Character Name: Quinn Porter
Nickname: Quinnie
Age: 17
Birthday: September 4th
Place of birth: Sri Lanka
Grade: Junior [late admittance, homeschooled]
Height: 5'2
Hair Color: Light blond
Eye Color: Ice blue
Detailed Appearance: Quinn has long sun-kissed blonde hair that falls down to the middle of her back. She alternates between ponytails and letting it down free or pulled back with a hair band. She has 20/20 vision so she doesn't need any glasses or contacts and her eyes are naturally ice blue.
Her style is pretty simple but quite boyish even though most people view her previous career to be very girly. She usually chooses jeans over skirts, loose t-shirts over form-fitting, revealing tops. The staple in her outfits are always her dirty old sneakers that she's had since she was eleven. She's most likely to cover herself with a hoodie or a cardigan if she deems her outfit too racy. Then again, she thinks anything that doesn't cover her shoulders and collarbone is racy.
Personality: Quinn is a highly motivated girl with determination up the wazoo. She usually speaks her mind and doesn't hold back on advice and motivational speeches. But a part of her is very well-guarded. She grew up in an abusive home and finds solace in her one true love, which is gymnastics.
She's sharp-tongued but she has a soft side which she doesn't show just to anyone. She has crazy leadership qualities and a very unorthodox way of showing it. She's also quite aware of it even but she downplays it as much as possible. She's crazy confident of her abilities when it comes to gymnastics but outside of it, she isn't sure what or who she is.
Not one to show too much emotion besides anger, commitment and fierce determination, it takes a lot to get Quinn to fess up about anything remotely emotional and hell would freeze over before she would even consider crying. In public or on her own.
Trust is hard for her to comprehend. It took her years to build up a semblance of trust for her coach back when she was an elite gymnast and it took longer for her to trust her teammates.
She's an anal retentive, wanting things to be exactly in her order. She labels everything in her life, including her emotions. Outside of gymnastics, she's a daughter first and foremost and that's all she knows.
Thoughts On High School: All she knows about high school is from the John Hughes movies she'd ever seen in her entire life. There were the populars, the jocks and cheerleaders, the nerds, the outcasts and burnouts. She's been homeschooled her whole life so high school is new to her. All the events that had happened do not affect her because she wasn't around when they happened.
Town Area: Downtown Los Angeles
Job: Part-time assistant coach at a local gymnastics center.
Transportation: A black 2002 Subaru Legacy
Family Background: Mother - Hanna Lowell (Former Olympic gold medallist for gymnastics and head coach for the National team)
Father - Damien Porter (He's in the import/export business)
Stepfather - Jake Young (Surgeon)
Stepbrother - Julian Young (He's five)
History: Damien and Hanna met when they were in college. Hanna had just retired from gynastics and was settling into a regular lifestyle by then and they fell in love almost immediately. After seven years of courtship, Hanna finally relented and they got married soon after their engagement and not long after, Quinn was born. The arrival of the newborn quickly made Damien neglect his role as a husband as he started drinking, coming home late, enjoying other female company besides his wife's. And everytime he came home, his punching bag would be Quinn. And he was smart to only bruise her where there's no way anyone can see.
Hanna noticed the tension between his daughter and her father but didn't know where it was coming from and so she decided that they needed to go to a family therapist. Things went haywire when Quinn unknowingly confessed to the abuse through her drawings and after a long process of individual therapy, the abuse became clear to Hanna and she filed for a divorce and unsurprisingly won full custody. Damien was sent to prison elsewhere for several crimes and for awhile, the only thing that made Quinn smile was walking into the gymnastics center to see all her friends on the beam, the floor, the uneven bars and jumping off the vault.
Quinn became the National Champion along with winning the all around when she turned sixteen and was set to train for the Olympics when she took a mean tumble from the beam, landing on her neck. She was told by several doctors, including one Dr Jake Young, that she was unable to get back to the athlete she was before unless she wanted to be permanently stuck to a backbrace or worst. She can still do tumbles and low degree of difficulty routines but that was it.
So while Dr Young and Hanna started a whirlwind romance, Quinn was busy with her physical therapy until the couple finally announced of their marriage. By then, Quinn was just starting to warm up to the idea of never being the best as she was before and so the announcement that she was gaining a father and a brother threw her off. She almost ran away from home but her mother managed to calm her down with the news that she could still train but in small doses and she would have to really up her game in her physical therapies.
But it was never the same and by then she had been scouted by many gymnastics centers around America to coach their gymnasts and reluctantly, she chose the one that was near home. That also meant that she had to start going to a public school. Having been homeschooled for practically her whole life, Quinn didn't have any friends outside of her team members so the assimilation would probably take awhile.
Class Schedule: Hon. American History, Hon. Calculus, Hon. American Literature, Hon. Chemistry, PE, Computer Science.
Attendance Length: Brand spankin new
After School Activities: No school extracurriculars because she immediately goes to the gymnastics center after school.
Likes: The smell of newborn babies, soy nuts, waking up early in the morning just to see the sun rise, getting chalk all over her thighs, watching a girl land a perfect Chusovitina without being spotted, seeing her mother rise from the audience with that huge goofy smile when she's announced as the all arounder once again. She likes that she can now eat whatever she wants instead of just the stupid granola bars she had to scarf down when she was still in training.
Dislikes: Not being able to get on the uneven bars without constant supervision, having Jake Young as her legal adopted father, not being able to contact her real father even though he's a complete asshole, hearing people fuss over newborns and then when no one's looking, she's the one fussing over them. Having to give up something because she simply can't do it. Perspiring. She really hates perspiring.

Writing Sample: The room was dead silent and the spotlight was shone on the singular beam in the middle of the room. "Everyone is waiting with bated breath for Quinn Porter to step on to the beam and she executes a perfect front tuck mount! Unbelievably clean. Quinn Porter is known for her perfect mounts and dismounts. She sticks every landing and puts in so much artistry right from the beginning to the very end. She's the gymnast to watch and I can see bright future for her, Simon."
Quinn shut out all of the distractions, focusing on the small piece of wood holding all her weight. She performs three consecutive aerials before a backhandspring stepout. Every move calculated down to the nth. "Left with just the dismount and it is as usual a clean one! That move would win her the all rounder for the day no contest!" Quinn searched the room for her mother and grinned widely when she saw the woman bouncing up and down where she was sitting, clapping and grinning her ear off. Quinn waved and walked off the mats only to be surrounded by her teammates.
"Quinn that was amazing!" "Superb dismount as always!" "You're getting the gold for sure!" With a grin she hugged everyone and waited for her scores. A deafening cheer erupted through the whole arena as she was announced the highest scorer on beam and the other four apparatuses, naming her the National Champion. The ringing in her ear wouldn't stop until she splatted the alarm clock on her bedside table. And now she was going to a place where no one has heard of her before. Great.
