Fate often works in odd ways to protect those that have more bravery than wisdom. Such was the case for new student, Danny who managed to offend one of the doughty football players simply through his existence and when the shooting started, he was locked within a locker-room locker, struggling to find a way out. In fact he wasn’t released until school let out and the Janitor began to make his rounds. Danny was completely stressed by then, worrying about Julia and her welfare. As he sat on the front steps waiting for the chauffeur who had given up waiting for Danny almost an hour earlier, he texted her, too shy to talk directly to her. He was feeling a lot less cocky since his imprisonment.
#Lady Julia, I would know that you are well and suffered no harm from the ruffians which invaded this day, my sincerest regards, Lord Elladan of Rivendell (Danny )# he typed, hesitated a moment and then hit send before he could talk himself out of it. The chauffeur arrived and he directed him to a small gift shop near his home. He picked out a flower arrangement, a silver bowl resembling a chalice that was filled with assorted truffles and a lovely journal with handmade papers that had leaf impressions on each page. Signing a small card with a fairy that reminded him of Julia, he had it sent to her address which he had found online while being driven there.
Danny then went home to wait for any response that might come from his fledgling romantic efforts.

Julia’s very first concern after being let out from school was confirming that both Jeremy and Connor were safe (and spending time with their respective boyfriend’s, though Jeremy was less in date-mode seeing as Jade was at the hospital. This almost made her feel bad about wishing they would break up, but even injured Jade was decidedly not good enough for Jeremy. Maybe if he hadn’t kissed Mike after introducing himself to her as Jeremy’s boyfriend…but he had ruined her initial good impression of him with that little stunt.)
She didn’t go home immediately, nor did she go with Jeremy to the store. Instead she went straight to the bookstore, hoping to find some new fantasy world in which to immerse herself, something that would help take her mind off the tragedy of the day. She wondered if she should go visit Mike, as it was her fault he was injured in the first place. That was something she hadn’t told Jeremy; in fact, they hadn’t spoken of the shooting at all, other than a very brief and anxious exchange to make sure the other was safe. Then it was off to check on friends.
She slid one book off the shelf, eyeing the cover. The Time Traveler’s. That sounded promising, and the blurb on the back promised interesting history as well as philosophical explorations on the effects of time travel on the past. Intriguing! She flipped it open, and then…then her phone buzzed, alerting her she had a text message.
She had expected Connor, giving her a play-by-play of his date, or maybe even Jeremy with news of Jade, but it was neither of them. Instead, it was Daniel. She had almost forgotten about the strange long-haired boy who spoke in Sindarin, the later events of the day chasing out all thoughts of what had come before. It was sweet of him to ask after her, and it made her feel a twinge of guilt for not calling Ashley, or Renton, or Wynn.
Fingers flew over buttons as she typed out a reply.
#I’m as well as can be expected. And yourself? I’m sorry this happened on your first day, it isn’t always so dangerous here. – Julia#
Then, feeling sure that she was absolutely the worst person on earth for not doing this sooner, she texted Wynn and Ashley, hoping they didn’t hate her for only now thinking to check on them; she had just been so distracted!

Danny almost fell into the pool he was dangling his feet into as his phone vibrated in his pocket. He scrambled to pull it out and flip it open. He was absurdly disappointed when it was just a text, but at least he could save it. Try as he might he couldn't read anything romantic from her message which was rather disheartening, but he also figured she had not received his gifts as they were not mentioned.
He hit reply and considered his next volley in this love battle. # I missed the excitement as I was being detained by orcs in the locker room. The cells were rather small and smelly, but at least I missed the artillery fire. I thank you for your concern. I hope my eyes might be graced with your beauty soon. Sincerely, Danny#
He looked around to see if there were any servants around and stripped out of his pants, thinking a cool swim would ease his worries. He turned the phone to ring and left it near the edge as he slipped into the water.
