Kayla was not aware that Amy was flirting with her. Kayla probably would have been a little dense if a boy was flirting with her too although she might recognize that easier because it was more expected. With Amy, flirting wasn't expected. She just thought she was being friendly and she was perhaps so smiley just because. "Yeah, I hear things about her too," Kayla admitted, "but I've never even talked to her or anything. Seen her running." Kayla shrugged. Sloane probably didn't even know who Kayla was anyway.
Really, she hadn't been joking? Was she blind then? Kayla new that she could be considered pretty...but she wasn't pretty in the same way that so many of the girls were and the fact that she was a tomboy and always pulled her hair back...always wore sneakers...rarely wore much makeup...being really quiet...all those things added up to her not exactly being noticed by the opposite sex. Although to Kayla didn't mind that. She'd liked boys before she supposed...although it had always seemed forced...what she was suppose to do. She just felt more comfortable around girls. It felt more natural.
"Yeah, that's fine," Kayla said about the money, "but next junk food pig out is on me...that's all," she grinned as she headed toward an empty table she spotted by the window. She plopped down with the tray in front of her and reached for her juice first, taking a sip. "Yes," she said without hesitation when Amy asked her about hanging out. Kayla was excited that Amy seemed to prefer hanging out with her over going to prom. Did Amy maybe want to kiss her like she'd kissed that other girl? The thought excited Kayla, making her feel hyper and giddy although she didn't want to show how excited she was in case she was wrong...which she probably was. She wondered if maybe she should say something about the kiss she'd witnessed, but instead she just took a bite of her hash brown, too afraid to bring it up.
