Kristina hurried into the lunch room and avoided touching anyone. She made a fool out of herself early having screamed and jumped when a guy brushed against her by accident in the library. She made up some lame excuse that she did not see him and was just startled. She got in line between two girls, she has been relaxed when in the vicinty of a girl in front and on both sides and the back of her during class, she got nervous when a guy was in any of those spots. She wondered as she stood in line how many of the guys here were like Johnathan. Sure there were some cute guys but she knew behind good looks can lurk a monster. And normally to her now the better looking they are the more likely they are to have a monster they hide from others. She got her food which was a slice of pizza and a diet coke. She carried her tray to a table int he cornor that no one else was at and sat down.
She began to eat her pizza quietly hoping, but also not hoping someone would notice her. She wants to make frineds but she is scared of it all at the same time. If she makes friends they will want to know about her and stuff, and many thing she just can not tell by her choice. So she sat there her bag by her side in case she had the urge to bolt, and watched everyone while she ate.

Zane cautiously moved through the cafeteria. He hadn't grown an inch over the summer, he was still at the same 5'3" height. This always made him an easy for the jocks and other bullies that seemed to haunt the halls of the school.
This was one of those days.
The morning was fine until a few minutes before lunch and some guy grabbed the brown bag Zane was carrying. The lunch contents got juggled around till Zane pushed the guy who took the lunch. The guy didn't take kindly to it and smashed it into small pieces.
Zane looked at the mess sadly. There went the olive loaf sandwich, an orange, and the Little Debbie Nutty Bar, now a pile of goo.
He went through the line and got a slice of pizza and the usual assorted items for a meal. He scouted for a table and saw a girl sitting alone at one. Timidly he approached her.
"E-excuse me, ma-may I sit with you?"

Kristina had been looking down at a book and her eyes shot up when she heard a guy speaking. She did not register that he was stuttering or anything which would mean he was also nervous. She just heard the male tember in his voice and her body went rigid. She bit her lower lip wanting to say no but she looked him over carefuly. Her eyes scanned him from head to toe slowly thinking the whole time. She finally made her decision glad that this was a large table and he would be on the other side and not near her. Sure he didn't like evil but you never knew and she was not taking the chance of him sitting that close to her.
"Okay you can sit over there on that side" she said softly. She hoped that did not sound supisous or have it make him ask questions. "I just don't like being crowded being new and all I need to get use to things" she added as a explination about why she said on the other side of the table. But of course it was a lie, she has become a expert lying since she had lied from the beginng that Johnathan was a nice guy. She saw the anger in him when they first started to date but ignored it, and ignored her friends and some family or warned her about it, she just made up some a excuse or lie like he was tired or stressed and said he was always nice to her, which was a major lie.
When he sat down she went back to eating. She didn't know how to talk to a guy one that even seems nice. She had idly noticed him being picked on before she had picked up her book. But she couldn't sympathize with him, her emotions were so numb and she just could not. Sure she knew it was not right but she can't just reach out and be all friendly and smily that is not who she is anymore. She does not deserve to have friends and she figured maybe Johnathan was right, no that isn't true her mind screamed at her, even across the country he was still in her head controling her thoughts and everything. "I.. I saw what happened that guy was a jerk" she said in a soft tone still.

Zane smile slightly and nodded. "Of course, I understand." He set his tray down and took a seat across from her, hardly looking up. "Thank you, I appreciate this." He picked up his fork and cut his pizza in bite size pieces, at first in quiet.
The girl seemed all right but had that aurora that something wasn't quite right. He figured it wasn't in his nature to be nosy, after all it wasn't his business.
He looked up when she spoke, his eye brows rising making him look younger than he was. "That was nothing, I've had worse done." He slowly took a drink of his tea. "As Piglet says 'Its hard to be brave when your a small creature.'" Another slight smile appeared then disappeared.

Kristina listened to the boy speaking not saying a word the whole time. She was not talkative anymore, she felt like being alone was best for her. But clearly this guy knew what it was like to be bullied by someone bigger and stronger then him. She ate her food and only glanced at him quickly. She learned to only glance at someone that is not Johnathan. Even now she could not stop that habit. Before if she even looked at a guy for longer then a second he called her names or hit her. She still could feel his fist hitting her flesh and flinched even now. She hoped the boy did not notice but if he said anything she would say she just got a twinge of pain in her arm or somethign of the like. Which is totally believable.
First rule of survial is learn to make up the right lies, the ones that people believe. That way they don't know what is really going on. She ate some more of her food have listening to the guy speak. "Being small is a disadvantage" she said matter of factly. She figured to not put to much emotion behind things, and to keep her guard up and walls up around her emotions and she would be good. She would be sane and normal then.
"So um tell me about this school" she asked in a quiet voice. "I don't know alot about it" she said. That can keep him talking for a long time, and she does not have to say anything the whole time. Which was something that she wanted to happened.
