Well, for those who don't know, I like movies. A lot. The whole thing, watching them, to seeing how they're filmed, interests me. As does quizzing others about what they like. And seeing how I'm bored, you all get to be the victims...ahem...targets...ahem...lovely recipients of my quizzing. Was wondering what everyone's favourite movies are, and why? If you could be bothered to detail. ;D Also, any guilty pleasure movies? In the spirit of sharing, I'll give you my (current) top five, in no specific order.
1. House of Flying Daggers - Has everything I like. Awesome fight scenes, a few twists, great characters and some romance for the ladies, I repeat, for the ladies. Oddly enough, the wind blows something in my eye everytime I watch it.
2. Serenity - I'm a non-practising Browncoat, and a Whedon nut, so this has to go on the list. Plus, the River fight scene at the end, the great one-liners and the Rime Of The Ancient Mariner reference which my English loving nerd self picked up make it great.
3. Stardust - I can't quite put my finger on why I love it, but there's something about it that makes me watch it repeatedly.
4. Wolf Creek - This is a great Aussie horror, so I'm not sure if anyone else would have heard of it. I've seen a lot of horror movies, so they don't scare me much these days. This is one of the only that's creeped me out the past five or so years. For proof, when it came out, there were numerous reports of people leaving the cinema during screenings, crying, and even being sick. For those concerned, I did none of those things.
5. The Princess Bride - "Hello. My name is Inigo Monytoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." "Let me explain. No there is too much. Let me sum up." "There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world. 'Twould be a pity to damage yours."
Need there be any more justification?
And for guilty pleasures, Ghost would be up there. And I'll throw in Wild Child, I was forced to watch that last night for 'family movie night.' It surprised me, by how much I actually got into it. I laughed, and not just at the inevitable corny bits. I hate myself right now.

Good question
1: Jumper - Great story, loved the book and the sequel or prequel book to the movie about Griffin.
2: A few good men - I like early Cruise films, but this one just ticks all the right boxes for me, it has drama and edge.
3: Armageddon - Just because it blows things up, and kills Bruce Willis character, yay thats one for the good guys.
4: Star Trek 2009 - Just because its the best star trek film ever, that and Chris Pine is hot.
5: All Harry Potter films - Its a guilty pleasure, really is but I love the books and I have loved the films so far.
6: High School Musical 1-3 - Most definitely a guilty pleasure, but they're just so cool.
7: Police academy 1-7 - If you can't laugh at these films you have no sense of humour.

Why not...I will be nice and participate...is the least I could do since you have a crush on me and all, Issac....So here are my top five and no killing me for my pics.
1. The Princess Bride- Come on...its a classic...when the guy rolls down the hill yelling "As you wish." What woman does not love a good romance film and this one is not only romantic, but its funny as hell. I can't help it. I get a kick out of this movie every time.
2. Serenity- I absolutely love this movie.Ever since I saw the series Firefly, this has been one of my favorite movies. I love River and she kicks ass...that's one for the women...plus Mal...so hot for an older man...and funny as hell.
3. In to the Woods- not sure many people have seen or heard of this, but is a musical and they put the stage production in a movie....my mom first introduced me to this movie when i was really young so there are many memories attached to this movie and that's why I love it so much...its personal to me...
4. Sweet Home Alabama- A nice romantic comedy that cracks me up every time...I am a sucker for good chick flicks that had comedy and romance. Who does not love those kinds of stories...
5. Star Wars...all episodes even the new ones- Come on....do I really have to explain...its Star Wars enough said...how can you not love Han Solo and his bad boy ways....gotta love it....
Guilty Pleasure...
Masters of the Universe- Have a thing for He-man...the guy who plays him with that accent was hot...plus he was in Rocky......so that's a plus in my book....
Rocky I-IV- Yes I am aware this could be considered a man's thing with the boxing and all, but I like it still. Its a good series. Granted the first three are the best, but I have seen all five.
Harry Potter- I love wizards and witches. I like supernatural stuff like that....

Man, considering that I hardly ever watch movies, this is kind of difficult. Oh, well, it should probably be noted that of the following the only ones I saw in theaters were the LotR movies. The rest I was forced to watch by other people who rented them and said "YOU WILL WATCH THIS OR EEEEEEELSE" 1. High Fidelity - The music nerd in me giggles with delight at all the facts flung about, and the posters and stickers everywhere. Plus it was about the joys of committment, which is a message I happen to be down with. So romantic comedy plus music nerddery = win. 2. Zoolander - I think it's the absurd sense of humor this movie displays that makes me so fond of it. So many comedies make me cringe at the vulgarity and disrespect, but this one just made me laugh uproariously the entire time. 3. The Lord of the Rings trilogy - I'm a huge Tolkien nerd, and they were fabulously made movies with beautiful cinematography and adhered as close to the story as could be expected for a different medium. Also, I get to bitch about things they changed/removed/added, thus showing my alpha status in the nerd world. It's a win-win...for me. And the soundtrack was just epic, although since I uhhh may have set most of the songs and poems in the books to music myself, it's kind of jarring to hear them to different melodies. >.>; 4. Garden State - First off, who didn't love the soundtrack? Second, it was one of those slightly bizarre but realistic romantic stories that's kind of whistful and painful and messy and sweet. 5. Little Miss Sunshine - Family dysfunction at its finest. Then it totally won me over when they played the instrumental parts from Sufjan Stevens songs. <3 Sufjan!

Yikes. Tough one. Lately I've been watching more TV shows than anything else. I think the advent of DVD really made it more entertaining to watch a TV show. I watch entire seasons at a time! But, movies. My biggest weakness is comedies, they're the only thing I can really watch alone. WHich is bad, because I'm dying to see District 9. I've heard it's incredible!
But here we go, in reverse order to keep the suspense!
5. Forgetting Sarah Marshall - This is the most current in a series of what I consider "great date movies." It has a really good love story, but also a lot of comedy and junk for the guys. Also, Paul Rudd is my hero. He'll be on this list again a little later.
4. Serenity - Glad to see a lot of us are like minded on this one. Who wants to go burn down Fox for canceling one of the greatest TV shows ever? Space + Wild West = genius.
3. Shaun of the Dead - Though I also love Hot Fuzz, this one still makes me laugh. The scene in the bar set to "Don't Stop Me Now" might be one of the best in zombie movie history.
2. Anchorman - I don't know if I ever laughed this hard in a movie theatre. I know it's not everyone's thing, but holy moly. Will Ferrel at the top of his game, and a perfect cast. Including Paul Rudd.
1. LOTR - The only one I was even mildly disappointed in was the second. The whole weird Aragorn almost dies thing was unnecessary. But still the greatest movie triumph in my eyes.
I also just want to comment on Karen. Masters of the Universe? That's awesome that you love it (and Dolph Lundgren!). I love Rocky IV, but hated the He-Man movie. But, I loved the cartoon as a kid, and they did something completely different with the movie. As a kid, that never sat right with me. Same reason I refuse to see GI Joe. THEY DON"T WEAR POWER SUITS!

This is a great question! I have very eclectic taste in movies, about the only thing I won't watch is what I dub torture porn (ie. Saw 80 million, Touristas etc) but here's mine.
5. 9 to 5-Great movie for anyone who has had as a**hole for a boss!
4. Young Frankenstein-saw this in theaters when I was six and it stuck with me
3. It Came From Hollywood-Semi docummentary about the B movies of the 50's and 60's. Hosted by Gilda Radner, Dan Ackroyd, John Candy and Cheech and Chong. Its a rare movie to find but I own it!
2. Hogfather-Based on the Discworld novel by Terry Prachett. Best adaptation I have ever seen.
1. Sky Captain-Yes Jude Law is hot but I also loved how it was done like the old pulp movies.
Guilty pleasures:
5. Beware the Tobanga-A man in Africa is killed by his tribe for disobeying the chief, he comes back as a tree monster who really can't do much but walk and look menacing.
4. The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies-The title says it all.
3. Any of the old Godzilla movies-Men in rubber monster suits fighting, what more would a geek want?!
2. Santa Claus Conquers the Martains-Very campy and bizarre at the same time!
1. Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie: 'This Island Earth'-Fairly decent job of adapting the tv show to the screen, I blame Universal though for saying "You have to pick one of our movies."
