Greenlee had stayed after school like she always had, to help tidy up and put things away. She loved working in the office, but after that she did not feel like going back to the place she called home. She had cabin fever so to speak and she wanted to go out. The sun was still out, so she could have some fun in the sun, or what was left of it.
Greenlee headed to the pier. She still kept in contact with her Aunt and Uncle just to check in, but they did not notice she was gone. Well they did, but didn't seem to care. Which hurt and that is also why Greenlee was falling even more under Rafe's spell. Usually she went right home after school, but this time she went to the pier. She decided she would have some fun. She had some money so why not.
Greenlee walked up and down the pier, she stopped at the carnival. The best part about LA. The carnival, it never got old. She immediately got dome funnel cake. It was not the best dinner, but it wasn't dinner time anyway, so she did not care. Besides her metabolism was good, for now. It did not take long for a little thing like her to eat the funnel cake. Although she new she had eaten it too fast cause her stomach was acting up. "Word of advice, never eat sugar too fast." Greenlee said to no one in particular.

Only one more day of school before the weekend! Just that thought alone was enough to help put Dena in a good mood. Despite the fact that she was currently missing her really, really cute girlfriend so badly. Caitlin was busy for the night, family stuff or something like that. Whatever it was, it certainly wouldn’t be as fun as the two of them hanging out, as they adamantly agreed on during the flood of text messages they already sent each other this afternoon. But, as they reminded each other, the weekend meant hopefully lots of time together. Which, for Dena, meant hopefully some making out. Cause what was the fun of dating a really cute girl if you couldn’t kiss her lots, really? Well, actually, there was lots of fun to be had in dating Caitlin, the girl was really lots of fun, with her costumes, and her cheeriness, and the YouTube clips. Not to mention the kissing, she was a really good kisser.
Not wanting to hang around home until she absolutely had to, she decided to instead head over to the carnival. Something about the bright and shiny colours, and noisy people really appealed to the girl. Not to mention the yummy food and all the general prettiness of the ‘scenery.’
Grabbing some cotton candy and an orange soft drink to wash it down, Dena made her way over to a bench near the front of the carnival to watch everyone going past for a little while. She was bouncing slightly as she did, not from anything she was consuming, she was just in a good mood. Then a girl she recognised faintly from school spoke up nearby and Dena looked from her pink cotton candy, to her drink, back to Greenlee again. “Yep, well, it’s a good thing there’s none of that here.” she giggled happily. “So I won’t be tempted to eat it fast. Want some? I’ve got plenty. It’s really good. Tastes like pink.”

Greenlee recognized the girl as a freshman. She was one of those family members that had the TV show. Plus Greenlee was familiar with her brothers which made trips to the principles office a lot. Greenlee knew she should not have anymore, but candy was so hard to resist. "I ate my funnel cake so fast, but I do not regret it. i love funnel cake, can never have enough." She took a small piece of cotton candy.
"I think I come here more for the food then anything else." Greenlee said laughing, "The rides are fun, but they actually sell candy over and over to kids like us...don't they know what candy does to us." Greenlee was referring to the energy and the ability to bounce off walls. Not literally but she had a feeling she would not be going to bed early tonight. Not that she did anyway. Rafe was active at night.
"I am Greenlee." She introduced herself. It was better to learn the other girls name then calling her hey freshman or hey girl. "You out here for the food, or other reasons....the food always brings me out." She admitted. "That and its a nice day outside, it would be a shame to be couped up all day inside." Greenlee liked being out doors. it felt good to have the fresh air.
She understood now why her parents traveled. Well that and cause they had been con artists, but that was details, minor, but big details no one needed to know about any times soon. Greenlee just did not like talking about her past, but that should not even be an issue right now. "We should do the bumper cars later."

“Funnel cake is good.” Dena agreed, having an affection for any food that ended in the word ‘cake’. Because generally it was just plain good. Even carrot cake, despite the fact that it did contain carrot, was something she’d happily eat. Though if it ever came down to a showdown between that and a non-vegetable cake, like chocolate, the winner would be pretty clear cut. When the girl reached over, she happily held out the cotton candy to her, happy to share her yummy treat. Because in all honesty, it more than likely wouldn’t be the only junk food she ate this afternoon, so it really wouldn’t hurt to share it out now.
“Me too!” she agreed enthusiastically, knowing that she wouldn’t come here anywhere near as much as she did (at least once every couple of weeks or so, which was the closest thing to a routine that she had) if it wasn’t for the yummy food. There were always other places that had yummy food, pretty things and pretty girls, three requirements of hers for lazy outings. “I think that’s what they count on. Because if we eat lots of candy, we get hyper, and if we get hyper, we want to go on rides and ear more candy. It’s devious.” she decided with a giggle.
“Greenlee? That’s a really cool name. When you hear someone calling it, you know it’s always for you!” She laughed again at this, always one to laugh, often at things she herself said. It was obvious to anyone who met her that she wasn’t one to take things seriously often. “That’s like for me too. I’m Dena! Nice to meet you. I really like my name. It’s nice having an uncommon one. And also, people can’t talk about you behind your back and pretend they’re talking about someone else. Not that anyone would talk about you behind your back, I’m sure.” the teenager pointed out with a smile. “I mean, I know I just met you and all, but you seem really nice. And you like cotton candy. So you must be then.”
She stretched her legs out in front of her, gesturing for Greenlee to sit besides her on the bench. There was plenty of room after all, so again, she was all for the sharing. “Well, the food is a big part of it.” she smiled, pausing to have another bite of her food before holding it out again. “I just like being out. And I like coming here, it’s fun. And it’s a Thursday too, it’s no fun staying home on a Thursday. Besides, if I did, my parents might try to get me to do homework.” She pulled a face that showed her thoughts on just how mean and unfair that would be. Then the brunette looked around, as if just realising now that is was in face, a nice day. “Mmm, yeah, I like the sun.”
As much as food, both eating it and talking about it, was making her happy, the mention of bumper cars made her even more excited. “Oh, for sure! You’re on Greenlee, and I’m not going easy on you. I’m really good at them. You have to be if you ever go against my brothers. They get really carried away sometimes, so you have to get good at keeping out of the way. Either that or hitting them as much as they hit you.” she laughed. “And we have to go on the ferris wheel too! I wanted to go on before, but it’s no fun by yourself. Want a sip of my drink?”

"My mother loved soap operas. Its how I got my name. That and my mom like uncommon names." Greenlee smiled at the tender memory of her parents. She missed them. Sure she could have done without all the moving, but giving what her parents did as their job, it could not be helped. "You have a point. Does make it easy to know who's is talking about you." Greenlee said. Although she was not exactly talked about. Besides Rafe most people knew Greenlee as the girl in the office. She was not exactly invisible, but she wasn't popular either.
"You are so on. I happen to be a pro at driving...especially bumper cars. I usually go by myself. It will be nice to have a target." Greenlee began to laugh. "Oh the ferris wheel and the zipper. Neither is fun to go solo. So I will go with you on the Ferris wheel, if you go with me on the Zipper." Greenlee pointed it out just in case Dena didn't know what it was. It looked scary, but it was fun.
Greenlee liked Dena as a friend now. The girl seemed nice and cool. She might be a freshman but Greenlee was only a junior. So the friendship seemed harmless. Besides she was sure Rafe would not mind. He could probably use some alone time while Greenlee went out. Its not like he ran her life.....right?
"I got my own coke. Just what I don't need. More caffeiene. This place is devious. It knows candy is addictive. " Greenlee sure loved it. "Your brothers huh....I always see them in the principles office. What's its like having such a big family? Do you like fight all the time and stuff...." Greenlee took the offered seat. Sitting with her legs swingiing a little.

“Soap operas? Really?” Dena grinned, pulling a sour face, completely missing the past tense in what Greenlee said. “Does she make you watch them with her? Cause they’re like, really bad. Well, not all of...actually, yep, maybe all of them.” She giggled at this, before realising that maybe Greenlee saw this as Dena insulting her mum, which was of course the last thing she wanted to do. “I mean, no offence to your mum or anything. They’re just really...odd. I saw a bit of one once, I can’t remember the name, but it had a witch, and this doll who was alive or something. And there was this girl in it, well, she was like a demon or something. Actually, it was kinda funny. I think the doll was an alcoholic though.” This was followed by another laugh.
With Greenlee seeming just as excited about the bumper cars as she was, it only spurned Dena on more so, and she clapped her hands together in glee. “Well, I might be a target, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be able to catch me. Then you’ll be driving around, and looking around, and going “Where’s Dena?” And I’ll be like, “I’m here!” as I drive up behind you and push your car into the wall. It’ll be fun!” she laughed. The carnival was sure going to be better with two people, she realised. Maybe she could take Caitlin here on a date sometime. Junk foods and rides, and pretty things, she was sure her girlfriend would love it as much as her.
The bumper cars, the Ferris wheel AND the Zipper? This was going to be heaps of fun! She made a mental note not to eat any more food, once she finished the cotton candy anyway, at least until after she went on the Zipper. Greenlee seemed pretty cool and all, but that did not mean that Dena wanted the girl to witness her upchucking the moment she got off the ride. She didn’t know her nearly well enough yet. She didn’t know anyone well enough to have them bear witness to her upchucking. It really wasn’t pretty. “Ok, we have a deal.” she grinned, though she was attempting to look serious, as she put her drink down long enough to offer her hand and shake Greenlee’s, all official like. “Pleasure doing business with you.”
“It is addictive. But only cause it’s so yummy.” she sighed, a dreamy grin on her face. She liked yummy things. “Oh yeah, you work in the office! I thought you looked familiar. But yep, I’m not in there nearly as much as my brothers. And when I am, it’s because of something they dragged me into.” she giggled, obviously not minding this in the slightest.
“I like being in a big family. Not that I know what it’s like to not be in a big family.” she grinned. “I mean, I never get bored. Cause there’s always someone around to do something with. And it’s always really noisy when we’re all together. But I like that. It does get difficult trying to get ready in the morning though. We have a couple of bathrooms, but trying to get one to yourself?” She laughed, shaking her head. “No wonder I’m sometimes late to school. And that’s the only reason. Not because I sometimes sleep in. Nope, not at all. What about you? Do you have any brothers or sisters?”

From a distance, Raphael D'Aubert observed the two girls socialize with a small degree of interest, glad that he chose to wear casual attire for the unusually warm day. While he was more partial to button-up shirts, slacks, and the occasional waistcoat, his outfit of a faded Levi's 501 button up jean and a blue cotton v-neck shirt certainly gave him the air of austure grace and accentuated his physical features beautifully.
"Hey Greens..." he called out, waving at his follower/lover. "I've been meaning to find you."
Smiling broadly to show off his perfectly shaped set of teeth, the young man strode over to where to the two girls were having their conversation, plopping lazily beside Greenlee on the wooden bench.
"There's the matter of a charity dinner happening in downtown Los Angeles tonight, courtesy of my father's bank.." spoke Raphael, voice dripping with politeness. "I wanted to know if you would be able to come along with me to the function."
The D'Aubert Branch had a sizable presence in charity operations dotting America's Western Coast, seeing the value of good publicity in future expansion grounds. Aimed primarily at aiding the homeless and mentally ill, D'Aubert International Bank's first annual black-tie gala would bring about all of Los Angeles' rich and powerful to the scene, along with many other less reputable figures.
Raphael being one of them..
"It's a festive event, but I'm sure your friend could come too... if she likes.." added Raphael, quickly glancing over Dena with a careful eye.
"Pleased to meet you.." he added, extending a hand out.
"I'm Raphael.."

"You might be talking about Passions. No offense taken. My mom would watch them in one room while I played and had cartons in another. I know about soap operas cause when you are home sick sometimes there is not much else on. Besides I kind of like watching a show where someone has more drama in their life then I do." Greenlee said laughing a little at the thought, "I don't watch them anymore though. My mom and dad passed away. I use to live with my Aunt and Uncle for a while. Now I live with my boyfriend....kind of." Greenlee was not sure if Rafe was a boyfriend or a guy she lived with and slept with. The ladder sounded much worse.
Greenlee listened to Dena talk about bumper cars and smiled, "You are so on." Greenlee promised. "I am an only child, but I have a few cousins. Mostly its just me thought. My cousins are a bit spoiled and my mom and dad were not really close to their siblings so, there is like this distance......so I did not really like living with my Aunt." Greenlee admitted, "which is obviously why I moved out." Greenlee said. "Family drama. Apparently not everyone is immune."
Just then Rafe showed up and sat next to her and told her about a charity event, "I can go. I have just the dress. Dena you wanna come? It might be boring but I am sure we can find a way to stay entertained." Greenlee said. Although with Rafe she was not sure if she would be in her dress for long, so maybe Dena should not come, cause Greenlee was not sure Rafe would not drag her to come room. Although this was for his family. Not that Greenlee would object if Rafe did drag her off, but she did not want to ditch Dena in a room with strangers. That was not right. Then again Dena had not said yes or no, so Greenlee need to learn to not put the cart before the horse.
"This is Dena. She and I have a bumper car challenge coming up, if you want to join us." Greenlee smiled and leaned against Rafe. "This is the perfect day for a carnival adventure with a side of a charity dinner." She smirked.

“I’m really sorry.” Dena told her, looking entirely like she meant it. It seemed really said that the girl had lost both her parents, she only seemed a couple of years old then Dena. She was so used to having her whole family around all the time, she had no idea what it would be like to barely have any family around at all. It would be horrible, she thought, especially since Greenlee was an only child. That was something entirely incomprehensible to her, seeing how she never knew life without a ton of siblings. And to not be close to the rest of the family? That was also really bad, she thought, feeling sorry for her again. But at least she had her boyfriend, Dena thought, who Greenlee must really care about if she kind of lived with him.
Then a guy showed up, Dena quickly guessing that this must be the boyfriend, and for a few moments, felt just a little on the ignored side. Until he turned his attention to her. She didn’t know if she was being silly, just imagining things (which must be the case, because Greenlee seemed super nice, so the guy must be too if she was dating him), but something about him gave her a small case of the heebie jeebies.
“I’m Dena, nice to meet you too.” she greeted, just a little subdued, reaching out to shake his hand. Then they both offered for her to come with them to the charity dinner, an invite she wasn’t sure she should accept, thought she didn’t want to offend either of them. For one, it seemed like a sort of date thing, which would make her the third wheel, and she didn’t think that would be fun. Also, it did seem kind boring, like Greenlee had pointed out. Plus Dena really didn’t have a dress to wear to that sort of thing, she figured you would have to wear something expensive. And finally, she couldn’t see her parents being thrilled with her attending.
“No, it’s ok. Um, thank you for asking, but you two just go without me. Have fun!” she smiled. “And yes, you have to join us in the bumper car challenge. It will be fun!” She would have offered Raphael some cotton candy, but she really couldn’t see him accepting.
