Staring at the clock with her mouth hanging open, Sawyer didn't even realise the teacher was asking her something until a sharp sound resonated from her table, making the redhead jump a mile off her seat. The others around her snickered and she joined the laughter, not feeling embarrassed at all.
"Try to pay attention, it's the first day of school and-" before she could finish, the bell rang shrilly, causing an uproar from the students as they started chattering and getting their bags ready to leave the class. Sawyer shrugged and gathered her things up, stuffing them into her bag. "Don't forget the pop quiz next week on chapters two and five everyone." A collective groan swept across the room which made Sawyer giggle. It was funny how all the students had their own cliques but they were a united front when it came to pop quizzes.
"First day of school and you're already not paying attention, Miss James..." the teacher said when everyone was gone. Sawyer turned to the woman with a shrug and a smile. "First day blues, Miss. What can I say?" She inserted her earphones into her ears and the dull bass of her favourite song started thudding in her ears.
As she made her way to her locker, her lips moved to the lyrics soundlessly and her head bobbed up and down to the music. The whole world was gone as she started moving her body, managing to dodge pretty much everyone in her way as the song rose in its beat. "There are plenty of ways that you can hurt a man and bring him to the ground!" she sang loudly, much to the dismay of the people she passed in the hallway. "But I'm read-oof!"
Her body stalled as she ran into something solid, causing her to stagger backwards. Shaking her head to get rid of the stars swimming in her eyes, she raised a hand in apology to the person who was still standing in front of her. "I am VERY sorry!" She said, still not quite sure if the stars were gone or not.

Nothing had changed for Jay. DJ was still an ass and Jay still hated the guy. The only difference was that the girl he tutored had passed, and Jay of course took major credit for that. His summer had been great. he spent it traveling a little. As well as tanning. So he had a good tan.
He and his sister were still close but fighting. Nothing new. Jay still thought her taste in men sucked. Exhibit A, DJ, trying to be a cop. Yeah right that guy would probably shoot himself in the foot first. Jay of course had a lovely summer fling with a girl name Meg. A pretty red head, of an exotic nature. Meaning she was not from LA. Nor did he expect to see her ever again. if he did, he would be shocked. But now it was time to refocus on getting through his senior year, in which he was already being lazy about. Jay barely made it through the first day of school without skipping or falling asleep. That was such an accomplishment. Now he just had to make it through the year. If only there was perhaps a lovely, hot older teachers. A woman and not a girl. Oh well. One could dream and Jay was a perve. It didn't matter cause it was the first day of school which meant Jay had to be out celebrating.
Nothing new there. Same school different building. Just a new year, butpe, and then be off doing who knows what just as long as it was not here. Yes he loved LA, but he didn't care to stick around. He might stay in Cali or leave. The world was his playground. Yes Jay was still full of himself of course. Nohing had changed, not even memorable Meg who was not around. Jay was whistling as he walked out of his final classfor the day. The first week he had to be his best. If anything to at least assess any new students in the school and he was not referring to freshmen, more like new or exchange students that we older then freshmen. Jay smiled to himself at the idea. Damn he needed to get out and have fun. He had one thing on his brain and he needed to stop it and try thinking about other things. Like what? Someone give him an idea or someone to focus on please. Jay was a unique man and in no way was he making an sense right now, even his own head was driving him nuts.
As if his prayers were answered, some ran into his back and he turned around. He saw red hair and at first the image of the summer girl cameto his brain. But soon he realized she was nothim. But she was pretty. "No need to say sorry. Walking down the hall is an accident waiting to happen."

Once the stars were out of her eyes, Sawyer looked at her victim and suppressed a yelp. It was a senior. A big senior. A senior who had a very notorious reputation. Of course Sawyer wasn't one to judge. She held on tight to the "innocent until proven guilty" principle but he was BIG. Biting her lower lip, Sawyer ducked her head down, not wanting to make eye contact lest he was cursed her into stone like Medusa. Wait...what was she thinking? He was a regular teenage boy! He didn't have powers! Or did he...?
When he replied nicely, even justifying her bumping into him, she looked up and gave him a smile. See, he was nice. Of course, Sawyer didn't realise this was Jay's tactics. Being nice to a girl and then pounce on her. So the redhead was oblivious to it all and put it in her head that Jay was simply a nice guy who didn't mind being bumped into by a crazy redhead.
"Wow you're big." Were the first words that came out of her mouth as she looked at him from head to toe. "YOU are an accident waiting to happen. I mean anyone could just walk into you and need an ambulance. You're like a giant!" Sawyer exclaimed, expanding her hand to illustrate how big she thought he was.

Jay laughed as she commented that he was big. He had been working out. He smiled at her, "Thanks." Thats all he said. "Thats the first time I have heard those compliments, but I like them. Running into people is not always a bad thing. Its one of the best ways to meet people, such as yourself." He said in a smooth, friendly tone. He was being nice. Hell he was always nice with cute chicks and right now this girl was cute. "
Jay extended his hand, "And you would be? I would like to know the name of the girl who called me a giant. I'm Jay." He said it as he shook her hand. He would have kissed the back of it, but decided to save that for another time, and hopefully a date. But first he would chat her up a bit. Jay leaned against the lockers. "Where were you headed, I mean once you leave the school?" Perhaps he could join her. Still get to know her. if anything he just hoped for her name.
This school year was already looking up. First day and he ran into a hot girl already. come on. How could one beat that. Then again this was Jay. He always meant to run into a hot chick on the first day. This was her lucky day.Thats what Jay's big ego was saying inside his head anyway.

Sawyer smiled widely at Jay. Hey, he was pretty cool despite his notoriety. See, this is what happens when you give people the benefit of the doubt. You get friends. Or at least that was what Sawyer thought. She obviously didn't know this was how Jay operated. So she threw caution to the wind and engaged herself in conversation with the dark haired senior. "I agree completely."
Her hands were engulfed in his the moment she took it to shake. "Sawyer Lee James. Yikes man, your hands are big too. Seriously if you were in China right now the women there could fit in your palms." Sawyer grinned. "You can either call me Sawyer, Sawyer Lee or Sawyer Lee James. Or James. Or Lee. I really don't mind any of those names." She said in one breath.
People were staring by then, wondering what the hell Jay Michaels was talking to the resident crazy. Sawyer was of course oblivious to it all. "I'm going home. Well...I'm going to take the bus to go home so technically I'm going to the bus stop." She replied. "And are you going back up the beanstalk to be with your giant friends?" She laughed. "Get it? I called you a giant and Jack and the Beanstalk had that beanstalk where they had those giants up the clouds...haha! Get it? No...?"

"Thanks." He said laughing at the comment about his hands, "But I find engulfing American girls works just as well. I guess some girls enjoy big hands. From what I hear." He smiled at her as she mentioned her names. damn those were a few choices. "I like Lee." he said. "It suits you for some reason." Jay looked her over slightly once more. She was very friendly. Just they way he liked them. Oh this was going to be such a good year for him. He nodded and chuckled at the jack and the bean stalk comment. "You are something you know that. Can't say I have met many people like you."
Jay thought for a moment. "I can give you a ride home. I promise to be nothing but a gentleman, but the idea of you waiting for a bus does not sound appealing. No woman should be stranded waiting on a bus that takes forever." Jay had been lucky to never have to take public transportation, but seriously, eww.
"What do you say? Will you take the ride? Or at least let me wait at the bus stop for you. After all, you have been so nice to me. I am not ready to join the beanstalk yet." He smirked. The thing about girls, was to let them be as crazy and unique as they were, but playing along went a long way to getting something from them.

"Why would anyone like big hands? They're kind of weird. Like there's this one band I really really like, and their cover art has this cartoon with a really big hand. It was funny. I mean the cartoon character is pretty small and to have such a big hand like that..." Sawyer laughed, shaking her head in amusement. "Not that you're small. I guess your hands are kinda proportionate to your body, lemme see..." she grabbed Jay's hand and measured it against his body and shrugged. "Eh, I guess it's not too bad." The redheaded junior patted his hand and took a step back.
Sawyer beamed when Jay basically called her unique. "Aw thanks, Jay! You know I like you very much. You're very good with your words. Maybe I can introduce you to Mr Red and Klaus. It's spelled like Claus as in Santa Claus but with a K and you don't call him Claws because he won't respond so you have to call him like house but with a KL in front you know?" She rambled. "Oh I've got crabs! Did I tell you that? Yeah you totally need to have crabs too because they're totally the best!" She exclaimed loudly, talking about her pet crabs.
Everyone around them stared and gasped. "I wish I brought them then you could see how awesome they are. Did you know that they can't walk straight because their legs are by their sides so they do this sideways walk. It's hilarious!" Sawyer mimicked a walking crab and laughed at herself. At the offer to send her back home, her eyes widened and she smiled. "That would be cool!" She nodded enthusiastically but remembered what had happened the last time a boy sent her home. She got grounded! She couldn't let her mother see her with another boy again!
"But I think I'll take the bus. It's funner that way. I've met a few awesome people on the bus." She grinned as she started to walk out of school. The bus stop was right in front of the school but her bus ran on a schedule and she was afraid she'd miss it and not make it back home in time for dinner.

Jay scratched his said honestly not sure where to go from what she said. She jumped from hands to Red and Klaus and then crabs. Jay was confused. She had crabs. Of course he thought she meant crabs as in down on a woman's private area type of thing, but when she imitated the walk Jay realized she meant pet crabs. He let out a breath of relief. "You have pet crabs? I have never met someone who had pet crabs. Lee you are something else." It was so true.
"And I will remember what you said about Red and Klaus." He told her hoping he got that right since he still didn't know what the hell she had said, but hey. Jay was just enjoying talking to a cute woman despite the staring. Less was just something else and it was entertaining actually. He smiled at her as she told him she wanted to take the bus. Too damn bad. "At least let me wait with you." He offered. The job of getting a woman to be his took a while sometimes. He could have a fast woman but the challenge was in woman who were not so easy.
Jay followed her outside the school and to the bus stop. He stood with her. "You take the bus a lot?" He asked. He stll could not fathom taking the bus. it was just so weird. And so gross. But Jay was not about to mention that. "So tell me, besides pet crabs and everything else I have learned about you, I am still finding myself wanting to know more. I am hoping to call you a possible friend...maybe we can have lunch together sometime. Cause I really do think you could be a cool friend to have."

"Yeah well crabs are pretty fun to take care of. All they do is sit under the warm light and snap at each other." Sawyer giggled. His offer to wait for the bus with her was welcomed and they both went out of school to the bus stop. There were a couple of girls there but they got on to the first bus that came over so Sawyer and Jay had the bus stop to themselves.
His question was met with a little laugh. "Well yeah. I mean I'm only fifteen. Well, sixteen soon but I don't wanna get a learner's permit yet. I like to be driven around before I have to drive other people around." Her own thoughts about driving was probably a whole lot different than teens her age. While her classmates were revved to get their license, she would rather wait until she absolutely had to. It wasn't as though she was scared but rather she was way too lazy to commit to classes and having to follow rules.
Jay wanting to find out more about her struck Sawyer as odd but she was more than willing to oblige. "Okay, yeah sure. Lunch sounds good." She smiled widely. The bus came at that time and Sawyer jumped up from her seat. "I'll see you tomorrow then." She got on the bus and paid her fare before turning to wave at Jay. "Bye Jay! Maybe I'll bring Mr Red and Klaus tomorrow so you can meet them." The door to the bus closed and she chose a seat near the window and waved at Jay until she couldn't see him.
