Ryan Donovan was bored. It was the weekend and he was bored. He'd actually been able to talk Patrick into hanging out with him earlier. Patrick and mentioned needing to pick something up at the mall and Ryan had relished in this. He'd happily agreed to come along, but within the first 10 minutes of being her, Patrick had met some girls and totally ditched him! Now, an hour later, Ryan walked through the Beverly Center mall for what seemed like the thousandth time. He'd already gone in and out of any store he cared to go to and he didn't really have a ton of money to keep spending either. His family was well off but he only got so much for his allowance. He wouldn't get his own credit card until he was 16. Taking the escalator up to the top floor where the food court was, Ryan walked out toward the center and plopped himself down at a random table. He wasn't all that hungry just yet and he didn't care if it was sort of crowded and tables were scared. Pouting slightly as he pulled out his cell phone, he half considered just calling his parents to pick him up even though that would be totally lame. He was about to text his sister and see what she was up to when his eyes fell upon someone standing in front of him with a tray full of food as if they were waiting for him to vacate so they could use the table. When Clara didn't come back from her morning milk run, Kylie was torn between getting worried and getting bored. Then again, it was Clara she was talking about so it hardly mattered if she got worried. The girl can take care of herself and she had proven it time and again. Now the getting bored part, that wasn't easily cured because Clara was usually the source of Kylie's entertainment.
That was the biggest reason why when Dominic announced that he was going to the mall, Kylie jumped at the chance to ask if she could tag along. "Can I come, Dom?" She gave him her puppy dog eyes and even though she could see him physically trying to turn her down and not fall for her charms, he quickly relented and that was how she ended up at the mall with Dom who was begrudgingly trying to entertain her.
Kylie was easily entertained by Dominic and didn't mind that he would rather be hanging out alone while trying to successfully pick up some chicks. Which he did find. Chicks. Sending some signals through his eyes, Kylie held back a smile and rolled her eyes before going off on her own, exploring the place by herself.
After a few rounds, her stomach growled and she went straight up where the food court is. They had a few things that were pretty good so she got a little of everything and tried to find a place but there was none that wasn't occupied. That is until she found one that only had one occupant and it had to be occupied by the person she had been avoiding the whole week.
"Are you saving the seat for someone in particular?" she asked curtly. Now Kylie was naturally a kind person but Ryan Donovan wasn't exactly deserving of her kindness especially after they had been in a few scuffles in school. The boy was insufferable and it didn't help that he was smug and insensitive. He got on her nerves especially since she knew he was just a wanna-be trying to play with the big dogs. Like his brother who Kylie admittedly thought was pretty cool despite his indiscretions.

Ryan's eye's flickered upward when he heard someone ask if he was saving the seat across from him. The voice was distinctly female and a little young sounding. Something about it was familiar but he didn't put two and two together in that split second before his large brown eyes found themselves directed upon the site of Kylie Cooper.
Kylie was a freshman at his school. Her locker was right next to his and he'd given her a hard time since the first time they'd spoken. She was a cute girl in that innocent sort of way. He wouldn't have called her hot like say that sophomore who he'd had lunch with the other day. But he had to admit, Kylie was a bit fun to mess with even though he was sort of scared of her step-sister or whatever their relationship was, even if he wasn't going to admit that.
It seemed at school that Kylie and Clara were connected at the hip - only apart when they had to be for classes, so Ryan was sort of surprised to see her on her own now. Ryan, of course had been caught off guard. He hadn't expected to run into anyone he knew which he supposed was sort of silly of him because the Beverly Center was a popular mall and lots of kids from school seemed to like to hang out at the mall.
He'd been pretty down on himself, sitting sort of slouched in his seat and he'd been staring down at his cell screen texting away to his sister. But now that Kylie was there...well, he couldn't very well let her know what was going on. He had a reputation to keep after all. He turned off the screen on his phone without sending the text and slid it into the pocket of his jeans as he straightened himself in his seat. The expression on his face quickly turned into one of arrogance as the corners of his lips lifted into a smirk. "Nope, it's all yours," he said, giving no indication that he planned on moving. He glanced around the food court quickly for signs of Clara but saw none. "No body guard today?" he asked simply, his tone a bit haughty as he continued to smirk at her.

When he looked up at Kylie, she immediately saw the smug expression on his face which she wanted so badly to wipe off with a well aimed backhanded slap courtesy of Clara. But she was civilised. And she was polite. She didn't need to resort to violence just because this good looking boy was trying to goad a response out of her.
She got 'permission' of Ryan so Kylie sat as far away from Ryan as possible. Even before she could tuck into her chips, Ryan spoke again. "No posse today?" She asked back with a dry tone. She started devouring her chips, not caring too much if Ryan was the type to call a girl on her faults. Kylie really shouldn't be too upset with the boy. He did offer her a seat. But she would have liked it better if he went away.
"Aren't you going to at least order something? I mean...people want seats here generally so they can sit down and enjoy a good meal and exceptional company." Though her facial expression remained static, her voice had a lilting sarcasm about it. She wasn't usually like this but this boy coupled with that Jesse kid had made her week just two insults shy of a horrible week.

Ryan didn't say anything when she asked about his posse. He assumed she meant Jesse. Where was Jesse? To be honest, Ryan had been so excited by the prospect of spending the afternoon with Patrick that he hadn't even called his friend. Now that that had fallen apart, Ryan had nothing to say for himself so he let the comment pass over his just as Kylie hadn't actually told him where Clara was.
"Nah," he said, "I was just chillin' for a moment, but now that you're here I have the excuse of keeping you company, don't I?" he smirked, watching her eat from across the table. Sure, he could have made a comment about how much she was eating, but Ryan wasn't a jerk. He didn't want to make anyone feel bad about themselves, nor did he see the point. He felt bad about himself enough - each and every time Patrick didn't give him the time of day - and he didn't need to inflict those feelings on anyone else. He really wasn't a bad guy, he was just trying very hard to be something he really wasn't. Would he eventually turn into that guy he wanted to be? Probably in due time, but for now he was probably more of a wanna-be.
"I mean I am being exception company, aren't I?" he said, using the words she'd said. "I mean, obviously you picked me to sit with over anyone else," he grinned. The empty seats were few and far between and it was clear that Ryan had been the best choice. The other empty seats seemed to be at tables that sat families, which he could only imagine wouldn't exactly be a comfortable situation...sitting with a random family. But still, Ryan, found it entertaining to give her a hard time about it.

Kylie let it slide when he didn't answer her question just as she hadn't answered his but he did answer the getting food question though. But with the smirk on his face, Kylie went back to being all whatever about him. She wondered if she had continued giving him the benefit of the doubt after the first few times he gave her a hard time if this chance encounter would be playing out differently.
As it were, she was still pretty sure he was a silly boy who wanted to be just like his brother but failing...a little miserably. Sure he had the looks to pull off getting girls but he was trying too hard. He even tried to pick her up and look how that had turned out. She felt that Ryan and her would always be on opposite sides of the same coin.
She scoffed lightly before scuffling pieces of chicken nuggets in her mouth. "Because you weren't a whole table of family members and shrilly girls gossipping about what a boy did with a girl in the supply closet in school. Sure in that aspect you're quite exceptional but..." she shrugged, hoping to finish her food so she wouldn't have to be such a bother to Ryan. Not that she thought she was a bother but still, Ryan was probably waiting for his friend Jesse. Insufferable Jesse.
Kylie spent the next few minutes eating in silence but felt too uncomfortable having the boy just sitting there and watching her eat. "So...are you finished with Mr Abbot's assignment?"

Ryan listened to Kylie's explanation knowing that unfortunately it was the truth. It wasn't exactly favorable he had to admit. The thing was that he didn't even like Kylie...not like that. Yes, she wasn't bad looking but she was cute even, but she wasn't the best looking girl he'd come across in school either. He'd only perhaps talked to her more since their lockers were right next to one another and they had some classes together.
However, the thing that bothered him about it all was that if it had been Patrick the girls would have tried to sit with him even if all the other tables were empty...not because he was the least annoying of the options. Ryan really wanted to be like his older brother. Patrick was just so cool and everyone liked him and Ryan had always wanted that. Last year, in middle school it had been easy enough. As an eighth grader he had a number of other eighth grade girls and well as girls in the sixth and seventh grades who he knew had fancied him. But here he was in high school at the bottom of the heap and it seemed that even a good deal of girls his own age now had aspirations of older boys.
"No. Haven't started it," he said about the assignment. It was clear that he'd become somewhat reflective although to what that was unknown to anyone but himself. While he thought these things he wasn't exactly going to share them...not even with Jesse, even though Ryan was sure that his friend felt the same way. Neither of them would mention it though and they'd just feed into one another, boosting each other's egos.
He pursed his lips, knowing that he had to be more arrogant if he wanted girls to fall for him...more confident and sure of himself. That's how Patrick was. Patrick, his brother who had totally ditched him for girls who weren't even that cute...okay maybe they were but Ryan was bitter. He reached across the table and took one of her chicken nuggets without asking and dipped into to sauce before eating it. "Thanks," he said his tone cocky, "maybe I should get something to eat," he mused, "but wouldn't want to lose the company," he said in a mocking tone, knowing he was acting sort of immature but hoping it would come off as an arrogant confidence instead.

Kylie stared at Ryan when he said he hadn't started it yet. She was a decent student so she always felt the need to make other people better than her but even as she looked at Ryan, she had no desire to say anything to make him rethink his homework schedule. And he seemed to have flown off to space as she spoke.
When Ryan stole a piece of her nuggets, Kylie almost shrieked but she remembered she was in public and such a reaction would have been a little too drastic for someone who had just stolen a piece of her food. Even if that someone was a big goofball. So she kept quiet and let him have it. At least he said thank you.
It didn't mean that she couldn't give him a nasty look for it though, which she was doing. "Yeah, you should get something to eat that isn't from my plate." She said through clenched teeth. "Oh, I'm so flattered." She simpered, batting her eyelashes at Ryan before a deadpan look crossed her face. "Tell me something, you live off the souls you suck through your charm?"

Ryan wasn't really a bad student. He was just a procrastinator. He tended to do his assignments last minute. And no, maybe he didn't get straight A's but he got A's sometimes even with his procrastination, but he usually got B's which were fine by him. Sure, there was the occasional C, but those were rare for the most part and didn't bother Ryan so much so long as they were rare. So the fact that Kylie thought he was a bad student or whatever for not starting an assignment yet...well, didn't even phase him. Not even a little bit.
He watched her expression change as he took one of her nuggets and could see that she was starting to get worked up as sarcasm began to pour through her voice. He couldn't help but grin, a real grin, not his normal arrogant smirk. "So, you think I'm charming then," he said. "I had no idea, but thanks for the compliment," he said still smiling. "Does Clara secretly think I'm charming too?" he asked, "What about Lila? She's rather pretty," he went on. Honestly, he wasn't sure what the relation was between the three girls, he just knew that Kylie and Clara were always together and maybe lived together too and that Lila hung about with them decently often, although she seemed to have other friends too.
"What about those girls over there?" he asked, nodding toward a table of girls who were laughing together. "You think they'd think I was charming to?" he asked, clearly mocking her now.

When he started to name her foster sisters, Kylie frowned deeply. "Clara would rather punch herself in her own face than think you were charming." She said immediately. To be honest, Kylie thought Ryan was exactly Lila's type. And she was quite embarrassed by that fact. "Don't you dare talk to Lila about this. In fact, don't even look at her. You're such a sleaze." Kylie was then directed to the gaggle of giggling girls to which the girl rolled her eyes. "It's too sad to see you want validation that bad. I mean I understand you asking what my sisters and I think about you because quite frankly, we actually matter but to want to know what they..." Kylie stopped herself, realising how mean she sounded. She suddenly didn't have any appetite. "I...I think I should..." without even finishing her food or her sentence, Kylie got out of the seat and walked out of the food court without a goodbye to Ryan. Why did she have to be so mean? Even if it was to a group of girls who didn't even know she talked about them or to Ryan who was a big douche. But it left her feeling very very dirty.
