Lia listened to Christophe enjoying his enthusiasm in his French accent. “They all have great names. She hung back slightly when they reached the correct room, but followed him up the stairs to the deck around the pool and knelt down by the edge, watching them with a huge smile. The smallest came over and watched her before surfacing. Lia talked quietly to Chinook and became very comfortable until the ‘baby’ pulled her in. “What should I do now?” She asked her date in a low voice. She didn’t want to upset any of the orcas so she kept still.
The water was comfortable, certainly warmer than the surf she boarded on, but she wished she had her wetsuit on. There weren’t any tourists in there at the moment which she was grateful for. Chinook nudged her and she giggled. Looking a bit like a drowned rat she looked at Christophe for his reaction. She slowly swam to the side and was grateful not to be followed. She held up her hand and waited for Christophe to help her out, not sure she was strong enough to heave herself out. “Well I guess I have shown how graceless I am again,” she said rather cast down. She adored Christophe and she kept having these clumsy moments that embarrassed her completely.

Christophe laughed and reached out a hand. He didn't want to panic Lia but he wasn't sure if Tika would attack. Females were always very protective of their young and until he got to know her he wasn't about to try and guess at any response.
He grasped Lia's hands and hauled out back to dry land - and safety. Chinook flapped around in what looked to be disappointment at having lost his prospective playmate. "You have made a friend," he said as he bent down to rummage in a locker. Towels, he knew were inside and he handed two to Lia.
"I think there are some spare clothes in the office behind the pool but..." He looked down at Lia's slim frame. "... They are sure to swamp you but better than staying wet, I think." He led her into the office he'd mentioned. Sure enough, dry clothing could be found there. The shorts would never stay up and so he handed Lia an over-sized t-shirt instead. "That should reach far enough down to cover anything you would prefer to remain hidden," he said with a grin. "I will wait outside."
He left Lia to change and went back to the edge of the pool. Chinook was still there and Christophe leaned closer to check out the pinkish throat for himself. He could see why the orca had been named after a salmon.
"So you have a playful side, huh?" The orca stared back at him. "I can see I will have to watch out for your tricks!"
He glanced up when he heard Lia returning. "Cute," he commented. The shapeless t-shirt hung loosely on her frame and did nothing for her but at the same time it made her look even more fragile.
"Would you prefer to go home? Your shoes are soaking wet..."

the Tee shirt was wide, but she was careful not to bend so that her hind end didn't get exposed by accident. "I can either squish around or go barefoot. It would be a shame to leave early. We've been together every night this week," she said softly, blushing. She was dressed in less than she normally wore even at home. "Christophe, I really enjoy spending time with you," she said, which was as brave as she could get. She really wished she knew how he felt about her.

"As do I with you, Llyria," he replied with a smile. "How about this... We stay here for a short while and meet my new friends here and then wander down to the beach. I will also remove my footwear and so we can both walk barefooted across the sand. I have a jacket in the car... you can also use that. It will make sure the t-shirt doesn't flap too much and reveal... well... anything," he finished with a grin.
Lia nodded and they returned to the poolside and this time Christophe made sure he kept a firm hold on Lia's hand. No way was he about to let her fall in for a second time! Tika might not be so placid next time.
"tell me something... if I'm not prying," he began. "... but how is it you aren't seeing anyone? I would have truly believed boys would have been forming a less than orderly queue at your front door and yet... you spend your time with me. Please be certian I am not complaining... just that I am curious... Am I soon to find myself facing an angry boyfriend?" he asked with a glint in his eyes.

Lia grinned at the comment about his jacket. "I have never had much luck with boys, Christophe. I have never dated anyone more than once. It never really bothered me until recently. Maybe its because I resemble Jandro so much, but he is really prettier than I am. I don't know. No one really feels the need to explain why only one date. I am somewhat clumsy as well and I tend to be rather blunt in my speech. I would like to know why no one takes me seriously, but I am doomed to be alone, I believe," she told him with a sad look in her crystal blue eyes. Lia wanted nothing more than to marry for love and have a family, but her goals were out of reach. Even Christophe just wanted someone to hang out with. "Why wouldn't you want to date me seriously?"

"I actually don't agree... about Jandro being prettier," replied Christophe. "He has delicate features, yes, but there is still too much masculinity in his bearing for him to be deemed prettier than his sister. And other than you falling into the orca pool I don't think I have seen you act in any way that could be called clumsy." He frowned slightly. "You think I am not taking you seriously? As for being doomed to a lonely life..." He threw her a wry smile. "I think that is a bit too dramatic... even for you," he said with a teasing glint in his eyes.
They wandered around the pool a bit further, Chinook shadowing them. "I guess I thought we already were sort of dating," he admitted. "We've been out together now a good 4 or 5 times... Doesn't that count as dating?" Maybe it was different here to back in Paris or even in BC? He couldn't be sure, to be honest. "I thought we were having fun together... Aren't you enjoying yourself? Even with the sudden bath," he finished with a wink.

Lia flushed uncomfortably, not having realized he would take her complaints as such. "Usually its more of a formal thing between two people. If a guy doesn't ask then you're just hanging out, not really dating. So you can date whoever until you ask someone to be your girl, give her a ring or something. A class ring is usual or sometimes you might give a 'promise' ring which means eventually you plan on becoming engaged. Raven and Isaiah are engaged, of course she is pregnant which accelerated things quite a bit. Catalina is engaged as well." her explanation finished, Lia's sweet voice faded into silence. for a moment and then perked up. "Christophe do you really consider us as dating? I love being with you, maybe it is my own stupidity that made me not understand. I would consider myself the luckiest girl in the world to be yours."

Christophe listened closely as Lia replied. Pregnant? Engaged? She was talking about becoming engaged? Hopefully not the pregnant part! He wasn't even close to being ready for that sort of a step! Maybe in 10 years time or so... There was too much still he wanted to do... to see... to think about settling down. "I think we are dating, yes," he said carefully. "At the very least we are... ah... what way was it said in Canada...? Going out. Yes, That was what I heard it called." The clash of cultures made it hard for him to really comprehend what was upsetting Lia but he knew he wasn't about to propose marriage. That, to him, would be moving at far too rapid a pace. "I believe we are dating.. At least, if you want to then so do I."
By now they'd completed their circuit of the vast pool and they started to head back to the main entrance. Lia held a plastic carrier bag that contained her wet clothes and Christophe took it from her in the car park. It was soon dumped in the car and he reached for the promised jacket. "Here," he said with a smile as he held it open for her to slip on.
Lia obliged and Christophe pulled her close for a hug, kissing the top of her head as he did so. "I think I have a lot to learn about the ways of this country," he murmured into her hair.

Slipping on the jacket, Lia was having a hard time keeping herself from dancing. She was so happy she would've done most anything that Christophe asked her too. She held him tight, feeling a bit swamped in his jacket. "I feel great about us. My brothers even like you and that is a first. You completely charmed my mother. I think she would even dump Ethan for you. But I won't let her." She felt safe and cozy in his arms. "Would you like to go to the God's and Goddesses party tomorrow night with me. Haley Rowan is holding it at her house and it is supposed to be wild. I will help you learn what you need to know. If I know it myself." Lia had never looked so beautiful. True she was in a tee shirt and a jacket much too big, but she was glowing with happiness.

Christophe smiled down at Lia when he heard her obvious excitement. That made him all the more positive this was right. Of course he might not be quite as serious about this as Lia seemed to be as an engagement was the last thing on his mind. Having some fun together was the object of it all and so far that was what was happening. With luck it would continue as they progressed. "Yes, it helps your family likes me," he replied with a smile. "Maybe at the weekend you can come over to my place for dinner? We can do something afterwards. Maybe watch some DVDs or listen to some music?"
He tightened his embrace as Lia nestled closer. "A party? Sure... that sounds good although I have no idea what to wear as a costume. Gods and goddesses... Long white gowns and togas? I hope there is a custume place in town as I am not that great with bed sheets," he added with a laugh. Tomorrow night... It didn't give him a heck of a lot of time to sort it out but Christophe was nothing if not inventive!
"And thank you... for the offer of helping me understand the USA. Its a very different place to the ones I am used to... more so Paris than Whistler." The pace was so much faster here but he would adapt. He always did.
"What time shall I pick you up tomorrow?" he asked. "Mama is sure to let me use her car again."
