Once she was registered, June headed to the cafeteria. Her thoughts being she was going to have to do things by herself soon anyway, so why not start now.
She got in the line and selected a salad of some kind, fruit and a couple of milk cartons. Now was the big task, finding a place to sit.
She stood for a moment, looking around. She suddenly felt insignificant and small. She started toward one table until some big footballers took it, she quickly turned on her heels, having been the butt of many of their jokes at her old school.
She found another table and quickly took the seat. She took her phone out, and looked at Colby's number. She didn't want to rely on him but she needed company.
At this point, anyone with a friendly face or words would do. She looked up to see a shadow at the table. She stammered.
"I...I'm sorry, I didn't know if anyone was sitting here." She gave him big brown eyes of apology.

Gray hadn't been to school for what feels like forever. His mother had told the school about his sudden bout of fever. Of course it wasn't fever. Well, not the normal fever people get medical certs for anyway. So when he finally got to school, he had given the school clerk his mother's letter and went straight for the cafeteria for some pudding snacks.
Once he got a substantial amount [that usually meant more than five] he looked around for a seat and finally settled on one that only had one girl. Pretty enough. He was sure he could charm his way to getting a seat. He walked towards her and was about to sit when she looked up with an apology stammering out of her lips.
He chuckled and settled into the seat. That was easier than he had thought. "Chill little girl. I just got here." He adjusted his bag strap before pulling it off his shoulder and throwing it on the table. "I'm Gray. Are you new?" he asked before grabbing one pudding snack and tearing it open to dig into the velvety goodness of chocolate and caramel swirled together.

The first thing June noticed about the boy was the amount of pudding in his hands. No normal human could eat that much and still remain upright, still she gave him a smile.
"As a matter of fact I am new. Just setting into L.A. as of four hours ago." She hadn't even thought of the time she woke up to catch her flight. "I'm June Griffin." She extended a hand to him. He had a rough exterior but there was something there, sort of what Belle saw in the Beast.
"My cousin attends here, so he's giving me the tour of everything so far." She wasn't sure how much to tell, after all she was a stranger in a strange land.
"So, Gray, how about you, I mean what grade are you in?" She kicked herself internally. 'C'mon improv skills kick in!' Making small talk wasn't the easiest thing for her.

Gray practically gulped down the first two pudding cups like it was water before deciding to go slow on the third one, savouring it while the girl in front of him started talking. Wasn't much of a chatter, Gray's type. Just like that girl Taegan. Hmm...he hadn't seen her for awhile. Maybe she was avoiding him?
He honed his senses back on the girl who was currently introducing herself. "Hi June Griffin." He grinned after swallowing his pudding. "You have a cousin here? Does he go to school here?" Gray asked, even though he probably wouldn't even know who her cousin was, seeing that he seldom was in school. And even if he was, it wasn't like he socialised that much anyway. So long as her cousin wasn't a jock, he would probably get along with him fine. "That's cool, that's cool. I'd give you a tour myself but...I get lost too," he chuckled.
"Me? I'm a sophomore. Though my mom would say I was lucky they even kept me here. See, I'm not the school going type." He admitted in a conspiratorial whisper. "I'm into music and I'm going to get my band noticed one day. I'm the youngest in my band so...I'm considered a musical genius. Not to brag or anything." He grinned smugly. His fourth pudding cup disappeared without him even noticing. "Well look at that...I'm almost out of pudding cups." He noticed the look she gave him and he pushed one cup to her. "You want? I could get some more. In fact...be right back."
Gray got up to go to the lunch lady to get some more of the delicious pudding and grinned while he settled himself down in his chair with six additional pudding cups. "I like pudding." He announced. "If you couldn't tell." He added, gesturing to the empty cups scattered across the table. "You like music?" Gray moved the attention to her.

"Yes, he's a junior I think. His name is Colby." There was some security in knowing someone in the higher ranks, there was a cushion just in case. She smiled politely. "Well better to get lost with someone than all alone." The boy did have his charms like this though.
"That's a coincidence, I'm a sophomore myself. We might have classes together, maybe I could help you with umm whatever your taking!" He sounded like someone who just needed the positive guiding hand to get him going.
Before she could say anything, he was off like a flash and there was a pudding cup in her hands. She sighed and shrugged her shoulders and slowly enjoyed the chocolately goodness. "You must have a stomach of steel to eat so much like this, two is my limit." Her eyes lit up on the word music. "I live for music, I'm hoping to become a singer even an actress. I know it's a cliche to be in L.A. for that but my former teachers said I have the potential for greatness."

"Colby Jergens? Oh he's a pretty cool dude..." Gray nodded, his mouth slightly full of pudding. "For a jock, anyway." Colby wasn't exactly a jock perse. Not the ones that tormented other 'lesser' human beings than them anyway but he was a jock no less. He just happened to be one of the better ones. He grinned at June when she more or less invited him to give her a tour of the school. He'd be glad to. The girl seemed nice. Didn't hurt that she was a pretty little thing.
"Eh, I doubt you can help. I don't even think I want help but thanks though...that's really nice of you." He grinned a childlike grin as he scooped more pudding into his mouth. "Why thank you!" He responded when she commented about his stomach. "It helps that I burn them off with w-I mean...running. The weight just drops like flies." He snapped his forefinger against his thumb in emphasis to what he just said. That was cutting it pretty close, telling a girl that he loses all his weight from weed.
At the mention of singing, Gray lit up himself, almost dropping his pudding cup. "Hey! That's awesome!" He replied with the same level of enthusiasm as June's. "Hey, cliches are awesome. What would we be without them? If we have a dream and there's a place where dreams can come true, why not right?" Gray was all about living the dream. As soon as his band gets recognised, they'd finally get somewhere.
"Maybe we could do a duet sometime, I'm sure my band would like to have some female persuasion every now and then. I think they're slacking on purpose since most of them are like...out of high school and stuff."

"He's sort of a hero to me, he was nice enough to pick me up from the airport this morning. I hadn't seen him since we were little kids, you should have seen him then!" There was a hint of mischievousness in her voice. "He's grown up nicely."
"Well, the offer still stands. You never know when something might come up that you can't figure out." She made the offer clear.
He was a runner, that would explain a lot. Either that or he was on a sugar rush all the time. "You'd be amazing on the farms back in Kansas. Big meals followed by heavy working in the fields. Who needs a gym?" She chuckled.
"I would love to sing a duet sometime. Just let me know the place and time, I'll be there." She had never met a guy into music, because that usually was left to "sissies" and the non-jock types.

Gray raised an eyebrow at June's undertone. He didn't really care for guys who grew up nicely. He really didn't care for seeing guys. He didn't want to seem rude so he chuckled unconvincingly. "Yeah...I'm sure he has."
He really couldn't believe that someone was actually willing to help him out. Most peopl would just look at him and say: Eh...basketcase. And then either walk away or poke him with a stick. Granted, he was usually always getting high whenever that happens but still. Help from someone who barely knew him was rare. And this girl had just landed here! She had no reason to help him. She was pretty damn cool. "Thanks. I'll be sure to look you up. June Griffin, right?" with an easy grin, he leaned back on the chair and sighed. With the pudding all gone, Gray had nothing else to occupy himself with.
"Yeah? That'd be cool. I'll give you the address to where my band's practicing tomorrow afternoon." He took a piece of scrap paper and a pen to scribble down the address before handing it to June. "Come around...3 or 4. Should be fun. We could use some female vocals for this one song we're sampling."
The bell rang and Gray groaned. "Man...just when you're having fun." He grumbled before grabbing his bag. "Hey, you want me to walk you to your class?" Gray asked as he stood up.

June took the paper from Gray's hand. "I'll be there at 3 ready to go." She really was unprepared, she had no idea what kind of music they played or sang. Still it was a singing gig even if its for fun.
She heard the bell go off dismissing lunch. A question from out of the blue came toward her. She gave him a small shrug and a smile. "I would love to have someone like you walk me to class."
