Astor inhaled the scent of paint. No, she was not trying to high, it was just that smelling the paint was much more pleasant than the scent of burgers wafting throughout the diner. Astor was starving, but being Astor, she was attempting not to give in and eat. Today had been her first day of high school and to say it had went well was a gross overstatement. She supposed it hadn't gone awful...no one had teased or bothered her...but no one had really talked to her either. So here she was after school, in the diner her mother owned working on her mural there instead of waiting tables and the cars that drove in like she was supposed to. Her hair was still back in a low ponytail and she'd rolled up the legs of her paint splattered jeans. Her plain white tee was nothing if boring and really she couldn't have looked more plain in her mind. She was still angry at herself for not wearing the outfit she'd wanted to wear to school...the outfit that had screamed attention. But she'd chickened out and ended up blending into the background as usual. "Astor! The table outside needs their order!" her mother called walking over to where Astor was in the back. Astor hated working at her mother's diner, however he mother forced her to since she was jealous that Astor actually worked at her father's place willingly. But her father owned a small clothing design company! It was much more exciting that serving people gross burgers that her mother ate too many of and then would go get liposuction all the time because of. But the mural was her one saving grace. At least painting the mural was fun. "You're not in your uniform," he mother commented when she finally saw Astor sitting on the floor painting. She was supposed to be wearing a full on 50s outfit that included a poodle skirt. "No matter. At least put your roller skates on before you go out there. The food's getting cold! Hurry up." "Okay," Astor said with a small sigh. She pushed herself off the ground and slipped on her skates, tying them loosely as she skated to the counter and grabbed the burger and fries for the person at the outside table. The diner had both indoor as well as outdoor seating and an area where cars could actually drive up and be served. Heading outside, one of the laces of her skate came undone, only she realized it too late. "Ah!" she let out a small yell as she literally skated into the table in order to stop herself from falling. She plopped herself down on one of the chairs at that table before she was able to place the food onto the table without completely falling over. Luckily none of the food ended up on the ground, but she'd still embarrassed herself greatly.... "Sorry," she said making a face. "My skate came undone..." she trailed off, her cheeks turning pink as she felt incredibly stupid. Tags any

Vasilia loved this place, the atmosphere of it and all. She loved the outfits and eveyrthing the waitresses and all wore, it was truely like a step back in time. She had ordered two burgers and a big order of fries and a extra large chocolate shake. She was sitting outside since it was nice and was working on her homework. She had to keep up with her studies so she could stay in sports, sports were her true passion. The more and more she does them she would love to be a professiona runner or professional vollyball player. She was reading over the chapter she needed to read in science and was taking notes in her science notebook.
She looked up when she felt her waitress hit the table. She looked at her concerened and hoped she was okay. "It is cool no harm no foul. Are you okay?" she asked the girl. She stuck a piece of paper to mark where she was in her the book and shut both that and the notebook. "It looked like you hit hard" she said. She knew what it was like being injuired. Being a jock she had plenty of injuries over the years. She got a smell of the food and smiled, it smelled excellent like usual.
"If you need to hang out a moment" she said. "I have to ask, since I have wondered this. How is it waitressing in roller skates? To be honest I think it is neat to come her and see everyone in poodle skirts and roller skates, it is one of the reasons it is my favorite places."

"Thanks," Astor said, glad that the girl was nice about it. She leaned down and tied her skate up, making it tight this time as she listened to the older girl go on and on about how much she loved this place. Astor hated it here, but she supposed she had to be nice and no scare away the customers.
"Well, I run into a lot of tables," she said when the girl asked how it was doing it in skates. She was having a hard time pretending to be enthusiastic. "Yeah...I guess its cool if you don't work here," Astor said, glad that she was sans poodle skirt today. Her jeans and T-shirt were much more comfortable after all.
"Yeah, my mom owns this place," Astor admitted, surprised the girl had ordered so much food. She was so skinny after all. Sure, Astor was skinny too but she didn't eat...much. She ate just not a lot.
"It's good you like it here so much though. My mom will be happy to hear that," she said, twirling a loose strand of her hair that had fallen out of her ponytail. "Ummm can I get you anything else?" she asked, not sure what else to say. She knew she was a pretty crappy waitress.

"Ah I would feel the same way about fathers businesses if I had to work in them" Lissa said honestly to her. "I mean I don't think many teenagers want to work for their parents, if they do they are rare. I mean I am not going to work for my father when I graduate. I am hoping to get on a professional sports team like vollyball or track team" she told her. "So I get where you are coming from" she said to her honestly. She reached over and took a bite of her first burger and smiled at the taste of it. "I know you don't like working here but the burgers are damn good" she said with a smile and a laugh. She took a suck through the straw of her chocolate milkshake.
"I just need some mayonaise to dip my fries in" she glanced at the big pile of fries. She wondered how often they got request for fries to be dipped into mayonaise, she knew it grossed some people out. She waited for her to come back before digging into her fries. "So if you could work anywhere else but here where would it be?" she asked her curiously. She noticed the paint splatters on the clothes and she figured she was into art or something.

It had probably been two hours since Bennett entered the diner and made himself at home with the pile of books that were open on his booth table. The 50's themed diner wasn't filled with people so he thought it was safe for him to occupy a lot of space at the back near the door that led to the kitchen. It was the safest and most obscure spot in the whole diner because it got him an interrupted view of Astor Young going in and out of the kitchen and the diner to serve customers on her skates but it was a perfect spot for him not to be noticed by anybody. He'd been coming to Mel's Diner for a few months already mostly because of the pretty blonde but he did like the burger and shakes. The fries were a little too soggy for his taste but then again he wasn't a big fan of fries so it wasn't much of a loss for him. But mostly because of the pretty blonde who had yet to serve him. He had tried to work up his courage to talk to her for some time but every time he talked himself into it, he pulled back. It would be way too stalkerish to say: "Hey, so I've been doubling up my weight with your burgers and spending my allowance on your shakes just so I can see you for a few hours." So he just kept quiet most of the time, burying his head in his books while stealing a couple of glances at her when he was sure she wasn't looking. "Hey Benny boy, your fifth shake tonight...you sure you won't get brain freeze?" One of the waitresses, Cammie, who always ended up serving him and so knowing him to be a regular, grinned and pushed some books to make room for his tall glass of strawberry milkshake. She was a nice lady who treated him like her little brother. Bennett liked her. "I'm pretty sure the shakes are not the ones giving me a brain freeze." He replied with a little lop-sided grin. Cammie didn't know of his little infatuation with Astor so she just chuckled, ruffled his already messy hair and picked up his empty glass and rolled away. He stole a glance at Astor one more time before sipping his shake. [OOC: Just wanted to establish Bennett here so you need not reply ]

"I work for my dad too," Astor said, much more proud about that, "but that's by choice." Astor liked her dad better than her mom. Her mom hated him because he was gay but Astor loved him cause he was awesome. Unlike her mother, her father was not critical of her in the least. He also would do anything for her and would make sure she got everything she wanted. Sure Astor loved her mother but it was more of that because she was family thing, not because she actually liked being around her.
"That's cool," she said when the other girl mentioned sports. Astor really had no interest in sports. She wasn't really athletic at all, but she sort of always wished she was so she could still appreciate the desire.
"Well, thanks," she said when the girl complimented the burgers. Astor never ate them but she usually just took the compliments on the food and pretended she had when they were given. "Mayo it is," she said, "be right back. She skated back inside, this time more stable now that she'd tightened her skates.
"What do you need, kid?" Cammie asked. The other waitress who was much older was always super nice to Astor. She also covered for her when she tried to hide instead of doing work which Astor totally appreciated.
"Mayo," Astor said with a sigh. "And to get out of here. What time is it?" she asked, as she glanced at the clock, defeating the purpose of asking. "Good...my dad should be here soon. It's sushi night," she said with a smile. Her dad loved taking her out to dinner only Astor didn't much like eating. Sushi was something she requested often cause she could get away with eating a few pieces of sushimi and claim she was full.
"Aren't you lucky," Cammie said before skating off to give some kid who came here all the time a milkshake. Astor recognized him as a regular but didn't know who he was and never thought much of it. Cammie had taken a liking to him and always went to serve him when he came in. Minding her own business, Astor skated back behind the counter and grabbed a container of mayo...the kind with a squeezy top that could just be squeezed out of the bottle like ketchup. With that in her hand, she skated back outside, placing the bottle on the girl's table.
She smiled at the girl's question. Astor wasn't really used to anyone talking to her when she served them or even taking an interest in her at all. "I like working for my dad," she said. "He's a fashion designer. It's not like a huge label anyone's really heard of but he has a lot of things in high end boutiques. Its much more fun than serving burgers," she said. "What about you...you have a job?" she asked, figuring that the girl seemed nice and making conversation would waste time and she could get away without working much.

"I am glad I got a job as a waitress so I know exactly how it feels to deal with some people or be frustrated with a place" Lissa smiled at the girl. "I am sure it is more fun to work with your dad he sounds like a cool person to work for, and a job in fashion is very cool" she said after she ate some more of her burger and ate some of her fries. "I just realized I never introduced myself I am Vasilisa Remington but you can call me Lissa" she said to her. She took a sip from her milkshake. "I might even have some of your dads stuff and not know it yet. I admit I do have a big closet I keep full" she said with a laugh and a smile.
"You are lucky you don't have pervy men here" she said. "I work at a steakhouse that has a bar so on game nights they get rowdy and some drink to much and you learn to go around handsy men and avoid them like the plauge" she laughed. "Of course I can get into some of the games espically if it is New York playing" she grinned. "I couldn't imagine serving there in skates of course it could help in kicking guys where it hurts when they don't back off" she said with a smirk.
She quickly finished off the first burger and half the fries and began working on the second. She knew she was eating a lot and hoped she did not look like some pig. "I hate to say it after all this I am going to get desser then" she grinned. "That is a plus being a jock it is good to eat a lot of calories since we burn them off quick. But I am sure you perfer food from else where" she said. She could tell the girl did not like this place at all from the way she talked.

"Well, its nice to meet you," Astor said, "it's probably about time since you come here a lot. I'm Astor," she said. She nodded when Lissa said that she might have some of her dad's clothes. Astor had some of them for sure and better yet, she had some of her owns - things she'd designed and her dad had had made for her. However, being so self-conscious Astor really only wore those clothes walking around her house. Once it was time to actual leave, her nerves tended to get the best of her and she'd go back to her comfort zone which consisted on paint splattered clothes that were always a size too big for her body.
Astor wasn't sure what to say when the other girl mentioned pervy men. Still being very young, and looking pretty young, Astor didn't really get hit on a ton. After all, she'd only just turned 14 over the summer. "I must admit that I don't really follow sports," Astor said. Neither of her parents had much of an interest in them so Astor had never really developed one. "That's cool that you get to do that though," she said, watching as the girl devoured her first burger.
The smell of the food turned Astor's stomach. She was just so hungry...but she couldn't eat. Burgers went straight to your thighs...her mom was proof of that, not that anyone would know. The liposuction too care of any imperfections. But Astor wasn't allowed to be like that. She'd be scolded if she even entertain the idea of eating a fry. So she'd trained herself not to eat around her mother and soon enough it became not really eating much of anything around anyone or even when she was alone. But Astor covered up her eating disorder easily, lying about food allergies and factious big meals she had...all disguising the fact that she really wasn't eating all that much of anything.
"It's alright," Astor said with a smile, envying Lissa, who seemed to eat so much without regard and without gaining weight. "I can get you the menu if you want to look at dessert," she offered. The diner's desserts weren't anything spectacular or fancy but they had a lot of old style sundaes and banana splits...root beer floats...those sorts of things.
