Her summer had been a bore. That stupid church camp her mother had sent her to obviously didn't work and she had ended up being on house arrest the rest of summer. Raven and Isaiah's wedding had been amazing. Well, at least according to the pictures it was. Now the two lovebirds are shacked up in the family guest house just waiting for Isaiah Jr to pop out.
Going back to Gould or Silver, whatever it's called now, was not part of her plans but there she was standing in front of her locker, trying hard not to slam her head on the locker door repeatedly. She stuffed her books into the open locker and pushed it shut before going out on to the quad to eat her lunch.
Her mother was really being a pain and had not given her any lunch money nor did she pack lunch for her so Ezra had to be content with a packet of chips and a granola bar she had swiped from the pantry before leaving the house.
The weather was quite nice and there really shouldn't be any sour faces so Ezra calmed herself down and hummed to herself. It was part of the new song she had written over the summer. She had been writing a lot because of her confinement and there were some pretty good stuff she came up with. All she needed now was a producer and some recording time and she was golden.
Taking her notebook that was filled with stray paper and napkins, she went to a fresh page and started composing a new song as she munched on her granola bar.

With a packed up brown paper bag lunch in hand Kye headed down the hallway to the outside. It was kind of on the cool side outdoors. It was kind of a cool day but Kye didn't mind. The weather in Northern California where he'd mostly grown up with cooler than LA anyway so he was sort of still used to it. Plus with his jeans, zip up hoodie over top of his T-shirt (the one Jude had gotten him for his birthday) and his favorite beanie covering his hair, he felt warm enough.
"Move!" one of the football players said as he simultaeously pushed Kye out of the way so he could get to the doorway. Being on the stairs that led outside already and now with his balance tested, Kye tripped down the stairs, his lunch smashing to the ground underneath his left thigh. "Ouch," he said simply, sort of just looking down as the guy walked away, laughing with his friend.
Kye sort of just sat there, lifting his leg and pulling out his ruined lunch. And worse now there was a wet spot on the back of his jeans. This day couldn't really get worse...could it....

Kenzie happily came out of the building at a good pace, he missed Lana quite a bit. The Patterson's had gone of to god only knows where, the general making it quite clear that he would not be welcome should he try to find them. Warnings of restraining orders from the old man or worse was what had made him decide to let her go.
As he came out he watched one of the other jocks send a geek flying down the stairs shaking his head with disgust as he stepped down the steps to offer assistance. A while ago he might have let the incident go without doing anything or maybe laughing as he walked past to fit in with the rest of the jocks.
"Your food maybe in a state of non repair but at least you have your dignity." Kenzie said to the boy as he offered his hand to the boy to help him to his feet. "Okay that was just a bad pun but its pretty cold for LA so you should get up of that floor before you catch something." Kenzie said to the boy.
He really wasn't interested in touching the bag or the food that had spilled from the boys bag for that matter. Kenzie wasn't keen on getting into a mess not in these clothes anyway.

She was halfway done with her granola bar when a flurry of activity caught her peripheral vision. She looked up and saw one of her good friends sitting on the steps looking downtrodden. Lighting up, Ezra closed her notebook, stuffed it in her bag and grabbed her bag of chips and granola bar before shooting off the bench to join the older boy.
"Kye!" She shouted from afar, not caring if everyone else heard. Her knee length skirt fluttered around her knees as she sprinted across the quad to reach the stairs. When she finally reached him, she realised there was a reason he looked downtrodden. A boy had appeared out of nowhere and Ezra had to conduct her manner appropriately. "Oh Kye...that's...what happened?" She asked as she sidled up beside him, careful not to come into contact with any of the mess.
Their friendship was a strange one. Then again Ezra actually only came to know Kye through Landon. They happened to hit it off straightaway; Ezra liking Kye's shyness. When she found out about his crush on Jude, their friendship kind of grew and they practically became besties. But then the camp happened and they couldn't reach each other. She wasn't even sure if she was going to see him again but there they were, sitting on the steps together like no time had passed.
At least for her anyway. She just hoped Kye wasn't too mad at her for being away without even telling him. He didn't even know where she went or why she went. She didn't even have time to say goodbye to any of her friends.
Not to be rude to the guy she didn't know, she looked up at him and smiled. "Hi," she simply said before concentrating on Kye. Before, she would have ditched Kye and went straight for the new boy but she hadn't seen Kye in awhile and to see him this down wasn't how she pictured their reunion. "Wanna get up?" She asked.

As if it couldn't be worse someone had decided to help him... He supposed the guy was just being nice, but Kye just would have rather got up on his own and gone off somewhere to hide. Nothing every went the right way. "Um...thanks," he mumbled, glancing at the new stain on the back of his pants and thinking that he in no way still had his dignity.
But of course Kye hardly had time to process that when Ezra popped out of nowhere and started fawning over him. It only added to his embarrassment, but he supposed Ezra was of the helpful sort and would have acted that way no matter what. "Hey...Ezra...where have you been? I mean....when did you get back?" he asked. "Yes, I suppose its about time I have gotten up," he said now that both the boy and Ezra and mentioned it.
Kye picked up the ruined contents of his lunch and bunched them together with the ripped bag, before pushing himself up from the ground. Luckily, there was a trashcan right there so he was able to toss it right in there. "I guess I'm buying lunch today," he said with a sigh. "Don't really want to go back in there," he said, pointing at the school with his thumb. He'd already been humiliated enough and he had no desire to walk be in there with a stain on the back of his pants. He was sure once it dried it wouldn't really be noticeable though...at least he hoped it wouldn't. "I think I'll just head off campus," he said. "Thanks for your help though..." he told them. "Unless...you guys want to come with?" he offered. He knew Ezra but didn't know the other guy but he'd still helped him out so he supposed the least he could do was invite him to join.
Kye wasn't good with these sorts of things. He was awkward about it. It was easy with people like Ezra because she was loud and basically forced her way into a friendship, which at first had been kind of strange but now was sort of okay. "What'd'ya say?" he asked, adjusting his black knit beanie on his head.

Kenzie stared between the two of them, what to do if he went with them he might take a hit on the popularity front, then again it might just be interesting to follow them and find out why the boy was getting barrelled into. Of course it could be that the boy was in the wrong place at the right time, never the less it could be worth his time to find out what it was about.
"Sure why not." Kenzie sad to the boy. 'At least I don't have to eat that disgusting food in the cafeteria.' Kenzie thought to himself. 'What I wouldn't give for some home fried chicken right now, it might make this lunch go faster.' he thought schooling his features into a smile. It wouldn't do to have the people in front of him thinking that he was only interested in learning why the jocks had done what they had. "I could use a soda anyway." Kenzie said.
"I'm Kenzie." Kenzie introduced himself politely.
He eyed the hat on the boys hat like it was something vile, now a stetson, 'I can see why but a beenie, oh well we shall find out with time whether we can burn that thing.' Kenzie thought to himself. 'Do the kid a favor or two.' came as an after thought.
"Sure lead the way." Kenzie said to him.

When Kye got up, Ezra did too and she gave him a long overdue hug. She added a kiss at the end as an afterthought and smiled at him. "I've been under house arrest for the whole summer. I'll tell you all about it." She smiled. The idea of getting out of school to get lunch was a good one but she didn't have any money. She wondered if she could convince Kye to pay for her but just for today. She would totally pay him back.
The other boy introduced himself as Kenzie and Ezra nodded. "Hi Kenzie. I'd definitely come with you Kye but um, you gotta pay for me. And next time I'll totally pay for you!" She grinned widely, circling her arms around his as they walked.
She turned slightly to regard Kenzie. "Are you new? I haven't seen you before."

"Nice to meet you, I'm Kye," Kye said to the boy. Okay, maybe it really wasn't nice to meet him but only because he was meeting him under the circumstances that he'd gotten pushed over by a jock and landing on his lunch. It was sort of random that he wanted to join but Kye supposed that was how people became friends. He'd run into Jude randomly at the book store...and his ghost hunting friends he'd met randomly too. And then of course Ezra had met his sister randomly and now he was friends with her. Of course if Kye knew that the boy was worried about his social status taking a hit for talking to him, he probably would have been less pleased for Kenzie to join them, but seeing as he was unaware of this, he was all good.
Kye smiled and let out a small laugh when Ezra asked if he could pay for her. "Of course," he said. "Don't worry about it...you don't even have to pay me back." Anyone who looked at what Kye wore or saw where he lived would not think the boy to be rich. And technically if you looked at just what his mother made, he wasn't. However, Kye had very rich grandparents who tended to spoil him and his sister even if they didn't keep in touch often. It was probably because they knew that their daughter was all over the place and barely raising them so they took pity on their grandchildren and gave them anything they asked for and more.
"I didn't really have a plan since obviously I brought my lunch..." Kye said trailing off when Kenzie said to lead the way. "I guess that sandwich place down the street is pretty good though, does that sound good or do you guys prefer something else? I'm fine with whatever," he said starting to walk in the direction of the sandwich place. They could always change courses if someone picked a different place, but the back of his jeans were still wet from his lunch so he sort of wanted to get off campus before he was teased further. With any luck if he had any, his jeans would dry by the time he returned to school.
Ezra asked if Kenzie was new. Kye had never really seen the boy about either but then again Kye was usually so busy trying to be invisible that he didn't notice the people around him all the time. For all he knew the boy had been in one of his classes and Kye just hadn't noticed yet.
