Character Name: Lily Grace Spencer
Nickname: Lil, Spencer, Spence
Age: 16
Birthday: February 16th
Place of birth: San Diego, CA
School: Gould
Grade: Sophomore
Height: 5'2"
Hair Color: blonde
Eye Color: hazel
Detailed Appearance: Lily is short in stature, and on the petite side, but she is no skinny little girl. While she isn't bulky, Lily is very muscular for a girl. She is no means as thin as a lot of the LA girls, but she is in very good shape, especially muscular in her legs from snowboarding. Her hair is straight, honey blonde and falls just past her shoulders, usually parted effortlessly in the center. It also tends to be on the flat side since she likes to wear beanies a lot, especially while she's snowboarding. While she can't really boast a tan, her skin has pink undertones, burning and blushing easily to her own dismay.
Her face is round, making her seem more childlike and she has a roman nose and plump lips that are naturally a dark pink and often chapped due to so much time in the cold. She is pretty in a very effortless sort of way. While she wears makeup, its usually light makeup, and very neutral, when she's wearing it at all. She has a very low maintenance style, jeans, leggings, sweats, anything comfortable. On days she's training she usually likes to stick to comfortable things that are easy to change in and out of or layer under her snowboarding gear. When she isn't training she'll wear jeans, T-shirts, shorts. She's not opposed to dressing up and will wear dresses and skirts sometimes but usually doesn't dress up unless she has a reason to. She also wears a lot of Roxy and Quiksilver stuff (she likes men's clothes sometimes when it comes to sweats and T-shirts because they are more comfortable and less fitted) because they are one of her biggest sponsors along with Rock Star Energy drinks.
Personality: Lily is very focused. To people who don't care about snowboarding she can come off as kind of annoying and single minded, but really, she'd just really passionate about what she does. She's already a bronze and a gold metal at the winter x-games, respectively, and she's also won a number of other championships. Right now she is training for the Olympics in 2010, as well as the 2009 X Games, where she will be competing. She doesn't have a guaranteed spot of the Olympics yet but she really wants to get there and will do everything she needs to qualify. She doesn't just snowboard of course, she also runs regular, works out at the gym, and skateboards to cross train for the sport.
She tends to spend a lot of time with her older brother, Jordan, who is also a snowboarder and just as interested in the sport as she is. While she wouldn't consider herself unpopular, she has a hard time relating to the other kids in her class, because they aren't pro-snowboarders and she is. She's more of a loner if anything. She has to travel from time to time for her sport so will sometimes miss school for weeks at a time which also stress any relationships she has in school. She wouldn't mind having some closer friends at Gould, its just relating to them that's a problem for her. She's also become kind of interested in graphic design and is working on collaborating with Roxy to design some snowboards and some gear.
Lily is almost like two different people. When it comes to snowboarding she is very aggressive, outgoing, hyper and friendly. She has become good friends with a lot of her competitors and often comes off as very laid back and fun to be around. And while that laid back attitude carries over into school, she is much quieter there and comes off as almost shy even though she's never really though of herself as shy. She's just less interested in everything and everyone at school and that lack of interest kind of transfers into her coming off as very quiet and reserved. Anyone who has gotten into a real conversation with her would know otherwise, but not many have gotten that chance.
Thoughts On High School: As far as high school goes, Lily is only there because she has to be. If it were up to her, she'd be training full time and homeschooling, but her parents insist on she and her brother staying in high school and giving them as normal of an experience as possible. As far as all of the tragedies this year, they've only added to Lily's animosity toward school. She feels like she's above it and that she doesn't need it. The fire didn't effect her too much, since it happened at Silver and the earthquake, while it was a big one, she grew up having them so didn't freak too much. If anything the shooting sort of got to her, but again, it mostly only made her wish she didn't have to go to school.
Town Area: El Segundo
Job: pro snowboarder
Transportation: rides from others, bus, skateboard
Family Background: Daniel Spencer - he is a retired alpine skier --he has 2 bronze, 4 silver, and 3 olympic gold metals from the games in the 80s.
Katherine Spencer - she works as a publicist. She still represents Daniel and also represents both Jordan and Lily, as well as a number of other athletes.
Jordan Spencer - he's 17 and a junior at Gould. He is also a pro snowboarder. Lily is very close with him. She considers Jordan her best friend.
History: Daniel was born in Colorado, his parents owning a ski resort. He picked up the sport at an early age and became and Olympian in the 1980s. He didn't meet Katherine until later in his career. At the time she was the assistant to his publicist but they quickly hit it off and started dating. By this point Daniel was an adult and relocated to San Diego because he liked the warm weather and it wasn't too far from the mountains. They married and had two children a year apart, Jordan and Lily. While the kids were taught to ski at a young age, they both seemed to be more interested in the snowboarders on the mountain and once they started taking lessons they both sort of took off with the sport. The family relocated to Los Angeles when Lily was 7 and Jordan was 8 because it was a bit of a closer drive to the mountains and they had some indoor halfpipes in the area. To Daniel, it was clear even when they were that young that some day they'd go pro eventually.
Lily was only 12 and Jordan 13, when the pair first got noticed. Quiksilver picked up the sibling pair, offering to sponser them. Once they started competing the two made news right away. Later on Rock Star Energy jumped at the chance to sponsorship of the pair. While neither has made an Olympic debut, thus not being quite as famous or notable as some of the other boarders, they are pretty famous to those who do follow the sport, both being featured in Sports Illustrated, as well as a number of Snowboarding and Extreme Sports publications and websites.

Attendance Length: since freshman year
After School Activities: none
Likes: snowboarding, half-pipe, skateboarding, designing, sleeping in, watching basketball, classic rock music, any music with a good beat, grilled cheese sandwiches, knitting (she makes hats and scarves when she's traveling), Roxy, Rock Star Energy, old movies, staying healthy, feeling healthy, other people who like snowboarding, competition
Dislikes: going to school, avocados, falling on ice, getting injured, feeling lonely, feeling like an outcast, not being able to train as much as she wants, not knowing what's going on in class (its annoying when you're always behind), vapid high school parties (although admittedly she'd never been invited to one), distractions, itchy sweaters, feeling fatter than the other girls her height even if she is more fit
Other Information: she is a pro snowboarder sponsored by Roxy and Rock Star Energy, she trains at Big Bear (2 1/2 hours north of LA) on the weekends and the occasional weeknights, and at an indoor half-pipe in Inglewood (about 15 from El Segundo).

Writing Sample: Lily slid down into the plastic cafeteria chair and stared at the plastic looking lunch on the plastic tray. Man, she hated school. Maybe the food she ate while training was also cafeteria food but any food was better that Gould food. She poked at the greasy looking burger with her white plastic fork trying to decide if it was even edible. "I suppose I'll give it a whirl," she thought to herself, dropping the fork and picking up the burger with her hands. One would think that you couldn't screw up a burger, but just as the Gould High cafeteria people, they could screw up anything. Not good. She made a face and pulled off the top of the bun, drenching it in ketchup. She secured the top of the bun back in place and took another bite. It wasn't amazing but it was passable this way.
Seated toward the back, Lily glanced around the room. Most of the tables were packed with students all chattering away with their friends. During the majority of the day, Lily didn't mind not having friends. Who cared if she had someone to talk to in geometry or P.E. or whatever anyway? But lunch tended to suck...especially when her brother wasn't around, which it seemed like today he wasn't. Jordan was a little more social that she was anyway. It was easier for him. It was cool being the pro-snowboarder guy, but it was harder for girls. Other girls mostly didn't care about snow sports and guys were usually intimidated that she was better than them. Well, other snowboarder guys usually weren't so bad. In general guys were better at the sport...could get more air on the half pipe, but Lily had been gaining the reputation of being able to pull off some of the same tricks as the boys, even a few they didn't go near. Her runs were technical and clean and she even could get some decent air.
But the general student body at Gould didn't really care about that. So Lily ate lunch alone. Nibbling on her ketchup drenched burger and picking at the soggy fries. She stared out the window and pressed her chapped lips together. She'd be hitting the gym tonight and then she'd be driving up to Bear tomorrow. Well, her dad would be driving up to Bear. While Lily had turned 16 recently she hadn't even gotten her driver's permit yet. She hadn't had the time. Not that she'd want to drive up to Bear. She'd let her dad and brother deal with putting the snow chains on and all that. She liked going up there though because although the indoor facility was nice, there was nothing quite like being outside in the snow. She'd move out to Colorado or Utah or something someday...somewhere near a good mountain. That's all she really wanted. She didn't really care about most of the stuff going on in LA...with all the celebrities and all that. But her parents liked LA so she was stuck here for now...stuck at Gould, eating lunch alone.

On a side note I know it does seem kind of crazy for someone so young to be a professional snowboarder, I've done research and its not all that uncommon for snowboarders to go pro and get sponsorships at those ages
