The waves were freaking awesome. Lunch was perfect. Katie ate for fifteen minutes and could spend at least twenty maybe thirty surfing. She might be late to her last class, but she didn't really care. Any chance to catch waves was alright in her book and must not be missed. Besides surfing had a calming effect and actually helped Katie concentrate more, believe it or not. So why miss the chance. Katie drove to the beach and sat down. Should she be driving? Probably not seeing as though she had her permit, but her parents were mot home and the car was just sitting there.
Katie stopped at the beach and sat on the hood of her jeep as she ate her food. Now normally you did not surf after eating. No one did, so Katie was still debating on the surfing, but she wanted to. The question was, was it worth it? Once she started she could claim she would surf for thirty minutes, but she knew she would end up missing her last class, and she was actually trying not to skip class.
Katie sighed as she just laud on the hood of her car for now until another car seemed to pull up, someone else youngish seemed to get out and she smirked, "Looks like I was not the only one with this idea."

Ben normally didn't surf in the middle of the day. He normally was more likely to get up early and go surfing in front of his house before school. It was just easier and required less effort on his part, and let's face it, Ben was a guy who always took the easy way out. The less effort he had to put into a situation, the better as far as he was concerned.
But the blonde boy didn't feel like sticking around school for lunch and for some reason he found himself driving toward the beach. Sure he had a surfboard and a wet suit in his car, but then again he always did. Those were his spare, just in case stuff. But still, he wasn't really planning on stopping by the beach to surf. He was pretty sure he was more interested in some of the lunch options he could get by the beach. Or maybe he was just heading home and taking the afternoon off. To be honest, he wasn't sure, he didn't really have a plan of action.
But as he drove along PCH, looking out at the ocean he spotted a brunette getting out of her jeep. It couldn't be.... Could it? Compelled to find out, Ben parked his own jeep next to hers along the side of the road and got out to get a better look. He grinned when she assumed he'd be surfing. That, and the nonchalant greeting as if they hadn't known one another forever. Still, it had been awhile...at least a year...maybe longer...
"Wow, Katie Martinez," he said. "When the hell did you get back?"

Katie turned at the familiar voice, "Benny boy, long time no talk." She slid off the hood of her jeep and walked over to hug him. She smiled as she brushed some hair from her face and took a few steps back. "I got back this summer. Would have called but I wasn't sure you were still alive." She joked. "barely heard from you and your sister." Not that it was not her fault either. Odds are she had forgotten to send a few texts along the way. However, she was laughing about it. This is what she did. She left for a bit and came back. same old, same old.
"But I am back for good. My dad got injured so he is taking off this whole year." Finally a year with out traveling. Yes. Katie was actually looking froward to not transferring schools, again. She was back home and back where she loved to be. "So tell me whats going on with you? do you still need help with your moves, cause the offer still stands for me to show you how to actually surf." Katie said immediately falling back into her routine of teasing Ben.
She looked at the beach and back at Ben, "Killer waves. I was thinking of riding this afternoon, but I need to make it to my last class for a review for a test. Damn school for cramping my style. Wheres the twin?"

"Yeah, well we haven't exactly heard from you either," Ben said with a shrug. He honestly hadn't thought it was a big deal. That's how it usually went...Katie went off traveling and they'd lose touch for a bit and see one another when she returned and just pick up from where they left off. Although perhaps it had been longer this time.
"Oh really?" Ben asked when she said she was back for good and explained her dad's injury. "I did hear he got hurt but I didn't know it was that bad," he said. "I'm sorry to hear he was hurt, but it will be nice to have you around for the year," he said, pushing some of his blonde hair out of his eyes. It seemed as if even though he'd just gotten it trimmed before the start of school that it was already falling into his eyes.
"Yeah right," he said, "I mean, if you want me to teach you how to surf, all you had to do was ask," he teased back easily. "The waves do look pretty good right now. I was just going to get food to be honest but it is tempting," he said giving her a look when she mentioned the test. "Review for a test on the first day of school? What classes are you taking?" he asked. He supposed maybe honors or AP classes would start that early but usually the first day was easy. Or maybe it was a test on summer reading books or something. Ben probably had one of those coming up himself, although he hadn't read any of the books on the list over the summer.
"Eden's at school, I guess, probably with Izzy or something," he said guessing again, not sure what his twin was up to. To say they had grown apart was an over statement as they were still pretty close, but over the last year they had grown more independent of one another than they had been.

"Thats what my teacher says. Practice tests at least one a week. Something to get us prepared for her exam. Damn advance classes. Its my Lit class. since when did a lit class give tests every damn week." To be honest Katie wasn't sure about her schedule. She had been put in classes and had only really picked her electives. Not that it was a bad thing, but you know, it did kind of suck. But she did only register like a month ago. Katie just shrugged. "Its not that bad I guess. Doesn't count for nothing just for practice. Thats good I guess."
Katie looked at the waves then her stomach, "Food sounds good. I forgot about the whole needing to eat thing. care if I join you?" Although she wasn't really giving him the option, she was going to join him even if he didn't want her too. "As for classes, if I said I can't remember would you hold it against me. I think I have my schedule some where in my bag.
She searched and pulled out the crumpled piece of paper. "No wonder I kept walking into the wrong class. I am use to Gould. This new school is big, too big." But that was the point. She was no longer a Gould student, but a Gould Silver student. It was just weird. "What have I missed since I left?" She wondered. She had been gone a while and she always missed something. "You seeing anyone? Eden seeing anyone?"

Ben laughed, "That sucks. I'm not gonna lie I took mostly easy classes this year. The only semi-hard ones are just whatever I need to graduate," he said with a shrug. Ben had never been the most studious of people. He made okay grades but with no plans to further his education in college he'd never really cared about anything but passing and getting through high school. Ben grinned when she admitted it was just for practice, "Well, if its just practice, you don't have to be there," he teased, although he knew that on the first day teachers tended to be more harsh about skipping. It was like all the rules were strict in the beginning and would slowly get more and more lenient as the year went on.
Ben laughed again when she said she forgot she needed to eat. "Come on, I can drive you then we can swing back and pick up your car on the way back," he offered, "honestly I only stopped cause I saw you and I thought my eyes were playing tricks on my. Someone didn't tell me they were coming back." Ben had known Katie since he was a little kid. Her dad was a pro surfer and when Ben and Eden had started to get into the sport when they were kids their mom had arranged an introduction which her publicist had set up. Katie was younger than Ben and Eden but they'd hang out anyway, mostly just surf together.
"Yeah it is weird but we were combined for a lot of last year so at least there is more room now with all the renovations. Last year was pretty crazy crowded since I don't think they were prepared for it all," Ben said with a shrug. "Eh, you haven't missed too much," Ben said, okay that was an understatement considering all the drama last year between the shooting and the school merges and Eden and Jett secretly dating and all of the rest. "Nah, I'm not seeing anyone right now," he said, shaking his head. He'd finally lost his virginity to Sloane last year and they'd hooked up two more times but then it had sort of fizzled which Ben didn't really mind, since he hadn't expected it to turn into anything anyway. "Eden was seeing Jett for awhile actually, they were sort of on and off last year..." Ben trailed off, "but he actually was in a car accident over the summer. He's been going through a lot. It sucks. He still can't completely walk. I think Eden's been really freaking out about that cause she'll hang out with Izzy but has been avoiding Jett." He shrugged again. "The whole thing is crazy," he said shaking his head. "But what have you been up to with all the traveling and stuff?" he asked, "Where exactly have you been anyway?"

"Is that an invitation?" Katie smirked when ben said the comment about not needing to show up. "You always had a way of making things sound more appealing. How can I refuse to skip after you make it seem like such fun." She smiled and reached into her car to grab her purse and her keys. It was a jeep, who would steal it, but just in case. "Wait, you do have a driver's license right, none of this crazy driving that will have me kissing the ground when you are done..." Katie said laughing. "Okay Benny boy show me around this place?" She asked laughing some more.
Of course Katie knew LA, but she joked about always leaving to go on tour with her dad and stuff. So she joked that she didn't know LA. Just a friendly joke. Nothing serious, and something to laugh about. "My dad thought it would be funny for me to take a few hard classes. He says I need to put my on the road education to good use. I told him he needed to learn how to spell the word education." Katie continued joking. Her dad's injury was serious, but being home, was nice. Katie was actually looking forward to being in one place for a long time.
"Jett, I heard his and Izzy's mother died. Poor guy. He is in a wheelchair right?" She assumed so. Yeah thats hard. Must be hard on Eden too." Katie could not imagine a boyfriend, or ex boyfriend in a wheelchair. "Must have been some bad car accident." She commented. Katie nodded when Ben said he was single. So was she of course, "Good I am not the only one i the singles club. I have someone to hang out with, without risk of interrupting something. You know me, I have horrible timing sometimes." Katie tended to walking in without knocking or calling and always seemed to be interesting times.
"I was in Fiji for a bit. A competition and some advertising and stuff, then it was off to Key West and finally in Hawaii this when he had his accident." She said. "So my dad thought what better place the recoup then back here in LA."

Ben laughed. "Not really, I plan to go back after lunch," he said. "No need to piss off the teachers by skipping on the first day. I can do that later," he said with a smirk. Ben wasn't really a smart ass kid. He wasn't the type to give the teachers a hard time intentionally. He was just a slacker and that slacking sometimes turned into getting too high at lunch to make it to his afternoon classes. However, do that on the first day and he'd be condemned all year. He at least somewhat knew how to play the game. "And of course I have my license. Do you? You're the young one here," he pointed out. After all Ben was a senior...okay a young senior. He'd still be 16 for a few more months, but for some reason his parents had started him and Eden early in school...probably so they'd be the same year as Izzy, even though the probably should have been a year behind.
"Oh right," Ben said heading back around his car to get into the drivers seat. "Cause you're new here, huh? So what will it be? The Hollywood sign first?" he asked picking the mostly touristy thing in the city and knowing that he had no intention of going there. Ben didn't really like being in Hollywood. He usually avoided it if he could because it was over crowded and really not all that nice anyway. Sure the people who lived in the Hollywood Hills had it made but the rest of Hollywood...not so great.
"Yeah, I'm glad my parents don't really care. I mean they say they want us to finish high school but I bet if we dropped out, they wouldn't even care," Ben said with a laugh. His parents were the poster parents for apathy and the older Ben and Eden got the less and less they bothered with them. He waiting for Katie to get into the passenger's seat and buckle up before starting up the car and beginning to drive, still not completely sure where he was going.
"Yeah...last year" Ben said solemnly when she mentioned Jett and Izzy's mom. "It was sort of a freak thing. It's been a rough year for them I guess," he said. "Yeah...I don't know. I mean I wasn't there...I just know a drunk driver was involved that wasn't Jett. Totally changed me though. I never really drove drunk but I used to drive high all the time. Now I'll just wait around till I don't feel it anymore to drive or I'll just call a cab or something and go back and pick my car up later." Eden was the same way. It seemed that if nothing else the accident had forced a tiny bit of maturity and responsibility into the twin's lives.
"That sounds pretty sick. I was in Hawaii a bit over the summer. I didn't realize you were there or I would have met up. I was in Maui mostly," he said. "Oh, perfect," he added, spotting a tiny but delicious Taco place that he'd sort of forgotten about. "Found lunch," he grinned, pulling into the parking lot.

"Rub it in you are two years ahead. So mean. You should be one year, one year ahead, not two. I think you paid someone off." Katie said jokingly. It was such a ridicuous joke that it had her cracking up actually. "And yes I have my license. Or else I would not have my fabulous jeep. But...if I did admit to just having my permit, would you tell on me...cause that would not be nice at all..." Katie tried to playfully pout but she ended up laughing aznd getting into Ben's car buckling up.
"Does it still sit high above in the hills screaming vandalize me?" She asked. "The only good thing about the Hollywood sign is going up there and smoking. It has a kick ass view. Like little ants marching long when you lood down at the world from there." Katie commented. She had done that only once or twice, but you came up with wird things when high, "It's safe to say we can pass, just in case you were serious." She smirked as she playfully bumped his shoulder.
"Glad you play it safe.I tend to pass out where ever I am smokingand wake p later feeling okay enough to drive, but yeah, taxi's a good idea or calling a friend." She would not call her parents. They would flip out on her and not in a good way. She would be grounded for life. "Kona. He was in Kona." Katie said, "I guess I should not have lost my phone." She chuckled. "THis just gives me a reason to keep in touch with you more. You asked for it now, I am a texting fiend now. Finally learned the great advantages of modern technology." She said looking at the taco place. "Alright, lets get some food."

Ben grinned. "Maybe Eden and I are just both geniuses and we never told you," he teased, knowing very well that he was young for his grade but not minding one bit. He was glad he'd be finished with school sooner. "Just your permit huh...I don't know I might have to involve the authorities in this one he quipped although it was evident that he didn't actually care. It wasn't as if she'd get in trouble. If she got caught maybe her parents would be called but that was probably the extent of it.
Ben laughed when she asked about the Hollywood sign, "Probably," he said, "haven't been there in awhile." You could hike up there but you had to jump a fence if you wanted to get close. Ben had only done it twice before but the second time the alarm had gone off and while he hadn't been caught, he hadn't been back since. "There are other places you can go if you want to see ant sized people," he said. "My dad's house is in the hills of Malibu and the people on the beach look like ants from there," he said with a smile.
"Yeah. I mean I guess I was stupid before. The whole thing just sucks," he shrugged as he pulled into the parking lot. "Kona...you know I've never been anywhere but Maui. Probably should check out the rest of it as some point he said as he parked his car. "Man, I'm starving," he commented, "we better eat quick though so we can get back to school before we end up being ridiculously late," he commented, not that he cared usually but he was still on his don't piss off the teachers on the first day kick.
