Daniel Alonzo Alegressi rode in the back seat of his parents limo and though most students would be checking out their schedules and perusing the map for the new school, Daniel was checking the weapons that he had managed to conceal in his boots. He hadn’t been allowed to wear his leggings and tunic so it would be a bit harder for him to access them, but if he was ambushed then he could protect himself or anyone else. He looked in a mirror and checked his appearance. His warrior braids were neat and his forest green sweater brought out green flecks in his brown eyes.
The limo pulled up in front of Gould high School and Danny narrowed his eyes as if he was assessing a battle situation. He slipped out of the long vehicle and stalked toward the building with single minded purpose. Once inside the chaos of the mixed population made him freeze, gazing around the halls like a deer blinded by headlights.
“By Elbereth, the place is overrun with goblins. I should never have attempted this mission alone. Where is Elrohir when I need him? I must get a message through to Adar. He can’t know that these ruins are infested.” Daniel moved to slip behind a large ficus tree. The space was already occupied however. “Oh excuse me. I didn’t know this tree was taken. i eneth nín Daniel, Man eneth lín?” he asked reverting to Elvish in his nerves and surprise.
(my name is Daniel, what is your name?)

Julia was actually greatly excited to be attending school at Gould, because that was where Connor was, and by extension all the people he had brough to her Valentine's Day party. She didn't really have any friends of her own at Silver, and though she had thought maybe she had found one in Ashley she hadn't seen him since the 14th. Of course, he was busy with a small child, so she couldn't really blame him.
One thing she had not anticipated was being addressed in Sindarin while at school; people hardly even used it on Lord of the Rings Online, and she was sure she would have known if any of her classmates spoke it. She cursed the fact that her given name just had to begin with a J, a consonant lacking in the tongue currently being spoken.
"Iulia i eneth nin." She replied, hoping he didn't want to have an extended conversation in this con-lang; she knew quite a bit, but the fact remained that Tolkien had not left enough vocabulary to discuss much of importance. She didn't think she recognized him, so she assumed he went to Gould. "Man cer...." She began, but trailed off when she noticed the prosthetics peeking out from his long hair. "lhaw melon." She told him, descending into giggles. He was not only speaking Sindarin to her (and as far as she was aware he didn't actually know she could understand it) but he had prosthetic ears! It was too much!

Danny smiled with delight as he was answered in kind, but decided it was best to go back to Common for ease of conversation. “Do you go here? I am supposed to be at Silver but they sent me here. He waved a piece of paper. This map is very confusing and I was not warned this place would be infested with Goblins. I am supposed to go to Orchestra, but I do not have time to do an extensive search of these ruins to find it,” he said, his dark eyes shining. His last school had been a boys school and he had barely entered this new building and he had met a beautiful maiden, far more beautiful than he had expected and she spoke Sindarin.
“Could you show me the way, fair maiden? I would stand in your debt and I care too much for my honor not to repay the favor,” he asked, reaching out to take her hand. He bowed over it and kissed the back.

"You're from Silver? Me too!" Julia was sure she had never seen him before; surely she would have noticed a long haired boy with prosthetic ears running around the school she had attended for the last three years of her life. "But I do know where the Orchestra room is, cause we shared with Gould last month." But then, wouldn't that mean he should know where it was? Unless his comment about being sent here instead of Silver meant he was a new student, but with Daniel's way of speaking she couldn't entirely be sure. He did seem to have a very gifted imagination, anyway. "What instrument do you play? I play the violin."
She had just managed to stop giggling when he kissed her hand; that only sent her off again. "Ummm, you don't have to repay me, it's my pleasure, really." She assured him, though she was dreadfully curious about what he could consider repayment. It would surely be immensely entertaining! "Where are you from...Daniel, was it? It's unfortunate, the goblins have lately been pillaging our places of learning. I'm trying to salvage as much knowledge as I can before they destroy it, perhaps you could help me on this quest." She offered, gesturing for him to follow her to the orchestra room.
"The place you seek isn't far now," She told him as they traversed the halls, "And you should be safe from the goblins there. The teacher is an Easterling, but he was in grave danger for not following their cults, and he fled here." In fact, Mr. Kim had fled North Korea for political asylum in the States, so she supposed her explanation to Daniel was something close to the truth.

Danny listened to Julia's sweet laughter as if it were the most beautiful music in all of Arda. "Repaying you would bring me great pleasure, Lady Julia. I have never met anyone like you before. You're like the coming of spring after the long dark of winter. I am from Imladris.... many call it Rivendell. My father is the Lord there. I have come here because my previous hall of learning fell to the foul ways of the Necromancer."
Lifting his flute case, he grinned. "I play the flute, its silvery notes are much like your beautiful laughter. I could listen forever and never need any other sustenance. I never realized that Easterlings were talented musically. It shows that even we must guard against base assumption." Danny looked around as they reached the music room. It was less crowded here. "Please milady, give me permission to call upon you later to assure myself of your continued good health. This seems to me to be a dangerous place."

Julia supposed that Danny meant he'd never met a girl who could speak Sindarin before, a statement that was entirely unsurprising. It wasn't as though it were that common, so unless he frequented the varying conventions and literary meetings that had sprung up around Tolkien's world he was unlikely to meet anyone else with his proclivities. And he was only in high school, so she doubted he had the time or money to actually travel to any of the appropriate gatherings; she certainly couldn't , though she would have loved a chance to meet others of her obsessive level of fandom.
"It isn't that dangerous," She denied. There was nothing sinister about Gould; even those who were serious about the football rivalry would surely not insist otherwise. Nothing dangerous ever happened at school. Well, except the Earthquake, but then, they were in California, it was only to be expected. She still wouldn't have called Gould (or Silver, either) dangerous places to be. They were as safe as any other school in the country.
"Sure, though, here, I'll give you my number." She struggled with the zipper on her bag for a moment before whipping out pen and paper, hastily scrawling her phone number across the bottom of a science worksheet, which she then ripped off and handed to him. "I need to get to class, but I'll see you round, okay?"
