Silver had one whole day with no accidents. It was a small miracle actually. A whole day and she hoped to add day two. So far so good. Then again the day had just began. But usually that meant nothing. She could trip before she even got out of bed. If there was a way, Silver would find it. Klutzy was just written all over her DNA. She got up and did her morning ritual. Silver could be a tad OCD in the mornings. You kind of got use to a routine when you have had one for so long.
Silver made it to school wearing a simple yellow sundress with flowers and white slip on shoes. She felt a little pretty. The dress was new and she liked it. Silver was actually smiling as she made her way into the school that morning. She felt that perhaps things were changing for her. Maybe her bad luck streak was ending. Although the concept of luck could be debated. Her bad luck could be attributed to her lack of being able to walk or simple random events that caused things to happen.
Either way Silver was having a good day. She headed to her locker wanting to get in and out so she could head to class. The sooner she got to class the better, cause then there would be less chance of embarrassment if she was sitting down at her desk. Well actually her first class was band so it was more like a chair.
Silver needed her clarinet. The instrument she played in the band. As she made her way to her locker she stopped. Apparently some guy decided to stand right in front of her locker. Great. Now she had to talk to a stranger. She walked over and tapped the guy on the shoulder, "Excuse me...thats...thats my locker..."
The guy did not answer nor did he move. She decided to tap again. "I need to get to my.....locker..." The guy kept talking to his friend ignoring Silver. She tugged her book bag in front of her holding it to her chest tightly. She tried a third time. Third time is a charm right....
So she tapped again, "My locker is behind you...please move..." But apparently she was that invisible. The guy did not move or even acknowledge her. Damn. Now she could not get her clarinet. So instead Silver just kind sunk her head down, now not feeling so great and turned to leave her locker. Of course as she turned she just so happen to be standing in someone's way. Silver looked up at the person. She hoped this person actually saw her unlike the guy by the locker.....

Yesterday had been both good and bad, and Evan could help but wishing, even with the good, that he could somehow invent some time machine, like the one in Back To The Future (awesome movies, by the way), go back in time, stop Aly and Jasper from framing them for the admittedly awesome prank, thus saving them all from having to clean the locker rooms and keeping his best bud on the soccer team. And then while he was at it, seeing as how he hypothetically went to so much effort to build the time machine in the first place, he may as well go back and visit moments in his life, like cool ones. Like when he and Patch played with the fireworks, the first time he and Brittany did woo-hoo, that movie marathon where he ate like three pounds of jelly beans in one go. Mad times.
But seeing as the machine was probably a while off, he guessed he would just have to make do with what he could now. Which meant trying to figure out a way to get Patch back to playing, sending angry glares at Aly and Jasper whenever he could, thinking of ways to get them back as much as possible, and continue sucking up to his mum for the fact that she actually believed him when he said he didn’t do anything. So, things weren’t too bad at all. Well, they were awful, really, but they could be worse. He could be grounded.
And, to continue trying to look for the positives in his otherwise sucky situation, he had actually gotten to school just a tiny bit early, so he was looking for his girlfriend to take advantage of his punctuality and pull her into a quiet corner to make out. He was having no luck finding her, but he did come across another girl. One who seemingly only he noticed.
Evan felt sorry for the girl, Silver, he remembered, on account of the guy being all jerky and such. And so he decided to try and help, just cause things were sucky for him, it didn’t mean that things should be sucky for anyone else. He took a step forward and she turned right in front, Evan almost walking straight into her.
“Hi!” he greeted cheerily, giving her a wave even though she was just in front of him. “Just one sec.” He moved around her, walking towards the guy blocking her from her locker. He took a big breath, tapping the guy on the shoulder before giving a big, booming, “Move!”
The guy turned, looked at Evan like he was a complete freak and did just that. “There you go Silver! All yours now.” he smiled, taking a step to the side.

Silver calculated the odds of the guy going left or right, and the odds of her picking the direction opposite of him so they would not play the game back and forth of staying in each others way. Then she tightened the grip on her book bag preparing for his body to slam hers just to push her out of the way, cause thats how most people worked. To lazy to make that left or right choice and just kept walking as people were pushed out of the way as a result. Mainly she was those people. Never a sorry or anything after it. Not that she expected anything actually. Silver knew who she was.
So she tightened her grip on her book bag and braced herself...She saw his body move...here it comes...just no pain please...and ....a wave...wait...a wave. Silver looked confused and moved one of her hands to give the smiling guy a weak wave and a small "Hi."
So they man had seen her thank god. When the guy said be right back she blinked and turned to watch him go. Why was he going to be right back? Of course she knew Evan Hughes. He was a legend around school for pranks and knowing how to have fun. He had bee behind the bowling thing, or rather he ad been at the bowling thing people had been talking about it. Besides she memorized the yearbook and Evan was in her grade and she knew all the juniors... so...she would know him..
Silver jumped when he spoke...loudly the word move. Her eyes were wide as he did it, but her body jumped. It was not something she had expected. Had he really just helped her? Apparently so cause next thing she new her locker was free and Evan had called out her name. She actually pointed to herself too, like an idiot...but she was an idiot in shock at the fact someone had not found her invisible. Finally.
"Thank...thank you." She said as she approached her locker. "I really did not want to go to band practice without my clarinet. The teacher would have been so mad. Then again I could have just been on drums, but my teacher is a sexist and thinks women cant play drums..." She said rambling. Mostly cause music and drums was a safe thing for her since she loved music and could play the drums.

Evan just managed to hold back his laugh as Silver looked at him dumbfounded for a moment, even pointing him herself, despite the fact that he just called her name. And it wasn’t like there were a million Silver’s running around school too. He just put it down to her not expecting him to help or something, probably because they weren’t friends and had barely spoken a word to each other before today. Well, weren’t friend until now. Evan loved making friends, it helped him enjoy his love of talking to people and being both noisy and nosy, and whether Silver realised it or not, she just made a new one. At her pointing, he nodded enthusiastically, keeping it up until she made his way over to him.
“You’re welcome!” he informed her excitedly, bouncing around on the balls of his feet. He was happy to hold off on his planned make-out session with Brittany now to stay and talk to Silver instead. Unless his hot girlfriend in question popped into view. His willpower wasn’t at good.
“You’re in the school band? Cool!” Evan was one of the few people who would say that and actually truthfully mean it. Anything to do with music was fine by him, plus he was fairly sure the band was loud, which was doubly fine with him. “Wait. You play the drums?! That’s awesome! So do I!” He said it with such excitement, as if he and Silver were the only two people in the history of the world to play that instrument, and that they had stumbled across each other was nothing short of a miracle.
The teacher had no idea what he (Evan assumed the teacher was a he, cause it seemed funny for a girl to be sexist about other girls) was talking about, Evan decided. “Nah, your teacher’s got no idea. Some of the best drummers are girls! Um, let’s see, Meg White from The White Stripes! She’s awesome. Moe Tucker from the Velvet Underground, the girl in The Donna’s, and the other girl in The Bangles. Debbi Peterson! That’s her name. Sandy West from The Runaways, she was mad in her time. Kitty from Mindless Self Indulgence. And there’s a heap more! See, women rock the drums. Some of them are even probably better than me.” he laughed, but the look on his face made it clear he was only teasing. He knew any of them could flog his skinny white ass when it came to drumming skills. But he thought he was pretty good, in his own right.
“Can I see your clarinet?” He wasn’t really good at knowing stuff about instruments that didn’t feature in popular music, so he was struggling to picture what a clarinet looked like. Or sounded like. And so naturally, as was the Evan way, he flooded her with questions. “Is it hard to play? Are you good at it? How long have you been playing? Would you like some chocolate? Got a couple of bars in my pocket.”

The guy could ramble about as well as she could, only his was, for lack of a better word, louder and she was more quite. Plus he did not stutter and she did, so again his ramble was probably preferred compared to hers. Silver was use to people interrupting her and just plain old ignoring her. Silver would love to make friends and have that natural ability to socialize.
"Yeah i love music so i joined the band in middle school and kept with it...I wanted to play the drums, but my middle school teacher said that he needed clarinet players." She could have been drums. She was given the opportunity, it was more like the teacher asked Silver if she would mind playing the clarinet since they did not have many of them and more then enough drum players. So Silver took that as she better say yes or else. Silver would not fight for her spot either way. "I like it. It plays pretty music."
She took out the clarinet box. She opened it to reveal the wooden and metal wind instrument. "When you put it together its a horizontal instrument, unlike the flute which is vertical. Its not hard to play, its really more about finger positioning then anything else. Once you get the hang of it, its not bad." She explained.
"I like the Donna's and the Bangles myself, but some of those other bands you mentioned I have never heard." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. A nervous habit she had. "The bad thing about the clarinet is the reids, is the wooden piece needed for the mouth piece." She pointed it out to him.
"I have been playing the drums since I was little. I kind of stole my brothers drum set. He had a friend's dad teach the two of us. So I have been playing for years, but I don't play in public or anything. More like in my house away from the ears....I am sure no one wants to hear me play." Silver lacked confidence.
"How long have you played the drums?" She asked just out of curiosity. "Did you know that the drum can also mean the the skeleton, bones and skull of a body. Basically the foundation of a human being...just a little random fact I know." Yeah she was the biggest dork in the world. Evan really should run now.

“That’s really cool though.” Evan told her, grinning madly, again one of the few people who would regard the ability to play the clarinet cool. “That means you can play two instruments, that’s awesome! I can only play the one, so you already beat me.” he laughed. “And the music I play, you can’t really call pretty, so you beat me again. Show off.” he teased.
As Silver opened the box, he leaned over to study the clarinet intensely, as though he was a surgeon about to operate. His attention was often wavering, so he found himself really needing to concentrate sometimes. It was nothing personal, it was as though whenever his attention did fade it meant he was bored, usually far from that actually. He just often suffered from the inability to sit still and focus on one thing at a time. His mind was usually racing about half a dozen things at any time.
“That’s purdy.” he eventually decided as he gave the instrument a once over, still impressed. So many things impressed Evan. “And it’s cool that it’s so small, so you can carry it around with you. I tried doing that with my drums once, but it didn’t really work out well.” He said this as though it had been unexpected. “Nah, I reckon it looks too tricky for me, trying to get my fingers in the right spots and everything. I’ll leave it to you, expert.”
“It’s alright, most people haven’t heard of them. I know about a lot of bands cause of my best mate, Patch. He’s awesome when it comes to knowing about good bands and stuff, he listens to a lot of music. I watch a lot of movies, so it works out well.” he laughed. Seeing Silver move the strand of hair behind her ear made him wonder about the state of his own hair, he couldn’t quite remember if he got around to combing it this morning. So as a compromise, he quickly ran his fingers through it now, thinking that should be fine. “Reids, huh? What’s bad about it? Does it taste funny?”
As well as having a great love of going crazy on a drum kit, Evan happened to enjoy watching people do the same, something he happily informed Silver of. “You should play in public! Cause everyone loves drummers, we rock!” He realised the pun as he said this, and he had to wait a few seconds for himself to stop laughing before he could continue. “I want to hear you play. I reckon you’d be good at it, especially if you’ve been playing so long. And if you can play the clarinet, drums must be easy in comparison.”
“Really, means all that? Cool, I never knew that. You must be like, really smart. Do we have any classes together? Cause I totally want to sit next to you now as much as possible.” Evan laughed. He did alright on his own work, better than alright in some subjects, but still if Silver really was smart, and he was fairly certain of it, it couldn’t hurt to get her help on stuff. This trail of thought almost made him forget what she asked him, and he found himself having to concentrate again to answer. “About a couple of years now. I need to like, do a lot, to keep me occupied. I get too bored otherwise, and a bored Evan is a dangerous one.” he grinned. “My parents told me I could learn an instrument if I wanted to, so I thought drums would be the best, cause it’s all noisy and stuff. I reckon it suits me.”
He realised now that she didn’t answer his question from earlier, which didn’t surprise him because when he got going, sometimes his words tended to blur together. He figured the answer had to be in the affirmative though, who would say no to chocolate? So he grabbed out both bars from his pocket, pressing one into her hand before getting started on his own. “Mmm, good.” he grinned, taking a bite.
“So, what class have you got first? And you wouldn’t happen to know what I have first?” He laughed at this, pausing to take another bite. Really, there was nothing better than candy.

It was like the tortoise and the hare. Evan seemed excited and moved fast, where as Silver was stuttering, and even though her rambling was fast, her energy was slow. Just an interesting comparison. Thats how Silver's mind worked. Always making weird connections. She just nodded as she closed the clarinet after Evan finished looking at it. She listened to everything he said, cause she was afraid of interrupting. Every time she opened her mouth to say something, Evan would start talking again.
Granted he had given her many chances to jump in, Silver was not the kind of girl to jump she usually needed a few moments of silence before she said anything. Just to make sure she could talk. Silver was about to speak up when he said playing in public. Her...playing in public. Yeah right. She would probably be boo'd before she had a chance to play. Silver was petrified of playing in public.
Silver did not actually speak until Evan gave her a candy bar and asked about classes. She did not know where to begin. SO she started at the beginning. "The reid's break easily. So they are a pain to replace. its thin and flimsy really. Plus it tastes like wood." She shrugged.
"As for playing in public, I am sure no one would want to hear me. I would probably just bore everyone. I really just like playing behind closed doors. I am sure you play better then me anyway. Sure I have been playing for ten plus years, but I doubt I am that good. Its more therapeutic." Silver was never confident in her playing and she should be cause she was damn good. Only someone needed to tell her that."You are very nice. Could show you how I play, maybe for you and your friends, just not in public." She offered. She did not want to totally offend Evan by dissing his compliment about playing in public.
"I am kind of smart. I read a lot about useless and random facts. Like did you know Odontophobia is the fear of teeth. Or that you burn more calories sleeping than you do watching TV. One of my favorites is The Baby Ruth candy bar was actually named after Grover Cleveland's baby daughter, Ruth." Silver started to laugh as if what she just told Evan was funny. "I like the last one. Cause its so random."
Her laugh turned into a snort and that when she calmed down, cause that was kind of embarrassing. Nothing new. She always manage to embarrass herself, and snorting was a way to do it. So she just looked down for a moment and then looked up after regaining her composure from embarrassment. "As for classes...we um..have the first four classes together. We have Band, Typing, American History and Calculus together. I um... actually sit next to you in Calculus." She commented. "Other then that I am usually in the corner some where. Thanks for the candy bar."

“Me, nice? Nah. Don’t go spreading that around and running my rep.” Evan teased with a laugh. “If you’ve been playing that long, you have to be good. Makes sense. You’re just, what’s the word...modest! Yeah, that’s it, modest! I’m sure you’re awesome. So I’d love to hear you play sometime, me and my friends, it’ll be cool! The clarinet and the drums too, I don’t mind you being better than me at it.” Evan laughed. “Cause, yeah, you’ve been playing for a super long time, and I haven’t. I reckon there’s gotta be something I can do better than you though. Dunno what. Maybe juggling? I can juggle five chocolate bars at one time, while eating a sixth. That’s pretty impressive, huh?”
“Wow, you are like really, really smart.” Evan decided, even more impressed by that than he was by his chocolate juggling skills. After all, if you put in a bit of effort, it might take around a day to become a good juggler. But being smart, and knowing lots of stuff, he was fairly sure it would take a lot longer than that. A month, at least. And it was also really boring, whereas chocolate juggling was always fun. Especially if he was able to stop himself eating the chocolate long enough to actually get to the juggling.
“Haha, that is awesome! I like knowing stuff about chocolate. I kinda like my chocolate, and my candy, in case you haven’t worked that out by now. I like Baby Ruth, but I always thought it had something to do with Babe Ruth. See, not as smart as you.” Evan admitted with a grin, not at all put out by this. “It’ll be awesome to have a candy bar named after me. Like The Evan or something. Unless it wasn’t really good. Like if it had sultanas in it. Nah, it should have marshmallow in it or something. Maybe some caramel.”
If Silver was embarrassed, it completely went over Evan’s head. And if he had realised she was, he would be completely confused as to why. He was starting to think she was pretty cool. “We do, really? The first four? Wow, sorry, that’s probably really bad for me, not realising and all.” he decided, looking more than a little sheepish. “And sorry about Calculus too. But nothing personal, I actually kinda try not to pay attention to anything in that class.” he laughed. “But you do realise you just dobbed yourself in. I’m so gonna bug you in all the classes now. It’ll be fun! And you’re welcome.”
The mention of the chocolate reminded him it was time to take another bite, and he made himself finish it before talking again. He was getting good at that. “Ok then, let’s walk to class together.”
