They have just discovered that the mom has ovarian cancer and only has months to live. Kaylie was attending Taft High School in Connecticut studying Music, Dance and Theater, but was brought back to California to be there for her moms' last few months. She is used to the structure of a boarding school and is not sure about going public. Her grandparents live in Florida in Boca Raton. Both of her parents are of direct descendant of passengers who came over on the Mayflower, Father - John Alden and Mother - William White. They are members of the Mayflower Society, as well as many other such things. Kaylie was going to make her come out as a debutante this year, but because of her mother's illness has been canceled. This is not a source of grief for Kaylie as she hadn't been looking forward to it anyhow. She would have gladly suffered through it though if it meant she wouldn't be losing her mother. Her grandmothers and mother are much more upset about it than she is. She has been promised a sweet 16 party instead which she would like to drop as well since she doesn't know anyone.

200 word writing sample: The sun was shining brightly as usual as long black limousine pulled up in front of Silver High. The chauffeur got out and moved to open the door so a lone passenger could emerge and stare at the large school. The sun hit her dark blonde hair and shone making it glow like light through a golden jar of honey. It hung in a cloud of waves and loose curls. The brilliant blue eyes looked worried as kids moved around her like a stream around a rock.
She had dressed in a pair of olive skinny jeans with a loose raw silk spaghetti strap tank in olive tie dye and a beige cardigan that was much too big for her and hung off her shoulders. Accessorized with a pair of matching dark brown suede short boots and a fringed purse, she was stylish in a vintage manner. Her book bag matched as well and threatened to push the cardigan completely off when she finally move toward the front doors.
Kaylie Alden slipped inside, barely noticed as the crowds of kids rushed towards their well known destinations. Reading signs posted on the walls, she turned toward the administration office and headed in to get her schedule and sign her transfer application. She dug her credential's out and handed them to the secretary and waited.
