The final bell rang, and it found Liz at her locker. The second half of her day was not really a great one. Her morning had been good, feeling pretty damn good about herself really. Not that she needed the ego boost! however, at lunch, she had gone searching for Felipe, and someone had mentioned he had been outside, so she had gone out to find him. Her footsteps had been near silent as she had walked up behind him, seeing him with Abby. She had no problem with him spending time with other girls, she trusted him. It had been hearing him ask Abby to prom that had upset her. Had she done something wrong? Was Felipe planning on breaking up with her for the cheerleader? What had she done?
The thoughts milled around in her head the entire last half of her classes, making it hard for her to focus. She had thought that things had been going well, maybe she was wrong about that? The Brit fought with her locker, eventually getting it open. She threw her books inside, pausing to look in the mirror. Green eyes were sad as she ran her fingers through her hair absently. Forcing herself to stop the mirror nonsense, Liz switched out the books that she would need for her homework, not really looking forward to the walk home. Stupid Spencer still refused to let her drive to school, which she didn't understand. She wasn't arguging with him about staying anymore. She was happy. She had friends, a boyfriend...Liz had settled into a decent enough life here in LA.
She was so into her darkened thoughts that she didn't notice someone at her side.

For once his afternoon had gone well. He'd spent a good hour with Abby, goofing around, and this afternoon he'd had his favourite class. Drama. The lesson had been interesting and lively, making the rest of the afternoon pass quickly. Now, though, he was heading for his locker and to leave his books inside. No homework tonight and he was up to date on anything needed for Friday. His time was his to do with as he wanted.
Perfect!
Maybe a walk on the beach was called for? The pier was always fun in the evening. LizBeth oprobably had homework but he could ask her anyway.
On cue he spotted her walking away from her locker. "Reais for your thoughts, LizBeth," he said with a grin. He knew the saying was 'penny' and not the Brazilian currency but it sounded funnier his way.
"You look lost in them," he added. "Bad afternoon?" Maybe her mouth was still hurting. It was sure to take time to fully heal.

Liz turned, looking up at her Brazilian and quietly regarding him for a moment. Things had been so good, they opened up about everything to each other, which is why she couldn't figure this out. She looked down at the ground for a moment before back up at him. He was grinning, which, as usual, made her heart melt.
"Have I done something wrong?" She asked quietly, leaning against the lockers.
"No. Not at all." He replied with a shake of his head.
"Then why would you ask someone else to prom?" Liz asked him, seeing the confusion in his dark eyes. "I overheard you talking to Abby at lunch...I'd walked up behind you...and heard you ask her." Her voice was quiet, soft and tinged with sadness. "And all day since then, I haven't been able to figure out what I did wrong to make you not take me and want to take someone else.." She looked up at him. "I mean, I thought things were really good with us.." She chewed on her lower lip slightly. "I mean, if you'd rather take Abby to prom since you're both seniors and I'll have another shot next year...." Her voice trailed off.

Felipe narrowed his eyes. "You told me you were busy for lunch," he pointed out. Had he known she would be listening in he would have made sure she heard the rest of his conversation with Abby. The part where he'd made it clear he already had a date.
"Perhaps you should have asked me there and then," he continued. "Instead of making an assumption that had no real truth. You only heard a small part of what was said."
He was annoyed... yes. LizBeth hadn't asked him to clarify until after she'd worried about it all afternoon. "If you prefer not to go with me after this then... it is your decision but the rest of our lunch was spent in finding ways to find Abby a date once we got to the dance. Not me. Someone else. It would seem you only heard the parts that showed me in a negative light. heh?"
By now they were outside. "Want me to drive you home or do you have a ride?" He wasn't sure if Spencer was due to collect her today. Right now he sort of hoped Spencer was outside as he didn't want to get into this any deeper. Felipe felt as if he'd been spied on for some reason. Why hadn't LizBeth told him she was there? None of this would have happened then.

Oh, she didn't like the look on his face, it made her heart clench in her chest. "I finished up in the library quicker then I thought I was going to, which is why I went to find you." She tried explaining, biting her lower lip. "You're right, I should have..I just didn't want to get into some sort of arguement in front of Abby..." Liz looked up at him.
"Fel.." She touched his arm. "I'm sorry..I really am...I'm just..always worried that I'm gonna screw up again with you..and I care too much about you to wanna do that..you know?" Green eyes tried to meet those brown of the Brazilian. "I still wanna go with you, of course I do..I should have told you I was there...and Im sorry..." Liz could feel tears stinging behind her eyes. "We can find Abby someone to go with..there's still..what..2 days? And if not..then we can go as a trio to the dance...pick her up and everything..Abby's a good friend to you..and she should go to her senior prom..regardless of a date or not."
She shook her head. "No, he's not picking me up..I'd appreciate the ride home, I always do..but I can walk if you're that mad at me.." She told him quietly, feeling her stomach tightening up, like something was chewing away at it. Damnit, why did she always screw up with him?

"I can drive you," he stated.
He led the way over to where he'd parked his mother's car. He seemed to be using it more than she did lately so maybe it was time for him to consider getting his own? He'd need it soon when he started at college so over the summer break he'd check around town and see what he could afford. His parents were giving him a graduation gift in the form of money that they told him t o use for a car so he might even be able to get something reasonably decent.
He thought over what LizBeth had just said as they walked to the car. Why would she have gotten into an argument with Abby? Over what? There had been nothing to argue about... had there? He'd simply been trying to help out one of his best friends. Liz would have done the same thing, he felt sure. Maybe he was wrong? Not wrong in helping Abby but wrong in assuming Liz would have done the same thing!
And at least now he had her 'permission' to help his friend. That was something... right?
Felipe pulled open the passenger door. Even irritated like he was right now he couldn't - wouldn't - forget his manners. Hell, they'd been pummelled into him throughout his 17 years!
He waited for her to settle before closing the door and walking around to the far side.
He didn't start the engine straight away and instead sat gripping the wheel in both hands. Was he making a mistake? Perhaps right this moment wasn't the best time to make any sudden decisions. Not while his mood was such as it was.
He snapped in a sharp breath and started the car's engine. A walk later. He'd go for a walk and clear his head. Far better to do that than say something he - and Liz - would regret later.
"How was the rest of your day?" Felipe was pleased with himself for managing to force out that reasonably normal question.

"Thank you." Liz spoke softly when Felipe said he could take her home. She had honestly expected to walk home, even before meeting up with him, so this was good..right?
She did understand why he was trying to help Abby, she really did. Abby was one of his best friends, and Liz had never stood in the way of that. That reason had been part of why she had not stepped forward at lunch. One, she hadn't wanted to interrupt their time together, and two, she hadn't wanted to make him upset in front of his friend. Now, he was just upset at her in private, which would hopefully be less embarrasing for him, right?
He didn't need her *permission* for anything, not at all. She'd overreacted, and this was her fault.
She gave him a soft smile when he opened the car door for her, though she wouldn't have been surprised if his anger at her had overriden his good manners. She settled in quickly, setting her bag at her feet and buckling up easily. She knew, just by looking at him, how upset he was. It hurt...it really did. It hurt her to know that she caused him pain and anger...again. She wanted to cry, but she wouldn't do it here.
"It was alright I guess." She didn't go into her distraction in her later classes, figuring he didn't want to go into the whole thing right now. Felipe was a good guy, and she was very lucky to have someone like him in her life, and she knew he cared about her.
"Yours?" She asked. "Up till 10 minutes ago I mean..cause I know how that is..and I'm sorry..."

"Drama class was good," he replied. "But P.E. sucked. We didn't even get a football out. It was a waste of an hour that could have been spent playing football." He frowned slightly. She probably would think it was over the P.E. class. LizBeth was right in saying his day hadn't been too bad until he'd run into her at the lockers.
The silence stretched out between them for a good few minutes and then they both spoke at the same time.
"You first," Felipe said.
"No, you," Liz instantly answered.
"All I was going to say was that I have to do some stuff for my mom this evening and it looks like you have some homework to get done..." At least, if her bulging book-bag was any indication. Also it was probably a good idea to take a break for the evening. That way he would hopefully get over being pissed with her that much quicker. "... so I can't see us having a chance to meet up."
It seemed he was constantly having to get over being pissed at her. If he was honest he knew he could count those times on the one hand... On just the two fingers really... But right now it felt like 'always'.
"What were you going to say?" he finished.

Liz smiled softly, glad that Del had had a good Drama class. He seemed to really like that particular class. "Glad drama was good, sucks about PE though..for you anyway..me..I'd be happy with not having to toss an American football around.."
She chewed on her lower lip during the silence, looking out the car window quietly, turning to him after a few moments. they both spoke at the same time. Felipe asked her to go first, and Liz instantly replied for him to go ahead.
She nodded in agreement that she had homework, some of tiwas the stuff she had missed earlier in the week with her dental appointment, so she needed to get fully caught back up before Spencer freaked on her.
This was only the 2nd time that she'd had Felipe that upset at her, which for her, was actually pretty damn good. Liz used to love tweaking people just the right way, but not him. She HATED making Felipe mad, it was one of the worst feelings ever. Hopefully, by the time morning came around, he wouldn't be upset anymore with her.
"I was gonna say the same thing..homework.." She smiled sheepishly. "I need to get back on track from missing class this week.." Liz looked over at him, giving him one of her softer smiles.

When he'd mentioned football Felipe hadn't meant the American kind but what they called soccer in teh States. He didn't have the energy to correct her, though, but he seriously disliked American football! No way would he want to spend an hour playing that.
Felipe nodded. "Ok... then we'll skip this evening. I will probably go for a walk later anyway. Rufio will be wanting to get out of the house..." As would his owner.
Felipe pulled up at the front of LizBeth's home and he could see Spencer waiting in the open doorway. The Brazilian boy lifted a hand and waved at the man who returned the gesture in the same way.
"See you tomorrow then," he said. He had a lot to think about toinight... and he'd hopefully manage to complete that task whilst out walking later. He leaned over and dropped a brief kiss onto her lips, watching as she climbed out of the car. Only once she'd vanished inside the house did he finally drive away.
Felipe had to admit he hadn't a clue what had caused that little episode... and LizBeth's reasoning for not interrupting him adn Abby fell well short of the mark in his eyes. After all, had he stumbled across her talking with Ben then he wouldn't have hesitated from joining them! no, an over-reaction without a doubt. The questioned remained, though - why?
(wrapped maybe?)
