Tyler had every reason to be in a great mood this morning. The day, or rather, the night, had been more than enjoyable, even if sex hadn’t been involved and his time with Shelby had been rather on the tame side. The girl was beautiful, quite a good kisser, and seemed rather infatuated with him, like many other girls were really, but still, it was good for his ego.
And then there was the pep rally tonight. He always enjoyed them, the sight of all those cheerleaders. Then afterwards was the start of his weekend with Sarissa. He was planning on continuing to surprise the girl, something he’d been rather successful with so far. He figured that was the key to winning her over. She seemed so intent on playing hard to get, on making him work for her, to show that he wasn’t just trying to get into her pants. Well, that was obviously part of his interest, but he was also enjoying the chase, and he loved women in general, spending time with them, and not just for sex, as was the common belief about him. Though he did love sex. He felt that if he showed her another side of him, one that not everyone saw, well, she might just feel so obliged as to show him some more of her.
So, with recent pleasant memories still in his head, and future pleasant ones to look forward to, the footballer should be feeling cheery. Especially as it was Friday, only one more day of school to put up with before the weekend. But no, it felt hard to be in such good cheer when he was forced to spend part of his Friday morning, when he should instead be lingering around the car park or perhaps football field, talking to his admirers, in the school library.
The last time Tyler was in the library was during the school shooting, with Maggy, and that wasn’t exactly a pleasant thing to recollect. Besides, really, what was the appeal of a library? Just boring, dusty, stifling places to his mind. But this was where his French teacher told him he’d most likely find the girl at this time of day. The girl who should be able to tutor him. Now, Tyler wasn’t against tutoring in general, he had a couple in the past even, it was very important to his father that his grades be kept up. But for French? Really, it was an unimportant subject that he only choose because nothing else appealed at that time. But it counted towards his overall grade, and currently, he wasn’t doing anywhere near as well as he should be, so he had no real option. And so, in preparation he made sure to wear his Letterman jacket today. He didn’t wear it that often, but he donned it today just to be even more dreamy, for lack of a better term. He doubted that any girl, tutor nerd or not, could ever say no to him about anything, especially something that would involve spending time with him. But it couldn’t hurt to make sure of that. Besides, it was a pep rally day, so school spirit and all.
He figured the girl would be plain looking, after all, she spent free time willingly in the library, was a tutor, and he’d never heard of her before, so clearly she couldn’t actually be of any interest. But a quick glance around the place showed that there was only one girl sitting by herself, and he would call her anything but plain. A grin crossed his face as he realised that maybe having a French tutor wasn’t the worse thing in the world. He approached her table with a very familiar swagger in his walk, smiling as he stopped directly in front of her. “Hey. Are you Lana, the tutor?”

Lana had left the house earlier then normal, taking her own car instead of coming in with Blake. She honestly had not seen much of her brother over the weekend, which was good and bad in the same time. He was her brother and she loved him but not having to listen to he and the General argue was always nice. She'd gotten up, showered and dressed before anyone was really moving in the house. Her French teacher had grabbed her the day before and asked if she would mind tutoring a senior student. She'd receive extra credit for it, not that she needed it. She'd been mildly surprised when her teacher had told her who to expect to find her. This was going to be...interesting.
Lana was dressed in a pair of linen pants with a slim fitted cop with no sleeves and ruching along her stomach. She had her long blond hair down and loose about her for once. She had chosen a seat away from the others that were utilizing the quietness of the library. The doors opened again, and she looked up slightly. There was no mistaking that walk. Everyone knew who Tyler Durnham was. 'Oui, je suis Lana et nous parlerons rien que le français.' she replied, watching him.

Tyler hesitated for just a fraction of a second when Lana looked up at him. The girl really was gorgeous, he was sure he’d never seen eyes that shade of blue before. And he always did have a thing for blondes. For any girl really. But still, with her looking like that, he was surprised that this was the first time he met Lana. It was hard to believe he could have missed her. It made him wonder if there was any other pretty girls around the school that may have slipped his attention. He’d have to be more observant in the future. He’d hate for any of them to miss out on his company.
But it wasn’t just her looks that made him stall. He also had practically no idea what she said. He caught her name, at least, though he wouldn’t have even needed that to be sure he found the right girl. He stared for just a moment before offering her a confident grin, sitting down in the chair opposite her. He thought Lana looked pleased to see him, which wasn’t exactly a surprise, or a first. He knew of his appeal.
“I suppose that’s why it was suggested that I get tutoring.” Tyler decided with a laugh, quickly running his eyes over her as he relaxed back into his chair, seeming completely at ease even if he felt completely out of place. “So, does that mean you’re up to the task? Because I’m normally not a bad student, it’s just when it comes to French...well, the term clueless comes to mind.” he laughed, intent on charming the girl.

Lana offered him a small smile when he seemed to just stand there for a few seconds. She looked at her watch for a moment before looking at him. For a minute, she was tempted to continue with the only in french talk, but he looked honestly confused. Made sense as his teacher had said he needed major help.
while Tyler might have thought she loooked pleased to see him because of his so called appeal, Lana was just glad he was on time and hopefully taking this seriously. "Obviously." she said lightly, a ghost of a smile dancing on her unglossed lips. Unlike most of the girls at the schools, Lana did not do much in the way of makeup, just a bit of mascera and a pale eyeshadow to enhance the blue of her eyes.
"Am I up to the task, yes. Do I need the extra credit offered to me to make sure you pull this class up to par? No. Am I going to help you?" Lana asked, pulling a pair of thin rimmed glasses out of her purse and slipping them on. "Yes." She answered simply. "French is easy as long as you remember the proper conjugations." She looked up at him for a moment. "I have most afternoons free, so we can meet to study on your time plan..I know you have football practice."

In the not so distance past, Tyler considered himself flawless when it came to handling, and understanding women. If he wanted a girl, he had her, that was all there was to it. But lately he had been starting to doubt that. Not that he was suddenly lacking when it came to women, far from it, as last night showed. There were the women who made him play hard to get, Sarissa being a prime example of this, and even Maggy, who still hadn’t done more than kissed him innocently, no matter what he tried. Though he believed this was from shyness more than anything. Not to mention the very small number of women who would refuse him entirely, though in most cases this was fine to him, as they were usually women he wouldn’t consider unless desperate, something he never was. Brittany Barnes, for example. He didn’t know how she could have a boyfriend, how anyone could find that tomboy act appealing. Sarah Brody was the one exception to this, he would gladly have her if given the chance.
And then there were the women, again a very small number but still more than he would prefer, who seemed completely oblivious to his many charms. And the fact that Lana was apparently one of those was surprising to him. A girl like her, not popular, who spent free time in the library and willingly tutor others, was exactly the type he would have pegged to gush over the fact that he was giving her even the slightest bit of attention. If he had been anyone else, he would have worried he was losing his touch. But no, he was Tyler Durnham, nearly every guy in the school would kill to be half the man he was. There was nothing to worry about. He just had to work a little on the girl, that was all. And well, it could even be fun.
Though maybe it was a bit more work than he had first realised, if her response was anything to go by. Obviously. What did that mean? Was she implying that she agreed he was clueless? Because it was one thing for him to teasingly call himself that, but for her...well, this could be interesting. He liked a woman with a bit of fire to her, though again, he wouldn’t have pegged that as Lana.
She even looked good with glasses on. At least he’d have something nice to look at during his lessons, and he had a feeling he’d need quite a few to get a good mark. Just passing wouldn’t cut it, he needed to do well. “Yeah, that’s right, Coach will kill me if I miss any practices, even if it’s for a pretty girl.” he grinned, wondering how she would take flirting. But really, a girl who had most afternoons free? No wonder he’d never knew of her before today, she really needed to get a social life. That could be a fun little thing to help her with.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for your help, I really am.” Tyler offered another grin, deliberately leaning in a little towards Lana. “But if you don’t need the credit, then why are you going to use your free time to help tutor me?” Perhaps the girl was just really good at keeping cool, and did have a thing for him.

Lana was an interesting creature. She appeared mild and meek on the outside, often sitting in the shadows of her brothers and father. True, one of those brothers was gone, but it was his death that overtook her, and Blake's anger toward the entire world that forced her back. She often felt like she was overlooked. Lana retreated into her books, into the corners, and she was just fine. Sure, she had her friends, she was not anti-social, not a complete loser. She just...ended up forgotton a lot of the time. It was easy to slip behind the louder, more brighter people.
Now, get Lana on a stage and she blew it up. Most did not expect the powerhouse voice that exploded out of her mouth and it was one of the few places that she was fully happy. She loved singing, it was her freedom. Someone like Tyler Durnham could not possibly understand that. Everyone kissed the ground he walked on, the boy had an ego bigger then the American continent. He went through girls like Lana went through books. While he might have been good looking, Lana could never be with someone without love.
He seemed almost surprised that she had agreed with him on his need for a tutor. Why sugar coat it? He knew he needed the help, she knew it, why wrap his ego in more unicorns and rainbows and shove glitter up his ass? "Right, cause I'm sure your evenings are already full of pretty girls with air between their ears and legs." She countered quietly, opening a French textbook. Her teacher had given her a copy of the one that Tyler's class was working in.
He asked why she was helping him if she did not need the credit. She looked at him for a long moment, blue eyes slowly running over each of his features. "Because I need something to pass the time...I'm tired of being at home, listening to the fighting." Plus having something to do would help her move past the fact that she'd been passed over for the baby mama. "I hope you are as grateful as you say, because if you are going to slack off..please don't waste my time."

It became pretty obvious to Tyler, the longer he sat here, that though he may have many female admirers in both schools, Lana was not one of them. In fact, it even seemed as though the girl might have a slight dislike for him. Hard to comprehend, of course, but it seemed as though that could be the case. He laughed at her comment before he could help himself. She wasn’t completely wrong, it was well known how he liked to spend his time. He forced himself to hold back on a crude comment about what exactly was actually between their legs when he was with them, thinking that she wasn’t the type of girl to appreciate that kind of humour. “Actually, I prefer a woman with a mind. Conversation’s important.” He looked at her as he spoke, a knowing grin on his face. Though she seemed to not be interested in him, it didn’t mean that he wouldn’t continue to flirt with her. She was still a beautiful woman.
Then she looked up and her eyes met his for a moment, and with the way she looked him over, he couldn’t help but wondered if he was pre-emptive in his decision that she wasn’t interested. Because really, he was pretty great, it was rare for a girl not to want him. At the very least, she found him attractive, and that was something he could work with, if he ever got bored of tutoring (which was almost a certainty) and wanted a bit of stress relief.
Her reason for helping him did make Tyler frown, just a little. He wasn’t heartless, he did actually care for people. Well, a small number he was very close to, but still, that was something. And he couldn’t help but be surprised that Lana revealed that much to him, of all people. “I’m sorry to hear that.” he spoke softly, actually sounding sincere. But he didn’t ask her any more about it, not wanting to intrude on information she wouldn’t otherwise volunteer. It wasn’t any of his business.
“Trust me, I won’t slack off. I really need to do well in this, it’s important for my grades.” Tyler told her, still smiling. She was pretty hot when she was all serious like this. He wondered if she was ever not so serious though. “So whatever you tell me to do, I’ll do it. I’ll put in the effort. Thank you for this.” He leaned over the table, glancing over at the textbook. And he used the excuse that the book was upside to explain why it all seemed gibberish to him. The footballer was starting to regret choosing the class.
“Got the pep rally tonight, and I’ll be away over the weekend. But I’m free Monday after school, why don’t we get started then? We could meet here, or, you’re more than likely to come over to my place. I have the pool house to myself, it’s nice and quiet. And it’ll be more comfortable than being here.” Tyler chuckled, wondering if she would take him up on the offer. Considering her reaction to him so far, he would guess no. This time, anyway.

Tyler was wrong. Lana did not dislike him. In order to dislike him, she would have to actually know him. Truth be told, she didn't. Sure, she knew what others said, and what she saw in the halls and the cafe. But that is not enough to actually know someone. She might disagree with some of his behaviors, but that did not mean that she disliked him. She had to smile though as he said that he liked a woman with a mind. Lana actually snorted slightly. "I'm sorry..what?" She asked, looking at him, amused. "You prefer a woman with a mind?" She asked again for clarification. "Then why the hell do you date the bimbo squad?" She asked. "Or do you just date them to get them into bed?" Lana could not imagine going through people like that, moving through them so swiftly like water through tissue.
"Thanks.." She said, glancing back down at her book for a moment. "it's just...my brother causes a lot of problems with my parents...lot of tension." She told him quietly before flipping through the text in front of her to the current chapter. "Your teacher said you started to fall behind a couple of chapters ago..so we have our work cut out for us." She looked over at him again. "You're welcome.."
Lana pulled her blackberry out of her bag and started typing in Monday for the first session. "Pool house?" She repeated. "We use ours for..swimming?" She quirked another grin over at him. "And quiet is actually what we are going to need.." She told him. "Can you give me two days a week after school?"

“Actually, and it’s an easy mistake to make, so I don’t blame you, but I actually don’t date.” Tyler pointed out, completely shameless. He was happy with how he lived his life, it was what he saw as what was best, most enjoyable, for him, so he felt no reason to make excuses, to apologise for it. He didn’t hurt anyone after all, at least, he tried not to, and if he did, it wasn’t intentional on his part, so he couldn’t be blamed. “I merely just spend time with women, is all. For our mutual enjoyment. And sometimes that involves a bed, yes.” he admitted with a laugh.
“But sometimes that involves conversation. And for that, I enjoy a woman who can actually hold one. And the...bimbo squad, as you put it, well, not all of them are greatly talented in that department.” he explained, thinking that was the nicer way to put it. “You must not think very well of me, if all you think all I want women for is their looks.” But he was grinning as he said this, it fairly obvious he was far from offended. In fact, he even enjoyed it. He loved women thinking he was God’s gift to them, of course, no man wouldn’t. But on the rare occasion, he enjoyed an attitude like Lana’s, one that was more critical.
He’d lived life as a single child most of his life, he had only just started getting used to being a brother, so he felt he couldn’t really comment on Lana’s problems, not having any experience. Besides, again, it wasn’t his problem and she wasn’t exactly a friend, so he felt as though it’ll be for the best if he didn’t intrude. And if she was looking for a distraction, that was his right up his alley.
“A few chapters? I didn’t realise that things were so dire, I figured just the one at the most.” Though he laughed, it was clear Tyler wasn’t exactly thrilled to hear this. It would mean even more time being tutored than he had first realised, which meant less free time for his women. There really was too much effort involved in maintaining good grades. “In that case, we’ll just have to put plenty of work in.”
“Well, I do get swimming in occasionally. And because I’m such a nice guy, after our first session, if you feel like a swim, feel free. You don’t even need to bring a swimsuit.” His eyes danced with amusement at this, yes, he was already thinking about her naked. She was a beautiful girl, it was only natural for him to. “I’ve moved out there, just for a bit more privacy. And I tend to have guests over a lot, this way I’m not disturbing my father or stepmother.” He was sure he didn’t need to explain just what kind of guests he entertained.
Two afternoons out of five, that was a lot of free time taken up. Still, he really didn’t see he had a choice in the matter. “Sure, I can manage that if you can.” Of course she could, she might be good at hiding how pleased she was, but he was sure any woman would love to spend that sort of time with him. “I can’t wait to get started. So, do you have any plans for the weekend?”
