The horse reared up and neighed, announcing Sheriff Colby Jergens into town. He entered the saloon and pulled up a barstool.
"Howdy Miss Marrieanne, set me up!" He said to her with his charming smile.
"Sure thing sheriff!" The plump bar woman replied. "I think you'll be liking tonights entertainment as well." She slid the beer down to him.
He went to drink, but stopped and his eyebrows arched a little. "Oh really? Who is it? Anyone I know?"
"Ohhh you'll see soon enough!" There was a glimmer in her eyes. Not only did Marrianne own the bar but she also played matchmaker. She went up to the "Ladies and gentlemen, for your singing pleasure, Miss Catalina Corinthos!"
The audience whooped and hollered as the young saloon singer began her song. Colby watched the girl on stage his mouth dropped open.
Marrianne gently popped his mouth closed. "Your drawing flies there!" She said softly with a laugh to her voice.
Catalina went out into the audience teasing the men, when her eyes fell upon Sheriff Colby. She played up to him, giving him a coy smile. He smiled back, very taken with her. He'd go and talk to her after the show.
As she finished her song, Colby downed his beer and was about to head backstage when a young man came running to the saloon. "Sharf, sharf! Quenten the kid is comin' to town! Lookin' ta do you in!" Gregory was always excitable about things like this.
"Settle down there Gregory, I'll take care of him. Miss Marrianne, nothing stronger than ginger ale for my friend here." He headed towards the door when the gunshots signaled the coming of bad things!
"Everyone reach fer the sky!" Quenten shouted at the people in the saloon before sending off a couple more shots. He staggered to the bar. "Hey how 'bout some service here?!" he demanded.
Colby grabbed his shoulder. "Thats not the way things are done around here! Now I suggest you ask her real nice like for service."
Quenten narrowed his eyes. "I ain't talkin' to you sheriff." He growled at him and clenched his fist and punched Colby across the jaw.
Marrianne grabbed the gun from behind the bar. "Thats 'nugh Quenten, you go bustin' up my place, your head will be on my wall!"
Quenten raised his hands and backed away slowly. "Hey hey I'll back off," He started to say as his eyes caught the motion of Catalina coming from backstage. "I'll just get me a little bit to go!" He ran over and threw Catalina over his shoulder.
She screamed. "HELP ME!!!" Trying to kick Quenten, but failing miserably. He tossed her on his horse before jumping on the saddle.
"Now now little lady, you jes' settle down, ol' Quenten will take care of you!" He jerked the reins and the horse took off!
Colby was right behind him, jumping on his wonder horse, Comet, they rode swift as the wind. There was no way he'd let the bad guy win!
Quenten looked behind him to see Colby catching up. He started to reached for his gun. Catalina saw what was going to happen, she grabbed his hat and pulled it over Quenten's eyes. Quenten lost control of his horse which reared back in fright and began to slide down a hill!
Catalina screamed only to be caught by a pair of beefy arms and rugged hands. "I gotcha there Miss Catalina." Colby nodded to her. The two looked on, as Quenten and the horse went tumbling down the hill before hitting the rushing river, neither one of them moving.
"Sheriff Colby, you save me! How can I ever thank you?" She looked at him coyly but with a smile on her face.
"Just say you'll stay with me forever." He looked deep in her eyes.
"Yes of course I will!" She exclaimed. The two kissed deeply.
Comet turned to look at the two and whinnied as if to congratulate the two. Colby broke the kiss and started to laugh as Comet kept the whinnying up, Cat started to laugh to.
Colby helped her up on the back before getting on himself and headed back to the town.
