It was really hard to make it through a day when the waves were calling your name. Call it an addiction all you wanted, but Katie loved the water. She was most likely a fish in another life. Either water or smoking. That was her life. Oh yeah and friends too of course. But Katie was passionate about surfing. Of course even she needed a break. But she was never far from the water of course. Katie could be found in a handful of places and one being near the beach. Now she wasn't in the water and there was no surfboard. One might die of shock. No Katie was at the carnival watching her little sister Lily and her baby cousin Juanita. Which meant Katie could not be smoking or surfing anyway. She walked around giving the little brats tickets. They were really brats, but sometimes she hated being in charge of her 15 year old sister and her 11 year old cousin. Who wanted to play baby sitter. Usually her older brother got to do the honors, but that stupid boy had a date, so of course it fell on Katie. Baby sitting was not so bad, but it made a teenage girl annoyed, especially when she had other plans for her night. Katie took a seat on a bench when her sister and cousin decided it was time to watch the show. Katie was sitting in the back, but the two girls were in her sight. Luckily Katie was not alone, she was with her other cousin, 17 year old Grace, but grace and Katie didn't get along. Katie got to watch the kids for a few hours and then Grace would take over. The cousins had a limited contact policy. Which worked for Katie. When Grace showed Katie, made sure to say bye to her sister and cousin and walked off. She liked the carnival, but Katie just wanted to spend the day smoking and relaxing. What was so wrong with that? Katie pulled out a joint and was about to light it when her shoulder collided with someone. "Oh sorry."

Delia walked through the carnival. She didn't know why she was attracted to it all but there was something about it. Perhaps it was all the people there...it was like a place where you could really get lost. No one had to notice you. Delia needed that. She wasn't being a total snob in school but she knew she had a bit of an attitude about it. She really wasn't a bitchy girl, she was just a girl with a lot to hide and she didn't want other people poking about in her business.
But she was going to be in school here for the next 2 years so she'd have to figure something out. What that was? She really wasn't sure. She was dressed in a pair of dark wash skinny jeans and a simple very pale pink jersey knit top, with a black cardigan over top to keep warm. LA wasn't that much cooler than San Diego was...it was only two hours north. But being by the ocean was always cold sometimes.
She was walking around mostly people watching and not really playing attention to where she was walking, after all she wasn't going anywhere particular. But it all backfired as she bumped someone. "Oh, sorry...my fault," she said to the other girl when she noticed the joint. Having a joint out in public like that...that was a ballsy move. "Oh..." Delia blurted. She of course had no problems with weed. She herself, while not a huge smoker had smoked it on occasion. Just seeing it out in the open instead of in private had surprised her at that moment. "Sorry," she said again, "it's not a big deal or anything..." she trailed off feeling slightly silly for reacting the way she had.

Katie smiled as the girl apologized twice. She wasn't about to try and hide the joint. She just smiled. "You want a hit?" She asked offering the girl te joint. Katie laughed as she put it in her pocket. "It's probably a good thing you bumped into me. I could have been caught." She said with a shrug. Not that she cared. Of course she might care if she was arrested. The possession was a misdemeanor, but usually you had to have more then an ounce and no way Katie had that much. This was a light joint compared to others.
She stuffed her hands on her pockets putting her lighter back. She wasn't about to smoke around someone she barely knew even if the girl didn't seem to care. Katie cared. Had this been Ben or Eden it would have been different. However, this girl probably had saved her. Katie just wanted to chill and relax cause she had to wait for her little sis to want to leave. She might be off baby sitting duty, but she had to drive the brat home.
"So enjoying the carnival. My sister loves it here." Katie shrugged. She leaned against the wall. "I like watching people play the games trying to improve others. It's rather funny." Katie had a weird sense of humor actually. Which was not always appreciated. Hopefully this girl wouldn't mind. "I'm Katie."

Delia sort of gave her a look when she asked if she wanted a hit but then the girl laughed and put it away. Probably a better idea. The last thing Delia needed was to get into any trouble. She was already a terrible burden on her Aunt and Uncle (okay actually they'd been very welcoming but Delia could only assume they would have preferred not to take her in), she didn't need to be getting in trouble over things like smoking in public...causing more of a headache for them than she already was.
The girl started talking a bit...making conversation. She seemed around Delia's age...they probably even went to the same school. It was after all a rather large high school. It seemed that a lot of people attended there. "Yeah," Delia said in response to her question. "I'm sort of new to LA...I've been here before but only to visit. I guess I'm still figuring out what is what...but I like it here...it sort of reminds me of being a kid or something," she said looking around.
"Yeah, well the games always were sort of a rip off," Delia pointed out so she kind of agreed that the people who got all intense over them were being dumb. The prizes weren't so great anyway. Who needed a giant stuffed animal to carry around anyway?
When the other girl introduced herself, Delia nodded. "I'm Delia," she replied. She'd almost lied...said a different name. Had this girl been a different age group, Delia probably would have... But the chance that she might go to her school kept her from doing it. Delia didn't want people to know she was a liar...okay she wasn't like pathological or anything. She just didn't want people to know her here. Back home people knew about her dad in prison and it was just so embarrassing. The last thing she needed was people finding out in LA.

Katie nodded. "I was raised in LA. But sometimes it feels as if I am visiting." Technically Katie was born in Mexico and technically her father travelled a lot for surfing, so Katie traveeled with him, so she was in and out of LA. Until now. Given the accident her father had been invovled in. She might actually get to stay put more then a few months. Of course when she was younger she had been in LA for a few years before she and her siblings began travelling with her father and mother on Surfing tours and to competitions.
It actually helped to be traveeling for the past year. Katie didn't have to drive. She mainly drives to two places. School and the beach and thats it. "LA is not hard to get use to or figure it out. Give it a month and you will know where to go and where to stay away from." At least thats what Katie believed.
"Nice to meet you Delia." She said smiling. "So why'd youmove to LA?" She asked. "I tend to pry so feel free to not answer and find a way to change the subject." Katie could not expect everyone to answe r her questions no matter the question. Some peopleliked privacy. Of course Privacy was out the window for Katie since her father was famous.

"Yeah, I suppose everywhere is like that though," Delia said. She hadn't moved around so much in her life be it seemed sensible to think that places were easy to learn. She had learned the ins and outs of San Diego...why not here? After all, her dad still had a couple years to get under his belt so she'd be in LA this year and next and then...well, wherever she picked for college she supposed, although she hadn't given too much thought to that yet. Delia wasn't a straight A student or anything like that, but she was still a very good student.
"Nice to meet you too," Delia said although once she said it, she thought that maybe she'd spoken too soon as Katie started nailing her down with questions. She admitted fault in doing this, but of course Delia couldn't back down. The last thing she wanted was for anyone to think that she had anything to hid.
"Oh, no, its no problem," she said with a smile. "My dad, he got this job in France," she lied easily as she'd practiced this one. "But my French isn't exactly good and the school systems are like completely different I think so it was just easier to move in with my Aunt and Uncle for the year...or maybe two years, he's not sure how long he'll be over there just yet," she said with a shrug. If there was one thing Delia was good at it was lying. She'd learned to lie at a young age to cover up her dad's crimes and now that he was put away it was easy to lie about where he was.

"Bummer about your dad." She said to Delia. Katie had no idea what it would be like without her dad. Well perhaps when she was younger, but for the past seven years or so she had been traveling with him. "I guess its a good thing thought. Probably would be annoying to have to get use to a whole new system over seas. " Katie had not idea Delia was lying. She didn't suspect a thing. Then again why would she.
"My dad travels a lot but always winds up back here. Traveling is part of his job, but he has never been sent away likes yours has. I hope you can see him and stuff or talk to him." She said with a shrug. Of course she could be mistaken, maybe Delia wasn't close with her dad at all. You never know. Katie should never assume just cause she and her dad are close that everyone else was close with their dad.
"My french sucks. I can speak Spanish though." Obviously since her dad was Hispanic. "At least it was nice for your Aunt and Uncle to take ya in. Where did you move from?" Surprisingly enough LA was the only city in California Katie had seen. She had been out of state when her dad traveled. But never gone with him when he traveled in California.

Delia almost flinched when the other girl said her dad had been sent away. She knew that Katie had no idea that Delia's dad was in jail...the wording was just a bad coincidence. "Yeah," she said, "well, it shouldn't be more than a year or two, plus I get to visit there over Christmas, so that should be fun." Another lie. The only visiting she'd be doing was during visitation hours on weekends that she drove over to the prison. "But we still talk on the phone...I mean its crazy because of the time difference, so whenever he calls I just have to answer because who knows when he'll be free again...but its been okay so far. He moved over there during the summer," she said. That was kind of true. She couldn't call her dad in jail...he had to call her so whenever he did, she had to answer, even if it meant leaving class for a bit, which already had happened to her teachers' dismay. "That's cool," Delia said. "I'm taking French but I don't really know it. I know Spanish too though...I grew up speaking it." After all, Delia was a Victorino, it was very clear that she had a Latina heritage as well. "Yeah, but its cool with my Aunt and Uncle, I have cousins close to my age so I can hang out with them...although," Delia said, glancing down at her watch, "speaking of, I should really get back before they worry," she lied. Okay, they wouldn't mind that she was out, and if it did get late, she could easily call and know they'd be fine with that. However, this girl seemed to be very interested in her life for some reason so Delia felt the need to bolt. LA was big...maybe she'd never see her again. "It was nice to meet you though, Katie," she said, "maybe I'll see you around sometime," she said, giving the girl a quick wave before heading away and disappearing into the crowd. Wrapped for Delia Feel free to Tag for Wrap with Katie's response if you'd like or this can just be the wrap. Up to you. I'm fine either way.
