[Character name: Jayson Michaels] [Location: Cafeteria]
Jay bought his lunch as usual. He sat down and picked at it. School lunch sucked. Everything about school sucked. He should have skipped, but he was in trouble if he skipped anymore this semester. It was already a month in. What did that say about him. Jay could careless. School did shit for him anyway. Jay continued to pick at his lunch. He looked at the happy couples. Love was for suckers. All love led to was a broken heart.
Jay preferred to do the breaking. Then again he gave any woman who messed with him fair warning. He was a heart breaker. It was not his fault if someone still wanted to try and break down the wall he built. He had to applaud the women that tired, but no one succeeded.
Jay pushed the try away in favor of a book called a "Tale of Two Cities." People might wonder what the hell jay was doing with a book but he was bored. He felt someone behind him and could careless who it was, "You can sit down at your own risk." he told who ever it was. Jay turned a page. He was not much for conversation. He hoped the person who was behind him would either leave or eat in piece. Jay doubted that would happen, but the idea sounded nice to him.

Emma was not one for Valentine's Day. It didn't only have to do with the fact that she'd never had a date for it, but also that she'd grown up with a single mother who liked to openly despise the holiday. The sentiment had sort of rubbed off on Emma--not that she'd vocalized it. After all, that morning when her father had given her a giant Hershey Kiss and a box of candy hearts, she smiled and thanked him. She'd have to pick him up something on her way home from school...
And as far as school went, Emma tended to stick to herself so it was easier to avoid things like holidays. Still, just because she was a loner, didn't mean she didn't know who everyone was. She been going to Silver for about a month now and she pretty much had her who's who down, even if she hadn't spoken to the majority of those people.
So when she went to go sit down at the empty table next to Jayson Michaels...she was quite surprised when he spoke to her. Guys like him didn't speak to girls like her. It just didn't happen. And while she would have much preferred the empty table beside him...she knew better than to say no to him, even if he didn't seem too cordial towards her.
"Um...right," she said quietly, turned to sit at his table. What was she doing? Maybe running away would be a better option. She tripped over her own feet, knocking into the table a bit...only catching her balance by slamming her tray down and holding onto the table itself. The plastic tray made a loud crack of a sound as it it the table, but Emma didn't fall on her face, so she supposed it was a win.
"Um...erm...sorry...sorry," she said, looking down as she slid into the chair across from him. "Tale of Two Cities," she commented looking at the book title. "Cool..." she said nervously, she normally wasn't one to talk much, even when she was nervous but she'd just knocked into his table after he asked her to sit with him so she was pretty sure that in this case she was supposed to say something. "That for English class?" she chirped, her voice an octave too high, revealing her nerves.

Jay snickered at the poor girl. She looked so nervous. The way she spoke. Or perhaps that was just her naturally. Either way she was cute. She seemed shy, so this would be fun. Jay crossed his arms on the table and leaned forward, "Are you okay?" He asked. Sure she had not hurt herself, but he was not a complete jack ass. She tripped. He was just thankful he did not have to watch her fall on her ass. He would have laughed at that.
When she mentioned the book he pushed it away, "Stupid book report. I figured I would give the book a chance." He was not about to admit he was reading for fun. That was not the Jayson Michaels way. Sadly he had no idea who the meek girl was who was sitting next to him. She was a looker though.
Sadly the shy girls were not for him. Shy girls were the ones he ended up hurting. Jay hated to hurt someone. He really did, but to be nice went against the facade he built up for himself. Jay smiled and eyed her, "You're hot. I am jay...who do I have the pleasure of sitting next to?" Yes his flirtatious side was coming out.

"Uh...yeah...fine," Emma said quietly. She felt dumb. Why did she have to be so clumsy? It was embarrassing and drew far too much attention to her, when really all she wanted to be was invisible. Yeah, the whole being really quiet thing sucks sometimes...got a little lonely, but it was far better that her trying to be social--she was far too awkward for that.
"Oh," she said when he dismissed the book. And she thought she might actually have something to talk to Jayson Michaels about...after all, she read all of the time. She probably read more than she did anything else. But she supposed it was no surprise that Jayson wasn't much of a reader--he actually had a social life. Yes, she knew exactly who he was as she knew exactly who all the popular kids were, even if they had no idea she existed. It was just that the popular kids were usually hard to miss.
When he said she was hot, she looked down for a moment before meeting his eyes once again. Emma had gotten reactions to her looks before so it wasn't as if the comment was a complete surprise but she did tend to try and downplay them. She didn't particularly like the attention. She knew that she should like it. Jayson was good looking--there was no denying that. But people like him made her especially nervous...anyone outgoing and forward did. So she usually tried to stay away from people like that.
But it was too late now. She tucked her long straight hair behind her ears, "Emma Swan," she said quietly. There was no need to ask him who he was.

"Its a pleasure Emma." And the pleasure was all his. Who would not want to sit with a beautiful woman. Something to stare at was always nice. Jay smirked at her and turned so his body was facing hers. He eyed her as she looked down. She really did seem shy. Aww poor girl, did she not know who she was sitting with. Perhaps he could make her break that shell just a tad, "so why is it we have never met? I thought I knew all the lovely ladies of this school. Nice to know it can still surprise me."
Jay smirked at her, "I might pick another book. Think I can get away with reading a magazine for an English Project." Jay let out a small laugh. He would love to see the teachers face if he even tried. Then again there was no project so what was he even saying. To admit he actually enjoyed reading would be a chip in his armor.
"What about you? I need details? Favorite movie? Book? Place to eat?" H said softly with a smile. Jay wasted no time trying to break that meek smile she had. He loved taking people out of their comfort zone a little, "Let's make a deal. You answer my questions and I will answer any you have?" It was always a fun game for him. He loved 20 questions. Oh the questions he would ask and not all would be very nice, "anything goes."

"Yeah, nice to meet you too," Emma said politely. She looked down again when he mentioned her looks. She didn't particularly like when people talked about how she looked. She was pretty...she guessed, but she didn't think she was that spectacular...at least not pretty enough to deserve special attention or anything. "I moved here from Arizona about a month ago," she explained. It was the only thing good about being somewhat new...it was easier to explain her invisibility that way.
"Of Mice and Men is a good book," Emma said. "A magazine...probably wouldn't be a good idea." Emma read a lot so she could probably even give him a recommendation if he wanted but he didn't really seem like the type that would appreciate a book recommendation so she decided to keep quiet about it unless he said something first.
Emma wanted to tell him that she didn't have any questions for him...but she wasn't sure she should actually vocalize that. She didn't feel completely comfortable, but maybe it wouldn't be so horrible talking about herself...just mildly horrible. And sharing her favorite movie and all that...she supposed it wasn't all that bad. "Okay," she said meekly. "My favorite movie is...Singing in the Rain maybe...and my favorite book is Wuthering Heights...and I'm not sure if I have a favorite place to eat. I usually eat at home and cook dinner for my dad," she explained.

Jay was all about looks. The facade he worse was like that. Focusing on looks meant there was no way he would break down that wall. Not that this girl could do that, but still. He listened as she talked. He had heard of the books she mentioned. One of the characters was named Larry or lenny in the first book and he had read the second. Wuthering Heights was a decent book. Poor Heathcliff and Catherine. Jay shook the thought from his head.
"Sounds pleasantly boring." He actually meant that in a good way. If she knew his past, odds are any girl would run and hide. No one cared for a murderer and that's how Jay felt. He had killed his dad and that was the big reason for the facade. He could not bear to let a girl in just to have her run away when she would learn the truth.
"My turn." Its only fair he answer his own question. "Favorite movie is easy Pulp Fiction. Tarrintino is one of the greats. Favorite book is a toss up between War of the Worlds and 1984." Jay sat back... in terms of the favorite place to eat. Well that was tricky. He missed his moms cooking, "I don't really get home cooked meals. So as far as a favorite place I guess it would have to be where ever my family orders take out from." It was true. His grandmother did not cook. "Next question?"

Emma nodded when he answered the questions himself. She was kind of surprised that he had favorite books and two at that, considering how he'd spoken about reading before. Pleasantly boring...Emma hadn't really responded to that one. What was she supposed to say to someone calling her boring? She was kind of boring. She didn't really need him to point that out.
"Oh...do you want me to come up with the question?" she asked. She didn't have any. She was sure she could think of something, but he'd probably think it was boring...just like her. She kind of didn't like that he thought she was boring. She was sort of deciding that she didn't like him very much. He was good looking, yes, but Emma wasn't one to pine after boys just because of the way they looked. Or at least, she hadn't before. She wanted someone with substance. Or at least she was pretty sure that was what she wanted. Although at this rate, Emma would probably always be alone because she never put herself out there at all. She didn't even really have any friends...
Crossing her legs, Emma figured she'd stick with the boring...at least for now until she thought of a more interesting question. She didn't like having to think of the questions though...she wished that he just asked them all. As much as Emma didn't really like to talk about herself, thinking of meaningful questions wasn't exactly her strong point either. "Uh....what's your favorite color?" she asked, adding, "Mine is purple," getting her answer out of the way.

Jay snorted at her question. It was cute. Really cute. "Favorite color. Such a complicated question." Jay was an ass, but he did not use to be. Just part of his protective wall. A girl like Emma would run away if she knew he killed a guy. All girls would run away. Which was the point in only having fun and nothing more....although it did get kind of old. New girl each night. As fun as it was sometimes Jay missed having that one girl. The girl who made it all worth it.
"Thats easy....Blue. Can't go wrong with a color that goes with everything." He smiled. At least she was playing the game. He did not care what the question was. It was just a way to pass the time and keep the conversation going. It beat staring at her all day and shifting around awkwardly.
"My turn." He said it in a nice husky tone. He smiled at her. She really had no idea who she was dealing with, "Are you really this shy or is it more of an act? You sure there is not some bad ass chick waiting to bust out?" He wanted to know.
See the problem with the good girl act, was it turned Jay on. He liked his girls nice and innocent. Which is why he tended to stay away from them. If Emma got involved with a guy like him...well she would end up hurt.

Emma shrugged when he teased her about her question. "Was there something you'd prefer I ask?" she looked at him, her brown eyes wide. She didn't know much about him. She knew that he was popular, and well...that was kind of all she needed to know. Based on that, she could figure out the generic points of his personality. Emma liked to think she was good at figuring people out because she was often observing rather than participating in things, but the problem with observing was she never actually got to know anyone well enough to know if her assessment was right.
"Blue is a nice color," Emma agreed, "perhaps my second favorite after purple," she told him. Jayson was right, blue did kind of go with everything...well at least most things, and it was a really easy color to wear--looked good on everybody.
When he asked his next question, Emma didn't really know how to respond. She didn't want to respond either. What was she supposed to say? Hesitating with the question and chewing on her bottom lip for a moment, she figured she'd have to just answer. He probably wouldn't let her get away with not answering it. "I...well...I guess I'm pretty quiet. I guess sometimes...it...it would be nice to...to go out more or something...but I don't think I'd ever be a 'bad ass chick'," she said, making air-quotes with her fingers. She shrugged. "I guess...I've always kind of done what I was supposed to." She probably sounded really boring. Maybe she was really boring. But every time Emma considered breaking out and doing something different, she never did. And with no one to really push her to do so...she probably never would.
