Comfort in a time of need (Jere, Jade, any)

Jeremy was still dazed by everything. It all happened so fast that his mind was still trying to make the amends with the shootings.

Then there was Jade...still no word from Alex. Normal people would be saying 'No news is good news' but then normal people hadn't gone through what seemed to be several hours of hell. He needed some comfort food.

Pulling into a small grocery store he headed to the frozen food and found what he was looking for. Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, today was a two pint day. He grabbed two and started towards the register. The school was all over the news.

He heard people whispering about how many people were dead, or how their kid was too good to be at *THAT* school when the shooting started. Those people were living in their own little world and trying to make it all a happy place.

That place only existed in musicals.

He paid and left the store and headed home. He pulled in the driveway and saw a package sitting on the front porch. He looked and saw it was for Julia but he didn't see from who.

Taking the package inside he set it on the end table before heading to the kitchen to get a spoon and endulge.

He lifted a huge scoop of the dairy goodness and said, "You may be bad for me, but you'll be good for now!" And just before he took a bite his phone rang.

He dropped the spoon and quickly grabbed the phone. "Yeah what hello?" his heart was racing!

Alex had been so busy with other things on his mind that Jeremy
not knowing the state of play was something of a slip of the mind, he had not really been thinking about the boy, this wasn't because he didn't like the boy in question because he did, it was simply that he had forgotten about him for a moment.

When it had hit him that Jeremy was still not with Jade, as he stood just outside the hospital about ready to go back in, he decided to dial Jeremy who he had taken's mobile from his brother at some point and not really paid attention to it.

He could still see families of people coming and going from the school as he stood waiting for the boy to pick up, he knew that some of them had only really been getting bad news all day. He heard the click as someone picked up.

"Yeah What Hello he heard on the line.

"Hey Jeremy, its Alex, sorry I haven't really had the chance to call you sooner, Jade is out of surgery and well his been asking for you, his not exactly the most coherent person right now... but if you want to come down here to the hospital, he is at the hospital where the rest of the school were taken." Alex said into the phone. "Its nothing to serious, they had to take the bullet out and do some repairs to the shoulder blade, he has a nasty break to his shoulder, which is pretty damn luck." Alex said to him as he saw press were still milling around. "I did ask the family lawyer to contact you while I sat waiting but to be honest his an idiot, and probably thought it best to wait until our parents touch down tonight before making those kind of phone calls." Alex told him that and the security around the boys had been increased by someone in the company.

"I'll let Mac know if your coming down here anyway, so they actually let you in to see him." Alex said he didn't sound the least bit happy about something as he glared at the evening sky. "You'd be doing me a huge favour anyway, I have to check on Sarah, and I don't really want to leave Jade alone." Alex said to him, he knew that his brother wasn't to keen on hospitals or doctors, thus why he wouldn't go near them to help him with his hearing for so long... "You may want to come through another entrance than the ER as well, the press are like Hyenna's out here." Alex told him.

Jade was safe, awake AND asking for him! That elevated Jeremy to the nth degree. "Alex you have just rocked my world big time, let Jade know I'm on my way up to see him." Jeremy instructed him as the lids went back on the ice cream.

He noted to not use the E/R entrance with the press there, there would be that. He'd go through the main entrance like he would going to see any other person at the hospital. "I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the heads up on the press." He wrote a scribbled message to the family about going to the hospital and see Jade before heading out the door.

He got to the lot and parked and headed inside avoiding anyone with a microphone or camera. He stopped by the gift shop and picked up a coco brown stuffed bear and a book of various crossword puzzles then headed up to the room.

Sure enough there was Mac watching out the door for people. He approached carefully, "I'm here to see Jade." Mac nodded and let him in.

He saw Jade in the bed, he cleared his throat loudly to announce his presence known. "You in the mood for some company?"

Jade was sat up in the bed in what could be described as comfortable for most people on most beds, he smiled brightly at seeing Jeremy, "Hey babe, their being a little stingy on the good stuff." Jade said to him with a grin, he was clearly ever so slightly high on what ever pain killers he happened to be on. "Your looking pretty good, not to badly banged up at least." he said as he checked out his boyfriend, yeah their seemed to be very little wrong with him.

"I imagine your family probably won't be to keen on you coming here to much." Jade said to him. "We're just lucky so far none of the press have tried to get past the hospital security, those who weren't to badly injured are on this floor." Jade said to him. "Most of whom I'm guessing that is, probably just want to be left alone." Jade said to him with a grin as Alex came into the room hugging Jade.

"I'll be back in a couple of hours, I'm going to check on Sarah." he said to him Jade nodded before pushing him towards the door with his good arm.

"Go already, tell her I said hi you big oaf." Jade said to his brother who nodded before leaving hastily. "That boy has it bad for that girl." he said to Jeremy with a smile. "So how are you, I'm groovy so long as they keep the pain killers coming, tell me what happened after they put me in the ambulance... getting information out of Alex is like flogging a dead horse." Jade asked him.

Jeremy did his best to hide the pain he was feeling seeing Jade hurt the way he was. He tried to keep a stiff upper lip. "This is only the start of whats coming to you." He went and pulled a chair over to the bed so he could be closer to Jade.

"I left them a note saying where I was. They'd tell me I was in the right place right now." He gently ran his hand up and down Jade's arm before the brothers embraced. "I just have nothing to say about what happened, course now they'll probably tighten security at both schools or some how combine us into one school."

He waited for Alex to leave. "I know how he feels." He gazed at Jade for a moment. "Not a whole lot happened, just gathered us and said that school would be closed for a while but staff would be on hand to talk and stuff. I stopped at the store on the way home and got myself some ice cream." He shouldn't have mentioned that, it made his stomach rumble for it. "I hadn't even had a bite when Alex called me."

His hand moved up and stroked Jade's cheek. "You know if your a good boy I could bring you some."

Jade smiled at him, "You left the house without eating your ice cream, are you crazy?" Jade asked him. "I'm probably going to be here for a couple of days, unless my parents organize a move to a private hospital... or better yet let me go home and be under the care of a GP." Jade said to him. "That however would be foolish to hope for." Jade said to him playfully, his shoulder was heavily strapped up any body including an idiot could tell that it would be a while before he was right again.

"Alex is already going to smuggle me out of here for the memorial, though to be honest getting me out of here is easy, getting me to come back in here that is the task that I don't envy anyone." Jade said closing his eyes clearly he was still under the influence of the drugs he had been given... his eyes shot open again pretty darn quickly causing him to shiver.

"Hey I have a great recommendation for how not to get out of school for a few days... what ever you do, don't get shot, it hurts like hell, and ruins your plans for a little while..." Jade said with a mischivous grin on his face. "Ice cream what wouldn't I do for some ice cream." he said picking up on something that Jeremy had said earlier.

"You are more important than ice cream to me." Jeremy playfully scolded Jade. "After meeting your parents, I wouldn't put it past them if they moved you. I'll stay with you until or if they do."

"Make a deal with you, you come back here after the memorial and I'll have a surprise of some kind for you waiting." Although Jeremy was clueless as to what you get for the guy who has everything.

Seeing Jade close his eyes sent a chill down Jeremy's spine, he was almost grateful when the eyes popped back opened. There was no way he was going to lose him.

He laughed at Jade's idea of how to not get out of school. "I'll remember that." He said as if he were truly writing a note out. He really had no idea what Jade's plans had been but it looked like sports were going to be out for awhile anyway. "Let me see what I can smuggle up here for you." Jade was going to be fine, he hadn't lost his sense of humor. "But if Nurse Ratched tries to stop me I might have to make the supreme sacrifice to her!"

Jade laughed at the comment about his parents, "You have no idea, they have us followed, and after today I would think that my father will try to persuade us to leave the school and go back to home schooling." Jade said to him. "My sister has no hope what so ever of being allowed to attend this school, as of next year." Jade said to him he was currently fighting the fatigue that was threatening to overwhelm him.

He looked tired as the male nurse entered the room.

"You need to be resting Jade." the man said.

"A few more minutes." he said to the man with a smile.

"Five and no more, we need to give you some more pain medication before you go back to sleep." the man said before leaving the room.

"My version of demon nurse has a penis." Jade said to him. "One of the women nurses isn't to bad, at least I don't think so, the guy that was in here is a demon though." Jade said to him. "You will have to go soon, you don't want to be here when my parents enter the hospital, I imagine that it won't be pretty." Jade pointed out with a smile.

"I hate hospitals, I make no promises about staying here after the memorial, but at least I'll see what tomorrow brings, when I came around from the anastetic, I did not like the nauseating levels of pain I felt, my should felt like it was on fire. Morphine or vicadine is good for the soul. not to mention the pain." Jade said to him his eyes closing again.

The nurse reappeared in the room heading for the drip feed.

"I am amazed that he stayed awake as long as he did, your partner is in good hands, visiting hours to those who are not family ended a half hour ago." the nurse said laying a hand on Jeremy's shoulder. "He won't likely wake up again till the morning." he added.
