Lily wasn't supposed to surf anymore. Sure, she'd started it because of Haden, but she actually had grown to like the sport. But the snowboarding season would be starting anew and her parents and trainers were all telling her to stop. She'd had her fun surfing but it was just a distraction. Just like Haden had been...they all been so happy when she said it was over. She remembered their faces...trying to act sorry as if they cared, but actually happy, telling her how she'd have better focus now and blah, blah, blah...
Lily did love snowboarding, but sometimes she wished that it allowed her to have more of a social life. Even if she was home schooled...that would be easier because at least then she wouldn't feel like she was missing out on anything. The way things were...well, it was nearly impossible to make friends since she missed so much time...she supposed Gray was her friend...they talked to one another in classes and she'd immed him a few times over the summer after the whole disaster with Haden. And then of course there was Jay...she wouldn't have passed her classes without him last year. She still needed to call him and see if he was available to help her out again this year.
The sky was turning pink and the giant orangey-red ball that was the sun was starting to lower itself. Lily walked out of the water dressed in her wetsuit, carrying her surfboard under her arm. This would be her last time surfing. Well, for now...at least until the Spring when the snowboarding season was over. Sure she complained sometimes, but she wasn't an idiot. She knew better than to risk getting hurt. Even today, she'd been extra careful out there.
She stuck the board in the sand and sat down beside it for a moment. There were a few others still surfing, trying to get the last 30 minutes of daylight, but for the most part the beach was clear. The ocean breeze was cool and if it hadn't been for the wetsuit, Lily would have needed a jacket.
She still didn't drive yet but she'd call her brother to pick her up in a bit. Her parents would be angry at her for going out, sure, but she'd maintain that one last time wouldn't hurt. And it hadn't. She wasn't injured so she was fine. She could go back to her regular training schedule tomorrow. For now she just sat there, watching the sunset in solitude, unaware that anyone else might be around her.
