He knows the truth, but had not told Trixie yet.
Nate has not always been the guy he is. He use to be a big trouble maker. He joined a gang, did drugs and drinking and even did some very bad things and spent time in juvenile hall. However, with his dad as the Sheriff he did not do much time.
When his friends left he got worse. He was the sheriffs kid getting into trouble and that could only go on for so long before Nate's dad shipped him off to California. Sonya agreed to take Nate in as long as he changed his behavior. Now Nate lives with Trixie and Jay.
Nate has amended his ways. he is not longer that hard ass he use to be. He got help and is no longer addicted to drugs or alcohol. He is trying to turn his life around, but Jay does not make that easy by being an ass hole.

Writing Sample: Nate woke up early in the morning to the sweet smell of breakfast. He got up and got dressed and walked to the kitchen. He immediately saw Trix, "Morning gorgeous." He said with a small smile as he gave her a hug. As close as they were nothing had ever happened with Trixie. It would be way, way too weird.
"So what is on your mind beautiful?" He was a flirt though and that did not change.
Trixie stabbed her pancake, "Men...thats whats wrong. Big men on stupid football teams. Named stupid DJ."
Nate eyed her. "Okay let me jsut back up before I get castrated....are you talking about Moose." Nate knew the guy from the football team.
"I am talking about a guy who drives me up the damn wall. This does not happen to me. I do not get this upset over guys. They get upset over me, but this guy is going to make me go insane." She stabbed her food some more.
