The street corner seemed harmless enough. It was night, but the sky was clear. The streetlight had gone out, but the moon cast a pale glow over everything it could see, dousing the street corner in its peaceful light. The entire world seemed tinged a light blue. Levi walked down the sidewalk, fearing nothing, sensing everything. There was no danger here.
His view shifted, and he suddenly was watching himself walking, though now the world was growing dark. Instead of a calm blue the facade around him (or who he thought was him) grew a deep, eerie crimson. The flight of birds echoed ominously through the air, the sounds waves forming ripples in the atmosphere. Levi, or whoever it was, stopped underneath the streetlight.
It flickered.
Levi saw through his own eyes once more, and the lamp above flashed again. He gave pause, knowing in his mind he was about to be attacked. He wanted to move, he strained against the powers that kept him rooted in place, but his mind had no control. Not anymore. Fate was taking hold. A rope fell around him, binding tight what Levi once hoped to move. It was like a boa constrictor, and then it was a boa constrictor, wrapping slowly around his torso, slowly squeezing the air from Levi's lungs. At this rate the snake would take years to kill its prey, but there was no hurry. Levi knew this.
Laughter shattered the black of the night. The streetlight shone with a new purpose, to uncover the villain behind this excruciatingly slow attempt at Levi's life. A shadowy figure stepped from a doorway behind Levi, but Levi saw all this. He watched again from above, though now it was the fair Mary Jane Watson ensnared in the boa's vice-like grip. The shadowy figure managed to remain as such as he stepped out into the bright glow of the light, a sun in a barren world of darkness. Levi was watching from a rooftop now, stories above the crime taking place. He saw the shadowy figure caress first the snake, then the face of the helpless heroine. Levi felt the presence of a body next to his, and turned to see the silhouette of a man clad only in spandex. The moon was directly behind him, framing his body in its peaceful glow. The black form of a cape fluttered in the light breeze.
You must save her, Levi.
Levi first blinked then squinted his eyes. The form became no clearer. Was it whispering to him? Was he even hearing this?
Save her, Levi.
The voice, whether real or imagined, seemed familiar, but Levi knew not from where. He turned.
He was looking down from the balcony of Denny's house, the Gold residence. Denny's father was barbecuing in the pale moonlight, oblivious to the streetlight in his backyard and the crime that was about to take place beneath it. The shadowy figure walked to the grill and grabbed a large knife that was hanging from the side. It reflected the entirety of the moon in is blade. As the moon traveled to the tip, the blade lengthened, more than doubling in size. The figure spun towards the innocent girl and motioned to strike.
Levi jumped from the balcony as far as he could, and both the figure and the girl turned to face him. He caught himself looking in the eyes of Sandy Meyers as he tumbled to the ground.
He landed on his back, looking up only to stare in the eyes of Sandy. The streetlight began flaring up rhythmically in sync with the buzzing sound reverberating in Levi's brain.
He reached up with a groan to press the snooze button on his alarm clock, and his eyes fluttered open. No Sandy, no darkness. Only morning. Levi clicked off his alarm to keep it from bothering him again, and grabbed the notepad on his nightstand. He had to write this dream down, or he'd forget most of it before he could tell Denny.
