Character Name: Kyler Hartley Whittemore
Nickname: goes by Kye
Age: 16
Birthday: May 15th
Place of birth: San Francisco, CA
School: Gould
Grade: Junior
Height: 5'9"
Hair Color: brown
Eye Color: hazel
Detailed Appearance: Kye’s appearance is somewhat boring. He’s kind of average for a guy in height and build. He’s skinny, with pale, freckled skin and round hazel eyes that are usually hidden behind his glasses.
His hair is light brown and usually overgrown, curling at the ends, and often flat just because he tends to wear a hat most of the time. He has a black beanie he pretty much always wears except when it gets too hot.
His clothes aren’t really anything special either. He wears jeans and T-shirts mostly. His T-shirts vary from surfer brands to stuff by local designers to funny ones that he found online. He doesn’t really have one style per say. Some times when he’s cold, he’ll wear a hoodie over his t-shirt. Really, the only times he’s in anything but jeans and a t-shirt is if he’d forced to dress up for some reason, which rarely happens anyway.
He isn’t really bad looking. He’s cute in his own way, but he certainly isn’t conventionally good looking and he is in no way the type of guy that evokes attention from anyway. All in all, he is very average. There really isn’t anything particularly noticeable or that stands out about him, which makes it easy for him to blend in and be invisible.
Personality: Kye often comes off as frustrated. And he is. He is frustrated with life. First off, he’s a total nerd, only he isn’t really nerdy enough to be a nerd which kind of leaves him in this weird in-between with not many friends. Kye probably has more in common with the popular kids—he likes drinking and going to parties and just hanging out. But he’s never been cool enough to be invited to these types of events unless his sister was invited first and she took him along, which happens often.
Although he looks the part of a nerd, he doesn’t read comic books, he doesn’t really read anything for that matter, he doesn’t like role playing, he isn’t particularly smart. He usually gets C’s in school, and while he’s capable of B’s, he often doesn’t try very hard. He’s quiet and pretty much a push over. If someone asks him to do something he can usually be talked into it, even if he doesn’t want to. Luckily he has Landon to look out for him.
He’s always wanting whatever he doesn’t have, whether it’s more friends, a girl friend…or to lose his virginity. Kye is never really satisfied with anything. He tends to be a negative person, always thinking and assuming the worst. He probably has some mild form of depression, but he’s never been treated for anything. But for the most part he has a lot of self-loathing and thinks that he isn’t good at anything and doesn’t deserve to be good at anything either.
One of the only things he cares about really, is his sister. She is his best friend, closest family, and pretty much the only person that matters as far as he’s concerned. He’s always happier when she’s around, although he does sometimes resent her when she isn’t, only because she’s much more popular and social than he is and he wishes that he could be that way. He also does worry about her sometimes though because he knows that she’s a very open person and he’s always worried she’s going to get into trouble. When he is with her, he is often the voice of reason, convincing her not to try something utterly stupid for the sake of trying it.
He also wishes that he was more artistic like his mother and sister. He can draw okay but doesn’t really like doing it that much. He really likes taking pictures but he’s never taken a formal photography class. He mostly likes just taking candid pictures of people at parties. He likes it because it gives him something to do, so he feels less awkward. Also, the pictures that come out of it are usually pretty cool.
Thoughts On High School: Kye isn’t really a big fan of high school. He doesn’t really fit in and would rather be pretty much anywhere else. The recent disasters haven’t helped—especially the shooting. Kye was shot in the leg during the shooting, but while he turned out okay, and can walk just fine now, it has only just made his opinion of school worse. He doesn’t feel safe there anymore, despite the new security measures.
Town Area: Venice Beach
Job: works at his mom's gallery sometimes
Transportation: an old VW bus-he can afford fancier, but likes it
Family Background: Mother: Annalynn Whittemore - age 36, owns an art gallery in Venice Beach. Kye fights with his mom a lot. He doesn’t agree with a lot of the things he does, but mostly just ends up dealing with it.
Mother's current live in boyfriend: David Bray, owns several medical marijuana bars in Venice Beach. Kye can’t stand David. After David started creeping on Landon, Kye tried to stand up to him but David just ended up beating the shit out of him and saying he came home from school like that. Since then Kye has mostly avoided him.
Father: Ian Rodarte - age 37, lives in LA and owns a photography firm. Kye only met him about a year ago. Their relationship is awkward at best. He’s really not a bad guy, he’s just made some huge mistakes in his life.
Sister: Delilah Stewart - age 16 - junior at Gould. Kye only found out that he had a sister about a year ago. He’s nice to her but mostly just feels awkward around her and doesn’t know what to say.
Sister: Landon Whittemore – age 15 – sophomore at Gould. Landon is more than just his sister, she’s also his best friend. They are extremely close. He’d do anything for her.
Grandmother - Abigail Whittemore - age 58 - New York society woman
Grandfather - Richard Whittemore - age 62, Hedge fund Investor, lives in New York City
History: Annalynn Whittemore grew up in a high profiled New York society family. And she hated it. She always wanted to get out and she finally did...the moment she turned 18. She moved out to San Francisco, mostly because it was as far away as she could manage. Annalynn soon found herself very much in love with the city and very much in love with the man she met there, Ian Rodarte. Ian was a photographer and they were living together when she found herself pregnant. She had Kye and was very happy even though she got quite a surprise when she was pregnant yet again shortly after Kye was born. It was during her pregnancy with Landon that she learned that Ian had been unfaithful to her...and had fathered another child with another woman. Annalynn left Ian and never looked back. Although he'd tried to contact her several times while Kye and Landon were growing up, Annalynn never allowed him any contact with his children. However about a year ago after they moved to LA, Kye found out their father was there and looked him up. It was at that time that Landon and Kye met their father and found out they had a half-sister. Their relationship isn’t the best, but it isn’t awful either.
Ian was born and raised in San Francisco. He was very young when he met Annalynn but he loved her very much. He made one drunken mistake with Delilah's mother, and oh did he pay for it. Annalynn left him and cut him out of his children's lives. Angry, he moved away, to LA and he even thought maybe he'd cut Delilah out as well, but he couldn't do that, and while Delilah's mother did not want much to do with him either, she at least let him send money, although she only allowed him visitation with her daughter when she got sick. After Delilah's mom passed away, Ian took the girl in and loves her very much but he regretted not getting to know his other children. About a year ago, his son found him and since then he’s gotten to know Kye and Landon a little bit, but usually Ian tries far too hard and it’s kind of awkward when they’re all together.
Kye grew up in San Francisco. His mother was an artist, very eccentric and tended to move them around based on whatever guy she was seeing. They lived in the city, in Sausilito-which is across the bay, and at one point on an old fishing boat in the bay. Kye never liked this...moving in with different guys all the time, but always just dealt with it, however his mom’s most recent boyfriend, David Bray, is by far the worst. David jumped on the bandwagon of opening medical marijuana places when California made it legal. He decided to move down to LA because it was bigger in Southern California, choosing Venice Beach as the absolute best location for everything. Of course, Annalynn followed him there, dragging Kye and Landon with her, for their biggest move yet. Annalynn opened up an art gallery in Venice and while she is somewhat successful and David is very successful, most of their money still comes from Annalynn's very rich parents who Kye hardly knows since they almost never visit New York and his grandparents almost never visit California. While Kye doesn't hate LA, he prefers San Francisco, and does still very much hate David. Also, David is a total creeper and is always trying to get into Landon’s pants. Both Landon and Kye tried to tell their mother this, but Annalynn wouldn’t believe them, saying they were just bitter about the move. Worse, David also beat up on Kye when he tried to help the situation. Right now, the whole family is under a lot of stress. It’s sort of come down to Landon and Kye vs everyone else.

Writing Sample: Kye pulled his beanie over top his flat hair. It was kind of warm out but he didn't care. He didn't really like his hair anyway but he did like his hat. He straightened his glasses, looking in his locker mirror for a moment before he shut the locker and headed down the hall.
It was lunchtime and he was looking for his sister since that's who he usually ate with when he didn't eat alone. He didn't really like eating alone, but the truth was, it tended to happen when Landon wasn't around. Landon was the social one, not him. But knowing his sister, she'd be outside in his car taking a nap or something. Landon was off like that sometimes.
He decided to stop by the cafeteria first, letting his eyes scan the crowd. Sure there were a lot of people in there...a lot of people to process, but Landon tended to stand out. So if she was there, Kye would have seen her. He headed outside next and walked around the grounds a bit. Students were scattered about, eating their lunches, or some sans food and simply flirting with one another.
Kye moved on, not wanting to linger. He was rounding the front of school when he heard footsteps behind him. He wanted to be paranoid about it but forced himself not to be. No reason to be paranoid. It was lunchtime. There were students everyone. It was more than likely another student was walking in the same direction as....ouch.
And just just like that, Kye was flat on his stomach on the cement, the palms of his hands scratched from catching his fall. He looked up to see who had done it but all he saw was a boy running away and laughing. Probably one of the popular ones. Kye let out a sigh as he pushed himself off the ground, his hands still sore from the fall. His jeans were ripped now too. Man life sucked sometimes....
