Character Name: Davis Elmo Maher
Nickname: Dave, Davey
Age: 17
Birthday: December 1st, 1991
Place of Birth: Oxnard, CA
School: Silver
Grade: 11
Height: 6'2"
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Detailed Appearance: Dave is a taller guy, which makes him look skinnier than he actually is. He is by no means ripped, but he's a little more than just skin and bones. He usually keeps his very dark hair short, though he often goes a few months between haircuts so it occasionally gets pretty messy looking. He rarely styles it in any way, preferring to let it lie how it will, but if he does do anything to it he will keep it up with some styling cream. Most girls find him to be a pretty handsome guy, though he feels his nose is just way too big. His clothes vary from day to day. Sometimes he seems quite low key, simply wearing a flannel and skinny jeans, but other days he will "dress to impress" as he calls it. What this means to him is wearing bright colors, funny t-shirts, gaudy hats, flourescent glasses/sunglasses, anything that will catch a passerby's eye, and he especially likes zip hoodies. He also has two tattoos, or as he calls it one and a half. The first is on his left shoulder and was conceived during one drunken night with a few of his friends when he was 15. It is a dragon curling in upon itself, and it is all the colors of the rainbow. For a while it embarrased him, but anymore he just thinks it's funny. The second is pretty much a blob of dark on the inside of his left index finger. He got it shortly before he tranferred schools. It was originally supposed to be a moustache, but his mom found out what he was up to and made it to the tattoo parlor before it could get any further. She is currently making him save up his money to get it removed.
Personality: Dave can be a fun guy, and very likeable. In situations where he feels comfortable, he loves to joke around, goof off, and in general get into trouble. He can also be quite oblivious to social situations and say the completely wrong things at the wrong time. While he's never the guy who is the life of the party, he is often times right next to that guy, helping him out and having a great time. He is a bit shy, however, and since he transferred schools he hasn't quite been as flamboyant and energetic as he used to. Part of that comes from being in a new place and not having all his regular friends around, and part of that comes from the regret he feels for the last couple years of his life and how much he messed up. As much as he likes a good prank, he's gotten sort of nervous pushing the boundaries too much. He is also great at making friends with girls. They find him to be cute, funny, and mostly harmless as he doesn't place a lot of emphasis on dating. To be fair, he hasn't dated at all and it's something that secretly scares him. He knows he's good at being friends, and tends to stick to that. Still, he likes to playfully flirt, and has kissed a lot of girls.
Thoughts on High School: Dave joined Silver at the start of the previous year, and it took a while for him to adjust to a new place. In his previous school, he absolutely detested classes, and skipped quite often to hang out with his friends. This led to him being held back, which was why his mother forced a school transfer on him, both because she was upset at his old school and felt he was being negatively influenced by his friends there. He entered Silver for the start of his second sophomore year, which no one at Silver knows. He tells everyone he just started kindergarten late, which is why he is older than most kids in his classes. He was especially worried that people would blame him for the fire, as he used to get in trouble for similar antics at his old school, but after a rigourous interrogation by his mother he was found not to be guilty (as he wasn't). Still, all the back and forth between Gould and Silver did not help him to adjust any quicker. The earthquake didn't worry him too much, as having grown up in the LA area his whole life he was used to them. This one was a little worse than normal, and was scary at the time, but he isn't scared of more following. The shootings were quite different, however, and helped reinforce to him that he needed to turn his life around a bit more, and to take school a bit more serious. He didn't want to ever end up like one of those losers that gets caught up in a gang. It was terrifying being trapped in the lunch room, but he did get lot of sympathy hugs and attention from his friends at his old school, especially the girls.
Town Area: Riverside
Job: Currently working at Whole Foods, though he rarely keeps a job for more than a few months.
Transportation: Skateboard or feet. No car!
Family Background: Dave is an only child raised by a single mother, Miranda. His father Jordan passed away when Dave was five. Luckily, the family was never too wanting for money, but Miranda did have to work hard to afford to keep living a comfortable lifestyle. Eventually she found a decent job in sales, but it meant working harder and taking late hours in which Dave was left with a sitter and eventually no one but himself. Miranda is a decent mother, but her absence left Dave with a lot of free time, some of which went to healthy endeavors such as piano lessons, and some of which did not. Miranda's family lives on the other side of the country and Dave sees very little of them. Dave feels his mother is way too hard on him, though anymore he sees why. Still, he doesn't think he deserves it.
History: Dave grew up in the LA area his whole life, making what he thought were going to be his best, lifelong friends. His first few years of school were fine, and he was a good kid. His mother put him in all sorts of after school activities to keep him busy while she worked, though not all stuck. He took piano lessons for many years, and started playing the string bass, which eventually turned into the electric bass. As he got older, he and his friends began to become the class clowns, the troublemakers, and eventually he and his friends found their way to drugs and alcohol. He began to show up to class drunk, pull increasingly stupid "pranks" that became more and more mean-spirited, and generally be a jerk. He was popular in school, and lots of people overlooked this, but it started to become a big problem once he hit high school. Bashing mailboxes and playing ding dong ditch gave way to smashing windows and other acts of vandalism. A favorite prank was to simply light someones bushes on fire late at night. He showed up for classes less and less often, and it eventually caught up with him at the end of his sophomore year when he failed and the school wanted to hold him back a year. Dave was mortified, and his mother was furious. She yanked him from the school and transferred him to Silver where she hoped he could have a fresh start. She didn't allow him to see many of his old friends, the ones she felt were the troublemakers (mostly his guy friends). His first year at Silver was tumultuous, but he has started to get his act together, work harder at school, and even make a few friends. He is almost looking forward to summer ending and school starting again!
Class Schedule: I will add this when I can
Length of Attendance: Since sophomore year.
After school activities: Jazz band (bass)
Likes: Obviously, Dave likes just having fun in whatever form it may take. He likes to make people laugh and flirt with girls, though he gets uncomfortable with too much attention on him. He really like music and playing the bass. Some of his current favorite bands are Rise Against, Special K, and Hey Mercedes. He also loves watching television, as he was left with lots of free time to as a kid. Particularly, he likes comedies like Seinfeld, The Simpsons, Arrested Development, and Frisky Dingo. His current favorite is the two episodes of The Xtacles that were released. He likes skateboarding, and adrenaline rushes in general. He's no pro, but he can pull a few tricks on a vert ramp. He's also starting to find that science is a pretty interesting class now that he's paying attention. And hoodies, because they are super comfortable. He likes to party, still, and will drink most any kind of alcohol.
Dislikes: Being judged, as he feels especially bad for some of the things he's done in his life. He also is wary of the people he hangs out with, as he doesn't want to befriend anyone that could be trouble for him later on. Still, he doesn't like being all alone either, so he's made a few tentative friendships. It's been hard for him to maintain old friendships and make new friendships, which is a stress on his life. He doesn't like popcorn at all, especially when it gets stuck in his teeth. He stays away from most drugs anymore, with the exception of weed occasionally.
Other Information: A lot of people in school will probably recognize who Dave is, but I don't think many will really know him that well. He's probably just the weird kid with the flourescent glasses to most. Also, he absolutely HATES his middle name.

Dave used to loved the summer between school years, as it usually meant the freedom to do whatever he wanted. He could call up a friend and spend the day getting wasted on the beach, or sit beside someone's pool, or sneak into a movie. Summer, to a boy Dave's age, should mean independance!
But this summer was different. After having spent a year at a new school, Dave had few new friends to show for it. Most of his old friends were jerks, as he found out, and the few that weren't were usually busy or gone on vacation. This was also the first summer Dave was forced to have a job, a rule mandated by his mother. She got him a job at the Whole Foods thanks to their neighbor, and so she was easily able to see if he was showing up or not. He was.
The Whole Foods was where he had just come from, in fact, and for once his day was not entirely wasted by work. As he sat in front of the TV watching an old episode of 30 Rock, he hoped and prayed for someone to save him from another boring evening. Episodes came and went, and Dave even dozed off in front of the tv for a short while. When he awoke, the sky was dark.
"Mom?" he called, hoping at least there was someone to talk to, but his cry echoed though the house without a response. Still at work. He sighed.
Boy, school was looking pretty nice now.
