they were worried about another attack, there was no chance of that now the girl was back at Silver, they hoped, the place just held too many bad memories. It wasn’t long before he tracked down his friend. “I know what you’re thinking. You’re looking at my balloon and flowers, I know it. It’s okay to be jealous, they are cool. See, all benefits of having a girlfriend.”

Patch was leaning against the wall, hands in hoody pockets, very unsurprisingly asborbed in his music -- currently on Shpongle, a band that not only had mad club sounds but whose name was just incredibly fun to say -- when Evan approached.
"Yo," He greeted the other boy, pushing off the wall with his foot, "The balloon is pretty ace," He admitted, "But not so sure it's worth having to hold hands with a girl for." He made a face at the very thought of touching a girl. Eww. "Wouldn't even be guaranteed she'd be cool enough to get me balloons, Holly never got any balloons for Nick." He pointed out. There were few outcomes that would justify pretending to like a girl, and balloons, cool as they were, happened not to be one of them. Satisfying his parents that he was not gay, that was one, but so far no accusations of the sort had been levelled at him. Sure, his dad wondered when he was going to bring home a girl, but they still seemed to believe it was just a matter of time. They were wrong, of course, but they would have been just as wrong if they had asked about boys. Maybe they were right, maybe one day he would find himself smitten but for the moment the idea was repellent.
"Speaking of, guess who shoved a metric ton of cards into my bag this morning," He complained, waving one of the unwanted cards at Evan's face, "What'm I gonna do with all these?! I was thinking, sign them with other people's names and shove them into random people's lockers, cause, really, why he thinks I want a bunch of blank Valentine's cards..." He sighed. His twin perplexed him sometimes.

Evan wasn’t at all surprised when Patch didn’t include the flowers with the balloon when he said it was ace. Knowing his friend, Valentine’s Day was his most hated day of the year, so flowers, whether giving or receiving them, wouldn’t interest him by far. He still thought they were pretty cool though, slanting another glance at the bunch in his hand as Patch spoke. Maybe he should get some more for Brittany to give to her that night, he really didn’t know what he was meant to do.
He couldn’t help but laugh at Patch’s reaction on the notion of having to hold hands with a member of the fairer sex. “You kidding? Touching a girl, and other stuff, is all reward in itself.” he teased, unable to himself, knowing it would gross Patch out more. “But that’s true though, can’t be guaranteed of getting balloons. Though, from what you told me, Holly isn’t cool like Brit, no wonder Nick didn’t get any.”
Patch obviously saw the cards as bad, as very bad, but Evan thought they were brilliant, taking the one his friend held out. “That’s exactly what we’re going to do with them!” he laughed brightly, digging through his bag for a pen. “He probably thought he was being funny giving them to you, so, we can be funny right back.” Smirking lightly, he spun Patch around, writing on the card with the neatest writing he could manage. “To my dearest...uh...Melodee..” he spoke as he wrote, “I hide it well, but I...I...I think you are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen, and I have...what’s the word...oh yeah, admired you from afar for as long as I can remember. Please, be my Valentine. Hopefully yours, Nick Kimball.” Pulling away, he admired his handiwork before showin git to Patch. “We’ll write a couple more for him, maybe to Delilah, Selby? Then we can do a heap of random ones. Holly will be pissed.” he chuckled. “Nick should have thought before he gave you them.”

Patch had to agree, Holly was far from cool. She was a cheerleader, though, so it only stood to reason that she would be even less desirable than normal girls. He was pretty sure that cheerleaders did not dole out cool gifts to their boyfriends, rather they expected to be catered to at every moment of the day. He couldn't understand why his brother doted on her, it was simply unfathomable! But apparently he really liked her, she was something of a status symbol that impressed the other preps. Preps were just plain bizarre sometimes. He shuddered again, "You can have the touching, all of it."
Evan's idea of signing them all for Nick seemed even better than his idea to sign them for random people. The other boy may have been a grade lower, but he thought his friend was a genius. "Sounds great." He agreed happily. He hoped that at least one of the girls approached his brother about the cards, because his twin's reaction would be priceless. And if Holly was annoyed, that would be even better. It was clear she disapproved of him, so he felt obligated to do everything in his power to make sure this was justified. "Selby, though, really? The crazy Russian chick? Yeah, that's...perfect, actually." He was sure that if someone would pay attention to the cards, it would be Selby. "Maybe you should try Coco, too, talk about what a big star she is and everything," He suggested. She had actually started working with Evan, though, much to the shock of Patch Kimball. He had been so certain she would be too stuck up to accept the job. But she hadn't. So he had to give her credit there. As long as she didn't cry, though, he wouldn't feel bad about playing tricks on her. If there was one thing he couldn't abide, it was female tears; if a girl cried, then he would actually feel guilty.
"Who else, then? Maybe we should do one to Tyler from someone, like, ummm," He pondered, "Daja or someone." It was no secret that Daja was happily engaged, but Tyler's ego was big enough he probably would believe that she preferred him to her fiance. "What about ?Brit's sister, maybe have her send one to, I dunno, Judd or something." He was trying to think of the most hilariously awful pairings ever.

Reaching in Patch’s bag, having no apparent qualms about going through his friend’s stuff, Evan grabbed out the rest of the cards, before sitting on the floor to start writing them all up. Nick’s card to Selby came first, containing a similar message as to what he wrote in Melodee’s card, simply because Evan wasn’t the romantic, write love messages and stuff type, and he found he quickly ran out of ideas on what to put. He did throw in a comment about Nick finding Selby’s accent sexy, before proudly showing off the card to Patch. Really, Nick should have thought about it more before giving the cards to his brother.
Coco had already popped up in Evan’s mind, his first idea actually when he was trying to pick out girls for Nick’s cards, but he discarded the idea quickly. He should have expected Patch to suggest her, quickly trying to come up with an excuse why it wouldn’t be good. “Coco? Nah, don’t think it’ll work with her. She’s probably expecting to get a heap of them anyway, and wouldn’t bother looking too much at it. She probably wouldn’t know who Nick is anyway to confront him.” he laughed. Truth was, he kind of, in a small way, felt sorry for the girl, and decided to lay off the tricks on her, for a bit, anyway. She still annoyed him, especially as she still expected everyone to worship her and do everything for her, which got to be annoyed when they were rostered on the same shift. But, and this was something he wouldn’t openly admit, especially to Patch, when you got past all that, she was actually a decent chick, and though he wouldn’t go so far to call them friends, he was starting to warm to her, just a little bit. Had to anyway, they worked together a lot, and it just made it easier. Evan was always ‘volunteered’ on duties with her, no one else seemed to want it.
“Judd? Oh, that is the best idea ever!” Bursting out laughing, Evan quickly wrote out a message to Judd from Alyson, impressed with Patch’s thinking. “Wait till I tell Brit this, she’ll think you’re a genius too. What should I put? Oh, something about thinking he’s hiding a sweeter side. That’ll be classic.” Sniggering, he signed it before reaching for some more. “Oh, I know. We’ll do one from Daja to Tyler and one from him to Alyson. That’ll make it a bit of a circle. We won’t do one from Judd though, I don’t think anyone would buy that.” Grinning, he got to work, filling out the rest of the cards for their brilliant plan. “I can dash around the lockers just before end of lunch, hand this out. Nick is going to be pissed! It’s fun having your brother to prank.”

Patch failed to stifle a burst of laughter as he read through the card Evan was tossing his way. And here he had resigned himself to a Valentine's Day spent glaring at all the happy couples, but no, this was sheer genius! This was going to be the best Valentine's Day ever! He couldn't help but find tricks on his twin to be funny, at least if he and Evan were behind them. If anyone else had attempted to mess with Nick then he would have been extremely ticked off, might come to blows if someone gave his brother too hard a time. But when Nick presented him with such a perfect opportunity it was impossible to resist the impulse to tweak his brother just a little.
If he didn't know any better, he would think that Evan was starting to actually like Coco. He never wanted to pull any pranks on her anymore, stuck up for her, even! The cause had to be their current status as coworkers, nothing else could have convinced his friend that it wasn't fun to prank one of the Barbies. And really, Coco was insufferable as far as the Barbies went.
He was glad that Evan approved of the Judd idea, was glad to know that Brittany would probably approve -- not that he hadn't guessed that for himself. But really it made life easier when your friends' girls actually liked you. It also helped that Brittany was cool and didn't try to stop him and Evan from their stupid stunts, most girls disapproved of cool things and would not have appreciated pranks being pulled on their step-sisters, even if they did hate them. At least, that was how Patch saw the female half of the species.
He thought the cards were just perfect. Sure, Nick's handwriting was maybe a little neater, and his spelling a good deal better than Evan's -- not that Patch could tell the difference, spelling was not his strong point -- but he didn't think anyone would be able to tell the difference. "This is a better use for these than that Jessica chick." He grinned. "Nick seemed to think I should send her flowers or something for today." Nick was still under the incredibly mistaken impression that his attempts to gain her forgiveness had to do with a denied crush, but he couldn't exactly tell his brother the truth.

“Wait, Jessica? Nick wanted you to send flowers to Jessica? Is he trying to get you killed or something?” Evan wondered aloud, thinking that seemed like too crazy of an idea. And he was known for crazy, and often stupid and silly ideas, so that was saying something. “Can you imagine if you did? It could make her turn up here, and I still remember last time.” He shuddered dramatically, suppressing a smirk. “We don’t need that again, once was enough. Brit still teases me about getting beaten up by girls.”
Finishing writing, with Patch’s input on contents and spelling, he went through all the cards again, laughing as he did. “Man, this is going to be so sweet! Just a shame we won’t be able to see everyone’s reactions. At least we’ll hear about it from Nick.” Pranks were so fun, and he had been lagging a little bit behind on that front lately, so there was no time like the present to get back into the swing of things. “You should do one to Mallory! Don’t know who from though.” Evan tried to think. “She’s pretty cool, I’m sure she’ll find it funny. Once she gets it’s a joke.” he grinned.
“Oh, almost forgot. Told Brit this morn, you’re gonna love this.” Evan enthused, getting excited himself. “I’ve tracked down the three little piggies and some other barnyard animals, the cheerleader prank is so on! We should do it on next practice or game day, I thought. And Brit reckons Mal will be happy to film it, so we can concentrate on the fun stuff of getting the animals in the locker room. We can plan it all, once we get the ‘gang’ together.” he laughed. “You still in, right? It’s gonna be awesome, our best yet. Gotta have you masterminding it with me.”

"Either that or he thinks I have a death wish," Patch rolled his eyes. "Hasn't left me alone about her since she almost killed us, thinks I like that for some reason." Somehow being strangled and bitten was not his idea of a good time. Now, scraped knees and sweat and mud, that was fun, but that also involved a competition he had some chance of winning. He couldn't win against someone if he couldn't even bring himself to fight back.
"Ah, the pop princess," He couldn't believe he hadn't thought of writing a prank card to her! She was cool, it was true, but at the same time he had made it his personal mission to ridicule her for her taste in pop rock. Then again, he had a very broad definition of what constituted pop music, a definition few people agreed with. Still, it was fun to tease her and she was more than capable of standing up for herself -- in a way that he could recognize. He didn't always recognize when girls were standing up for themselves, so in his mind Mal doing so was much more impressive than it perhaps should have been.
"Maybe from that Phil guy, the one who pretends he's a professor," He suggested. They were in a few classes together, and it was real hard to miss the Korean boy. "Have to write it fancy, though, I think he's into poetry'n'stuff."
He was excited when Evan announced he had found the barnyard animals needed for their cheerleading prank. "Oh, hell yeah," He grinned, "Course I'm in, this is gonna be classic. So me, you, Mal and Brit...JJ's in, right? And Ian and Zac?"

“Fancy, poetry? That’s gonna be a tough one.” Evan grinned, grabbing one more card to finish off their pulled out of nowhere prank. He was right, it took him and Patch nearly the rest of lunch to work out something that sounded as though it came from Phil, but they managed to come up with something. And, Evan had to say, they did a pretty good job of it. “Let’s call it quits now while we’re ahead. I don’t think I can come up with any more things to write.” he laughed. This whole writing fake Valentine’s Day cards trick turned out harder than what he thought. It seemed the things that involved him falling and getting hurt were actually easier.
“To be honest, dunno.” Evan shrugged, when asked if the rest of Brit’s band were going to join in on what had to be one of the most awesome pranks ever. “Brit mentioned something a while back about them joining in, but nothing recently. Don’t see they wouldn’t though, it’s going to be classic. Besides, Ian and Zac wouldn’t pass up a chance to see cheerleaders run around in panic.”
Grabbing the cards, Evan quickly hopped to his feet, waiting for Patch to do the same. “Well, lunch is almost over, let’s go drop these in everyone’s locker before we’re spotted.”
Wrapped for Evan
