It was indeed early and Ben didn't want to get out of bed, however that was most mornings. But the surf was best in the morning and it didn't take much of that salt water smell wafting through his window to get him out of bed. He made it to the bathroom to brush his teeth, not bothering with showering. He'd worry about that later.
He changed out of the boxers and T-shirt he was wearing and into a wet suit. Although the weather in LA was quickly becoming warm and turning into the weather of summer, the ocean water was still cold. Sure, there'd probably be more time out of the water than in the water today as he was teaching Felipe, but he still planned to hit some waves, even if it was after the other boy left.
He heard the door and walked into the living room, grabbing his bong on the way. There stood Eden, in her prom dress from the night before, her makeup was smudged and hair a mess as she'd only just been dropped off.
"I'm so beat," Eden said. "Make coffee?" she asked as she walked barefoot toward her room, holding the heels she'd worn the night before in her hand. Ben nodded and put the coffee on, hitting the bong while he waited for it.
Eden made it to the bathroom and washed her face, scrubbing off the makeup so she didn't look like a complete train wreck. She then changed into her own wetsuit and pulled her hair back into a messy bun so it would be out of her way in the water. When she made it back to the living room the coffee was ready and Eden grabbed a cup as her brother continued to smoke up. Eden was too tired to smoke right now.
The twins had told Felipe to come to their house for the surfing lesson. The Patridge household sat right on the beach, and it was often where the twins surfed in the morning as it was easier than trying to coordinate driving to a different stretch of beach.
Eden was finishing off her coffee as the doorbell rang. And Ben got up and headed to the door, opening it up and smiling at Fel. "Hey, you made it," he said. "Not too tired from prom? We have coffee if you are. I know Eden's pretty sleepy," he admitted, motioning for the other boy to come inside and shutting the door behind him. "Like I said we have wetsuits and surfboards you can borrow," he said as he led the boy into the kitchen area where his sister was.

The evening before had finished a little earlier than expected with Felipe taking LizBeth back to her home. During the drive he mulled over how best to break the news but finally decided there was only one way to handle it. He went inside with her to have a coffee and as they shared their drink he'd told her.
He was breaking up.
It hadn't worked out. The mood swings... jealousy... possessiveness. None of it felt right to him.
He'd lain awake for a fair deal of the night, the situation still on his mind but - deep down - he knew he'd done the right thing...
* * *
Felipe was up early the following morning, keen to get out of the house and do something to take his mind off LizBeth. His surfing lesson with eden and Ben would do precisely that and so he headed over to the Patridge house in decent spirits. If that aura was slightly forced then perhaps he had good reason.
He threw Ben a grin when the other boy opened the door. "Wouldn't miss this for the world," he replied. "Obrigado... A coffee would do very nicely right now," he added and he trailed after Ben into the kitchen area.
"Good morning Eden," he added. "Looks like you didn't get much sleep last night," he added with a wink. He sipped some of his coffee as he spoke. Hopefully her Prom had gone better than Felipe's. That said, anyone's probably had!
"Are you guys sure you want to do this today? We can leave it for another morning if you are feeling tired. Really... Any time is great with me!"

Ben smiled when Felipe seemed to be genuinely excited to learn how to surf. A surfing enthusiast such as himself always got excited when he found other people that shared his passion. Making his way to the kitchen he grabbed a coffee mug and filled it for Fel. "We have cream and sugar too if you'd like," he offered, handing the coffee to the other boy and motioning to where the fixings were.
"Hey," Eden said giving him a nod. "Yeah it was a late night," she said. "I'll be okay though. I don't drink caffeine so often so a little coffee will go a long way," she told him. "You have fun at prom? I didn't see you much there," she commented but then again she hadn't exactly been looking out for him. Unaware that things had been going south with Liz, Eden had taken to avoiding the boy when Liz was around. Ben didn't even want to ask about prom. As far as he knew Felipe was still dating Liz and Ben preferred to stay away from her. Maybe he didn't hate her quite as much as his sister did, but he still doubted that he'd consider her a friend any time soon even if he easily considered Fel a friend now.
"Today is fine," Ben said. "Unless you're too tired of course. I get up this early every morning to surf...sometimes earlier so its really not a big deal," he said, leaning against the kitchen counter. As usual that Patridge household was a bit of a mess. With a mother who was almost never home it was up to Ben and Eden to keep things in order, which they never did. Usually they'd call a cleaning service or something before their mom would return home and then it would become a mess again once she left.
Eden finished off her coffee already feeling more energized. "Much better," she said. "I'm ready whenever you guys are."

Felipe frowned slightly when Eden asked him about the prom. “I guess it was ok,” he replied. His best friend had left pissed off and he’d broken up with his girlfriend. Nope... didn’t get a whole lot more fun that that! “We... aaah... We broke up last night,” he added. “I guess it just wasn’t working out you know? Sooo... if you have any unattached friends - female ones,” he added with a wink, “... then I’d appreciate an introduction!” Nothing was further from the truth in reality as Felipe needed time to move on from LizBeth but joking around seemed the best way to handle an awkward moment.
“I am also ready,” Felipe declared and he drained the rest of his coffee and followed the pair outside.
The morning was on the cool side - not a shock given the early hour - but it was still pleasant. The breeze was light and the sun was already starting to warm the air. It promised to be a good day... At least, weather-wise. Hopefully his lesson this morning would take his mind off last night... In fact, what better way was there to start the day than an hour or two of fun with a couple of friends?
Having a girlfriend to share it with, of course. Still, Felipe knew he couldn’t have everything! “So... am I going to make a complete idiot out of myself?” he asked on a short laugh. Definitely just what he needed!

Eden's eyes widened when Felipe admitted to breaking up with Liz last night. Ben's did too. "Uh...sorry?" he said a little hesitant to comment. After all the whole Liz thing had been a touchy subject. Even when they did hang out, Ben had avoided talking about her for the most part. After all, he had known that Liz had gone on a date with someone the night before they'd hung out and made out all day, however she'd been the one to make the first move, so he'd assumed the date hadn't gone well until he saw her with Felipe that night and got the real story. Ben had only just met her so he hadn't been all that attached, however, he'd felt bad for Felipe and then after Liz had threatened him and his sister, he decided it was best to stay away from her altogether. "I guess I'll let you know if I think of anyone," he said with a shrug, "I mean you know we weren't the biggest Liz fan but break up still suck. Let us know if you need anything I guess," he said. "Yeah, totally," Eden put in. She was happy that they hopefully wouldn't be seeing her around anymore. "Anyway, let's get to it," she said, with renewed energy she was ready to start. They grabbed their surfboards and headed outside. Fel still needed to change into a wetsuit but the first bit would be out of the water anyway so he could always change later. "Nah, probably not," Eden said when he asked if he'd look like an idiot. "Once you get into the water, you'll probably fall down a few times but its no big. Everyone falls during surfing, even the people that are good," she told him. And it was true even the most skilled surfers still got knocked down by the waves sometimes. "Plus," Ben put in, "the beach here is semi-private so I doubt there will be many people out there to see you fall," he said as he dropped his board on the sand. "We need to start here though so you can practice standing up on the board before we get you into the water," he explained. ooc: for the record, I have no idea how to surf but on TV and stuff I always see people like with boards on the sand practicing laying down on their board and then standing up so I guess that's what you do before getting into the water. I figure we can have them do that for a bit and then have Fel change and catch some waves

(OOC as I know zilch about it either that sounds perfect LOL!)
“Thanks,” Felipe replied to both Eden and Ben’s words of sympathy. He knew no love was lost between them and LizBeth and so he found their support all the more comforting. They set off towards the beach and Felipe spent that time wondering what lay ahead. In spite of Eden assurances he had a inkling he was going to end up looking - and feeling - absolutely ridiculous. Still, he was with his friends so did that really matter? Not to him!
A surfboard was placed on the ground aand Ben dropped down onto his stomach to demonstrate the correct position for paddling the board out to sea. “Your turn...”
So far so good. The paddling part was easy and Felipe soon had that mastered. The standing up, though, was another matter.
“Left foot forward more,” Eden told him. “And arms up higher...”
He was getting there and couldn’t wait to try it out on the water...
“What do you think? Am I ready to give it a shot?” he asked after a half hour of practicing on dry land.

They practiced on the sand for awhile, Ben and Eden both giving him pointers and even doing the motions along with him to show him the right way. Once he asked if he was ready, Ben nodded. Sure, more practice on the sand never hurt but Ben had to admit that he was eager to get out into the water himself. Plus, the best way to learn how to surf was to just go for it in his opinion.
"Sure," he said. "Let's get you into a wetsuit and then we can head out. I mean you could technically just wear your swimsuit but trust me the water will be freezing," he said. Even with the wetsuit the water would be cold but it at least protected you from going into shock or anything like that.
They headed back toward the house, just leaving their surfboards out on the sand, since they knew no one would bother them. Sure sometimes random people ended up on their beach but the entrance to the public was about a mile down so usually the only people out there were the people who lived there or the occasional beach walker.
Ben showed Felipe where the wet suits were and handing him one to change and showing him where he could do so before heading back outside where Eden was waiting on their deck. Once Felipe returned Ben smiled. "Are you ready to hit some waves?" he asked. Surfing was totally the best part of his day.

Oh this was totally far harder than it looked! Felipe lost count of the number of times he was dunked beneath the water. It didn't matter, though, and each of those times he resurfaced, laughing along with his pair of tutors. At last, though, he made a run in with him remaining on his feet.
"YES!" he exclaimed, throwing his hands high... end upending himself into the sea. His board shot forwards, narrowly missing Ben.
"Desculpa," he offered with a wry grin. "But I shall try that again." And again. Three times in a row he made it without falling off. "I shall never be like you and Eden, though," he declared.
Felipe gazed out across the surface of the ocean. It really was beautiful here and more so this early in the morning. In fact, he would have liked to..." What's that?" he asked, pointing out to sea, his thoughts of what he would like to do instantly forgotten. "Is it a boat?" If it was it was drifitng slowly... and towards the rocks that formed the outermost part of the nearby headland. "I can't see anyone on board." He looked back at his two companions. "Should we check it out? Someone might be on it... and hurt." Or worse...
