Her dad had called today. He'd called right in the middle of her French class and she'd had to duck out to take the call. The teacher hadn't been pleased to say the least, but what was she supposed to do? Her dad was in prison...it wasn't like he had a choice about when he got to call. They told him when he could make calls and he did. Whatever. Stupid teachers.
Delia missed her dad. She knew that he was rightfully in prison...that he'd actually been guilty of everything he'd been accused of...but still, he was all she really had. Her mom had ditched out when she was little and she had no idea where to find her... Her cousin's were okay. Ella had even snuck some cookies into her book bag which had made Delia smile when she saw them. She wished that Ella and Casey hadn't already graduated. She wished that she knew someone starting out in a new school.
She'd taken the long way home. She didn't feel like going there yet. Her cousins were great but there was just something about it...like they were being too nice or something. Delia was probably just being critical of the situation. She'd stopped her car by the pier in Santa Monica. She'd heard about it but she'd never been there. She saw there was a lot by it and even succumbed to the overpriced $10 fee to park there. Oh well.
Getting out of her car, she stuffed what was left of her cookie stash in her purse figuring it wouldn't hurt to have something to snack on. She walked down the crowded pier sort of just looking around and taking everything in. Her long dark hair was down and blew every which way in the wind and she hugged her body as her navy blouse was short sleeved and the ocean breeze was cool. Still, she kept walking making it all the way to the very end of the pier where there was nothing but people fishing off it. Delia had no interest in fishing but she liked that it was quieter here.
She walked to a sort of empty area and leaned against the pier, staring out into the ocean. She pulled the cookies out of her purse and started to snack on one as she felt someone come stand beside her. "Hungry?" she asked, holding up a cookie without looking at them.
