It was amazing how one single night could change your life. For Skye, that night was the one that she had spent in Palm Springs with Nate. the morning after, they had both woken slowly, groggy and definitely not in a fully sober state of mind. Skye still not remember everything that had happened the night before honestly. She recalled eating, and then going to the club, dancing with Nate, and then..nothing until the next morning. she'd slipped out of bed, naked but for the sheet that she wrapped around herself. She'd stepped over discarded clothing, and shoes, making her way to the bathroom in hopes that it might help her wake up more. She felt like she'd been licking a sheep, severe cotton mouth. Her head'd felt foggy, heavy and her vision was blurry. All were signs that she'd taken her painkillers the night before, but intensified. She remembered wondering if she had had a drink or two at the bar with Nate, thanks to the fake ID's he'd had made for them. She definitely did not remember drinking, it was one of those things that she refused to do. Even the smell reminded her of her father and his anger.
She'd run a hand through tousled hair, moving almost zombie like toward the dresser to find some clothes to put on. Nate had been snoring, still asleep in the bed nearby. Blue eyes had blinked several times, trying to clear as she recalled picking up a sheet of paper, her brain trying to process what it had said.

It'd been a marriage certificate, full and legit. Skye had called for Nate, managing to walk over, the paper in her hand, as she sat on the edge of the bed. She'd shaken him hard, nearly pushing him off of the bed in an attempt to wake him up. Needless to say, it had been a HUGE shock to the pair of them, and it had been clear to say that Nate was not happy about it. The couple had spent a few hours yelling at each other in the hotel room, trying to figure out what to do. Nate had only just begun to deal with the being with Skye only thing, and now he was married?! He'd suggested an annulment, which would have been an easy out of things...except for the fact that they'd obviously used their fake ID's to show their age. If they'd gone in and asked for the annulment, it meant admitting they had fakes, and that was a bad thing. It meant that they could have ended up in jail, and with Nate's prior history with drug and alcohol problems, and Skye's eggshell relationship with her foster parents...they weren't able to rock the boat.
After eventually deciding to keep it silent, the pair removed the rings they'd also found themselves wearing, packed up and headed back to LA. that had been a car ride made in silence, the air so thick with tension, you needed a chainsaw to cut through it.
Things had only barely gotten slightly better over the last several weeks. Somehow Nate had let Jay and Trixie know what had happened, which meant that their Nana had found out as well. Skye'd been a little luckier..for a little bit anyway. Marc had overheard her one evening on her phone talking to Nate about it. While he and cindy were personally ok with it, after sitting down and talking with Skye about what happened, the Foster program that she was part of....not so ok with it. Married persons were considered legal adults by the state, and no longer able to be provided for by the program. It meant that Skye had been basically tossed out with the clothing she had arrived with. Marc had felt really bad for her, and had given her enough money to get a motel room for a few weeks.
Skye'd not told Nate about being removed from the house for a while, which had been easy. They had barely talked at first, either not sure how to deal with things. He'd found out one morning after finding her at their shared locker. He had apparently gone to the house to pick her up for a surprise breakfast and had been told by Cindy what had happened. Skye admitted to it, not that she had really done anything wrong, not telling him had been because she had not wanted to force him to do anything about it. Nate insisted she come stay with him at Nana's with Jay and Trixie. She'd refused at first, not wanting to impose anything and add more financial trouble on the elderly woman who was already taking care of 3 teenagers.
Eventually, the motel rent ran out, and while Skye had been looking for a job after school, she was not able to get enough money together in time. She appeared on Nate's doorstep, her bag over her shoulder, her eyes red rimmed and swollen from crying. That had been a month ago.
Things were still a little sketchy, Skye seeming to walk on eggshells around everyone. She had finally been able to secure a night time job at a fast food place in town, and was saving every single penny that she earned after giving part to Nana for household expenses. She also pitched in and did chores. She and Nate were doing better with the marriage thing, having talked..more calmly this time, agreeing to just see what happened. If they made it work, great, if not, neither would blame the other. Things felt...disconnected between them. They slept next to each other and they spoke, but it had been some time since they had gone out together, or been physical. It probably did not help that Skye was gone at work most nights as well. She was barely balancing the last half of her senior year, work and her marriage. Hell, prom was 4 days away, and at this point, she had no idea what was going on. Nate had not said anything to her, so she assumed he did not want to go. She'd put in to work that night if that was the case.
This morning found the brunette dancer, who looked a bit on the tired side, trying to twist the combo to their locker and failing. She was clad in a pair of black jeans, a short sleeve V-neck blouse and ballet flats. Her hair hung loose and there was just a small visible bit of gold chain around her neck, her wedding ring tucked down the front of her shirt out of sight. She just had to make it a few more weeks until Graduation, if she graduated in fact. A recent meeting with the academic counselor had revealed that she was in danger of having to repeat the year.
Still losing the fight with the combination, Skye just closed her eyes and leaned her forehead against the cool metal door, taking a slow deep breath.
