Katie was never a fan of school so much because she had to drive herself. Her parents refused to give into her little stupid fear as they call it. Now Katie got along with her parents very well, but they just didn'[t understand. Katie hated to drive. She alwasy felt such fear behind the wheel. In fact it had lead to a few panic attacks. It was amazing she could drive at all. But she did. Usually to school and the beach and that was it.
In fact at the carnival, her cousin had driven. So Katie did not go off campus for lunch unless it was to the beach and back to school. which she had already done. Today she decided to attempt the food at the school. Why not. It couldn't be as bad as one may think. Only it was. It looked unrecognizable. Well some of it. Not all of it.
She got her tray and headed to find a seat. It was packed, but there were a few seats open. As she headed to the corner, she didn't see that someone had dropped a bottle on the floor. So when Katie stepped on it, she fell forward causing her lunch to literally hit someone. Which of course left her lunch on this person's chest. Now normally this would be funny and Katie was holding back a laugh right now.
"Sorry..." She managed to say as she covered her mouth to keep from laughing.

School hadn't been going quite as well as Ryan had hoped. He'd somehow thought that in high school everything would be different...cooler... He'd get tons of girls and get to hang out with Patrick... Only that wasn't really happening. Sure, he'd convinced a few freshmen girls into thinking he was cool, but without his brother's approval, he still felt like sort of a dork. Plus, Patrick was pissed at him for accidentally blabbing about bringing that hot girl home. Ryan really hadn't meant anything by it. Up until last night, he really didn't think his parents cared about that sort of thing. But he supposed his parents had been trying to be extra strict since Patrick had gotten kicked out of school. So basically for the most part they didn't care but would choose rare moments (like last night) to be strict and act like parents.
Oh well, Patrick would get over it. In fact, he probably already had. Ryan would find him at lunch and they'd sit together and then everyone would see how cool he was. Hopefully. "Come on, Mads," he said to his twin as they navigated through the cafeteria. "He's over there," he said pointing to his older brother who was sitting at one of the tables chatting up some cute brunette.
Maddy rolled her eyes, "Like he really wants you to go over there right now," she said sarcastically. She was less fond of their older brother and hated that Ryan tried to be him, but Maddy still stood by Ryan's side and followed him around anyway. Even when he got all annoying and girl crazy. As they walked a girl bumped into Maddy, leaving food on the front of her shirt. "Seriously?!" she said, kind of giving the girl a death glare. Maddy wasn't really a mean person, she just tended to be very sarcastic and moody about things.
Ryan smiled. The girl with the lunch was cute! He laughed. "Aw, you'll be fine. Just wash it off in the bathroom and use the drier to dry off and no one will even notice."
"I hate this place," Maddy said as she walked off shaking her head. Ryan still had a smile on his face. Patrick was busy with a girl anyway. Clearly it would be much cooler if he found his own girl to chat up! Not even considering the fact that this girl was a year older than him and probably wanted nothing to do with a freshman boy, Ryan got to work. "She'll be okay," he assured the girl. "And she wasn't really angry. That's just how she is. I should know, I'm her brother," Ryan said. He and Maddy looked alike sort of, but he wanted to make sure the girl didn't think they were dating or anything just in case.
"It is pretty crowded in here though...you want me to help you carry that before you spill it all over someone else?" he offered with a smirk. "I'm Ryan by the way."

Before Katie could actually apologize for real, the girl walked off obviously upset. "Sorry." She called once again after the girl who didn't seem to care. Katie looked back at the boy who just introduced himelf as Ryan. He seemed to be younger then her. Which was not a bad thing. Katie didn't discriminate when it came to friends. "If you say she is okay and you are her brother, then cool. I am sorry. I mean I would hate it if someone spilled pudding on my shirt too. So....hopefully she can get someof it out, cause pudding can be an embaressing stain." Katie said with a shrug.
She smiled at Ryan. "Nice to meet you Ryan. I am Katie and I never refuse an offer of help." She chuckled and handed him her tray. "Lead the way." She moved so she could follow Ryan. It might look weird for her to be following a bo who was obvious younger then her, but Katie did not care much about what people thought. Ryan was being nice and she liked the company. "So do youmake it a habit of helping people out when they are obviously being klutzy for the day?" She asked as she sat down and pulled her tray over.
Katie of course had no idea who Ryan was or who his brother was. She was oblivious to hat sort of thing. She was also oblivious that Ryan was getting those man he is cool looks since he was talking to a cute older woman. Katie was only thinking about her food cause man she was hungry.

Ryan was elated. He took her tray and walked over to an empty table and sat down across from her, pushing her tray back toward her. People were watching, talking. Patrick would be proud. All Ryan really wanted to do was impress his older brother and their friends. He could already imagine being one of them...walking down the halls with them, taking all the younger girls for himself while they split up the older ones... It would be perfect... Totally wasn't going to happen, but Ryan could be idealistic at times.
"Well, yeah, I like to be helpful," he said with a smirk, realizing that he didn't really have a lunch of his own, but oh well, he'd just grab a snack before class. He didn't want to risk losing out on this chance that he'd fabricated in his head just for the sake of his stomach. "And my sister really is fine, she's just super moody--plus if she gets it right away I'm sure the pudding will wash right off," he said with another smile. He was actually glad that it had happened.
He leaned back in his chair trying to look cool and relaxed...mimicking Patrick's stance from across the cafeteria. "So, you make it a habit of walking into people and getting pudding on their shirts?" he asked, raising his eyebrows, "or is that just how you get to know people?" He was pretty certain he was playing it smooth and hoped that it was working. The boy definitely tried too hard most of the time, but he was young and too inexperienced with girls to figure that all out. Sure in middle school it had been easy, he'd been cool and had dated lots of girls but the girls in the seventh and eighth grade hardly went past kissing and usually just wanted him to take them to movies where they'd hold hands the entire time and sit together at lunch and call that dating. He knew it would be different in high school, or at least he assumed it would be.

Katie smirkedd as he leaned back. She couldn't help but find it funny as Ryan adopted a cool pose. Of course she didn't know it was suppose to be a cool pose, she just found it funny. She smiled at him as she took a bite of her lunch. "Its a good ice breaker. You should try it." She laughed as she took another bite. "I mean I meant for it to fall at her feet." Katie said with a wink as she continued to eat. "You hungry? I know people say Cafeteria food will kill, but it's not that bad as long as you go for the food that looks like food."
Sometimes Katie could be an exception to the rule. If you told her not to jump, she would jump just for the hell of it. So when told not to eat the cafeteria food, of course she would eat it sometimes. She looked a Ryan, he was nice for a younger kid. She liked him. As a friend anyway. he seemedlike a good guy. She didn't know about his older brother. She didn't know a lot which was not a bad thing.
"What about you? Make it a habit of helping girls who spill their lunch on your sister?" She asked laughing. Katie took a few more bites before opening the can of soda she purchased. Katie was enjoying the company. She needed it sometimes. Katie could be a bit of a loner at times.

"Yeah, I'm good for now," Ryan said. "I'll just grab something before class, wouldn't want to lose my seat," he smirked, "I imagine this is a popular one." He meant it his seat across the table from her was popular because she was hot. She wasn't trying to get rid of him...she was being really nice, but she didn't seem to be flirting either, which worried Ryan a bit. Did this mean that he wasn't going to score? Probably. Oh well, at least talking to an older girl during lunch would give him cred... Patrick had warned him that it was nearly impossible to hook up with older girls until you were at least a junior so this year he'd probably have to stick to just freshmen and next year he'd stick to freshmen and sophomores.... The freshmen girls had seemed a little more open to his charms that Katie did or the other older girls he'd talked to, but still, most of them were still more interested in Patrick than they were him. It sort of sucked.
"Well, like I said, Maddy can come off as a bit mean so I like to make sure to smooth things over for her," he grinned. Sure, part of that was true... Maddy wasn't a mean person but she had a short temper and little patience and Ryan knew that she came off that way sometimes. Still, he especially enjoyed when she snapped at hot girls because it meant he could play the part of the nice guy and sooth them. It was almost as if she was his wing woman without even trying.
"So, you excited for the whole new school year thing or do you still wish it was summer?" Ryan asked. "I can go both ways, obviously summer's awesome because there is no homework but less people are around which sort of sucks too," he said with a shrug. He didn't really know what to talk about with her but he wanted to keep the conversation going...make it at least look like they were hitting it off. He mentally willed his brother to look over and see him...see how cool he looked. Ryan was always so desperate to gain Patrick's approval. But every time he glanced over, Patrick was busy chatting up that girl, too busy to notice anyone or anything around him.
