It wasn't a tearful reunion of father and son, instead Dominic was spitting fire and attitude for having been left by his mother who was, at the time, suffering from stage three cancer and couldn't bear to leave her son with anyone else but his own flesh and blood.
Westley, albeit a bit begrudgingly, takes Dominic in, despite the little boy's obvious hatred towards his own father. At first, Lily tried her hardest to ignore the fact that Dominic was obviously not her own son but after a year of living with Dominic, Lily couldn't stand it and bailed on the family, leaving Westley to take care of three kids on his own. He does a pretty good job of it, managing to tame Dominic who became fiercely protective of his new family, especially Kylie. His budding friendship with Miles grew over the years and he grew to respect Westley as a father.
Marie Gallagher came into the picture not so long after Lily's departure with kids who weren't even hers but Westley looked past that and proposed marriage to her anyway and soon the whole family had to move to a bigger house as Marie kept welcoming social services cases. Westley had a hard time with it but with time, he grew to accept it all and as time went by, everything became stable despite having such a shaky start.
Kylie was too young to remember her mother leaving and by the time she was aware of it, Marie was already in her life and the little girl immediately saw her as her own flesh and blood, not really caring that she was blond with brown eyes and looked nothing like her. The extension in the family began with Dominic showing up at their doorstep, rough around the edges and very cranky towards her father. Miles folded next. And then Gabriel. Then Dominic and Kylie were the only ones left. The boys were obviously rooting for Dominic but Kylie wasn't even fazed.
Finally, Dominic made his move, showing his cards and it was a high score. The guys whooped and patted Dominic's back and taunted Kylie who remained poker faced. "Oh...that's just amazing." Kylie said before slowly revealing her cards one by one and the boys were silenced when her cards trumped Dominic's cards. "Too bad it's not as good as mine though right?"
