Kye yawned as he walked through the parking lot. Of course his sister had detention. He loved the girl dearly, but she was also the most scatter-brained person that he knew. And now he’d have to find something to entertain himself with while he waited for her…again. He supposed he could go home, text Lan and she could take the bus. She wouldn’t care, but Kye didn’t exactly have a life outside of his sister either. Anyone he usually talked to talked to her first anyway.
Kye tended to think of himself as a pretty pathetic guy. He was 16 years old and he really had virtually no life…no friends. He just didn’t fit in. He wasn’t cool enough to hang out with the popular kids and he had nothing in common with the nerds. One would have thought that he’d have found someone in-between to relate to, but instead he tended to hide in his younger sister’s shadow, which made him feel even more pathetic half the time.
He walked up to his own VW bus, which looked ridiculous as a vehicle to drive to school, but Kye liked it anyway. It was huge and the back hand been emptied out, a blanket laid down and some pillows. He and Landon liked to lay in there when they were particularly annoyed with their mother and her boyfriend. It was there way of getting away. Kye opened up the back and sat down, leaving the back open, with one leg dangling out the back as he sat, leaning against a red and gold decorative pillow. He was dressed casually in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles T-shirt, jeans, Vans sneakers, and a charcoal gray beanie that covered his hair. He adjusted his black plastic framed glasses and pulled out a cigarette and lit up, blowing the smoke into little circles because he was bored.
The parking lot had been semi-cleaned out, but there were still a lot of cars, probably students staying after for activities. Some maybe had just taken awhile to get their things together and leave…some perhaps staying after to make plans with friends. Whatever they were doing, Kye watched as everyone around him slowly left, one by one, as he took long drags of his cigarette.

Braedan was ecstatic to be able to head for the door, he had, had the worst day of his life at this school so far. Xavier had got to him far more than he had let on during the arguments in the principles office about who did what. Not that it actually mattered in the end, he thought it was a bit idiotic to be punished for responding to an provoked attack by Goodwin, to the same extent as the idiot.
But then again he wasn't the one who was likely going to be heading for the ER to sort out his nose, if he hadn't already done so. His Goodwin free zone after the final bell had been a god send, he could handle his mothers shouting about him getting into trouble. He was used to the look of disappointment she would give them when something like this happened. No need for an explanation their either he thought, the woman would likely ask for one then brand him in the same group as Goodwin anyway. He was determined as he approached his car to take a long drive around town before heading home, banging out loud music as he did so.
The image of a VW van parked up next to his own car brought a smile to his face, apparently someone didn't mind being ribbed about having something that old in the student parking lot. It wouldn't have looked out of place in the teachers parking lot for that matter. He unlocked his car, opening the door to lock the wing down, he didn't really need that right at this very moment. Plus it made driving more fun, he walked around the back of the car to see a bespectacled boy laying in the back of the van.
At least Goodwin hadn't damaged his car, he doubted the little tosser knew what he drove but that didn't stop him worrying about it anyway.
"You can't be that comfortable sat in the back of that thing." Braedan said as he checked everything out. "You have to have something better to do than sit here in a parking lot to." Braedan said to him curiously.

Kye glanced over at the other boy, the one with the Bugatti. He knew that cars like that were supposed to be impressive, but Kye had never really been into the whole super car thing. He thought they were mostly for old men with really small penises or young rich kids who just wanted to flaunt their money. That had sort of been the beauty of the VW bus. Of course it was run down since VW didn't even make them anymore, but it was sort of perfect that way. Sure, Kye could have afforded any car he wanted. Maybe his mother wasn't raking in tons of money but then again she never had been. But his grandparents were ridiculously wealthy and tended to dote on them even though they rarely visited or even talked to them....another beautiful thing, since Kye wasn't a huge fan of his grandparents.
"Nah, its actually really comfortable," he responded, taking another drag of his cigarette. And it was comfortable. In fact, when they'd moved last year from San Francisco, he and Landon had even put a mattress in the back, prolonging the day of driving and making it a few, stopping at different places on the way. They had even discussed ditching out on moving altogether since their mother had taken a separate route. They'd talked about just taking off and finding somewhere on their own, but then had decided that they really had nowhere else to go since they didn't exactly support themselves. Sure they could have taken off to New York where their grandparents were, that certainly would have pissed their mom off, but their mother had seemed like the lesser evil then. However the more Kye and Landon got to know their mother's boyfriend over the last year, he knew that they both were second guessing that decision now.
He didn't really recognize the other boy...probably a Silver kid, since Kye could pick out the Gould ones for the most part. He'd been around for about a year so even though he was quiet and most people only knew him as Landon's brother, he tended to at least know who people were, whether he talked to them much or not.
Kye raised his eyebrows slightly (not that you could tell since he had glasses on as well as a knit beanie that his this fact) when the other boy pointed out that he should have something better to do than just sit there and smoke. It was as if he was pointing out that Kye was a loser. He supposed that was no news there. Kye was definitely a loser. Even he knew that. And maybe most people would have better things to do than wait around for their siblings, but Kye didn't.
"Nah," he just said with a slight shrug, taking another drag and flicking some ash onto the parking lot. "I'm waiting for my sister, she got detention," he said simply.

Braedan smiled, "I'll have to take your word on that, I prefer something that has a back to it that isn't metal... a little to ruff for me." Braedan said smiling. "Nothing against your van though, I would take the van over this thing." Braedan said. "I would actually quite happily swap this in for something less flashy if I could." Braedan admitted with a flush of embarrassment.
He leant back agains what would have normally been the boot of the car and sighed rubbing his temples, he really did not want to go back to the house and deal with his mother who would no doubt be pissed as hell that he had managed to land himself in hot water with the schools biggest jerk. She would probably use the situation to force him to attend service on saturday, it was moments like this that made him want to curse his temper. When the boy brought up his sister being in detention and that was the reason behind him staying and waiting. Braedan flashed a smile of understanding.
"I get that at least, the things we do for our siblings." Braedan said. "I was just going to drive around town until the last possible moment. Would you mind some company?" he asked turning to look at the other guy.

Kye just shrugged, the metal not really bothering his back. Although he supposed that he was used to it. "I do have a pillow," he pointed out. The pillow did help even though it was small. He wasn't quite sure that he believed the other boy when he said that he'd gladly switch cars. He probably assumed that Kye was poor because of what he drove, maybe he was even pitying him. And Kye didn't really blame him. He certainly didn't look rich. He didn't wear expensive clothes or drive and expensive car, he looked poor. But he was okay with that. He didn't want flaunt it. But if he needed money, he knew he always had as much as he wanted available to him.
He watched as the other guy leaned back against his car as if he was reluctant to leave. Kye didn't know why. It was rare that anyone was interested in talking to him at all. They usually saved those conversations for his sister, saying hello to him out of politeness, then ignoring his presence. Kye had grown used to it. He didn't like it of course, but it was comfortable, what he expected.
"Oh, do you have a sibling in detention?" Kye asked as he threw his cigarette on the ground and slid his body down so he could step on it before pushing himself back up to wear he was sitting. "I um...guess that's okay," Kye said, a little surprised that the other guy wanted to hang out with him. No one really did usually, except for Landon of course. "I'm Kye by the way," he said a little awkwardly as he pulled out another cigarette. He usually didn't chain smoke but he wasn't really sure what to do now. He was just so awkward... So smoking another cigarette at least gave him something to do. "Want one?" he asked, holding out the box to the other boy, not sure if he smoked or not.

Braedan grinned at him, "No they weren't in detention today for once that was me." Braedan said with a shake of his head. "I took offence to someone slamming me in to a locker this morning, so I might have accidentally on purpose head butted said person. Who may or may not have absolutely deserved getting the sense knocked out of him." Braedan said. "Said person put gay porn and condomns in my locker this morning after I kicked his ass in a boxing ring yesterday. This was his idea of revenge for what he must see as an insult to his male libido... or what ever the word is." he said struggling to find the right word in English.
Braedan listened his eyes closed for a moment until he catched the boys name, he opened his eyes and looked at him, "Nice to meet you Kye, I'm Braedan." Braedan introduced himself politely then he was offered a cigarette. "Thank you but no thank you, I'm expecting to have my ass handed to me when I get home, I go home smelling like smoke and I won't see the outside world until I reach graduation." Braedan said to him. "Actually I don't know why I'm worried about that, my mothers probably out with her new toy boy or something. But I should pass up on the fag, I have never smoked in my life... so you could have a good laugh as I try my first cigarette." Braedan said

Kye nodded as the other boy explained he'd been the one in detention today. He didn't think detention was over yet but maybe he'd had an earlier one, like a lunch detention or something. Kye listened to the story but couldn't really relate. He knew that he'd never win in a fight, nor would anyone try to get back at him for anyone since he never really did anything to anyone. But the boy seemed chatty and was actually being nice to him, so Kye was in no position to turn him away. "That sucks," he said simply, not sure how much input the other boy was looking for.
"Nice to meet you," Kye said with a simple nod, making a mental note of the other boy's name, Braedan. "Yeah...I guess I can see that," he said when Braedan mentioned getting in trouble for smoking. Really though, he couldn't relate to that either as he took a drag of his cigarette. His mom didn't really care what he or his sister did. They sort of had raised themselves.
"Eh, first one you might cough a little, but its not too bad," he shrugged, when it seemed Braedon was on the fence about trying it. "Are you sure you don't want to try it. Calming...or at least I think so..."

Braedan eyed the cigarette box like it was likely to be something to calm his freyed nerves, in all honesty the temptation had never been there for him to try something like that. "Oh what the hell I might as well have more than earned the hell that is heading my way, than to have just about managed to earn her scorn. It will let the whole family know that she still remembers she has children." Braedan said to him. "Sure I'll take one." Braedan said to him with a smile. If it wasn't for the wing on the back of the car he would have hopped on the back, but he doubted that would have been a very good idea.
He settled for leaning up against the van it seemed that if he was going to talk to Kye he should at least be able to make proper eye contact with them. The boy seemed nice enough, down to earth somewhat he thought. The boy obviously wasn't embarrassed by his choice of wheels, more to the point Braedan thought why would someone be embarrassed about their choice of vechile. He hated that people could see he had money because of what he drove, like he had said to Kye he would have been happy with something with a 0 knocked of it or two for for that matter. This gave people the wrong impression of him which he hated, but their were times when he didn't help that image much either.
'I will not become my mother.' he muttered to himself.
"I got introduced to a new form of punishment today, what you Americans call in school suspension. If you need some thing to keep you humble, spend your lunch hour cleaning up after your peers. Some have manners and eating habbits that would be enough to make a dog blush." Braedan said with a smile.

"Sure," Kye said, holding out the box of cigarettes, waiting for the other boy to take one. Once he had it, Kye tossed him his silver zippo lighter. He took another drag of his cigarette. He knew they were bad for him, but he sort of didn't care. He liked smoking. It relaxed him. He didn't really get the whole getting in trouble due to smoking though. Sure he was underage, not legally allowed to buy cigarettes but people usually sold them to him anyway, or if they gave him the hard time, they usually sold them to his sister, because she was pretty and could flirt with the check out guys.
Kye couldn't help but laugh when the other boy mumbled about not wanted to be his mother. "I hear that," he said. The last thing he wanted was to be his mother...and endless string of relationships, changing her entire life for the guy of the moment, or girl for him. Still, he's never actually had a girlfriend either, so he was pretty sure that he was well on his way to not being his mother. He didn't really want to be his sister either, as much as he loved the girl to death, she had an endless string of hook ups...lots of meaningless sex, which she insisted on talking about even though he didn't really want to hear about it. If anything, Kye just strove to be normal, as impossible as that sounded.
"Ah suspension. I never really understood suspension myself," Kye admitted. "I guess its bad if you have strict parents...if you get in trouble for it, but for me its always just been a couple days off from school where I could do whatever I wanted," he shrugged. Kye wasn't usually the type of guy who got into lots of trouble but he and Landon had been caught last year with smoking up on campus and had gotten a weeks suspension each. It had actually been loads of fun. They'd spent the week shopping and laying out on the beach. Their mother hadn't even noticed that they weren't in school, but then again that was typical for his mother.
"Cleaning up? That sounds like far less fun than not being allowed in school. Is that what they do where you're from? Where are you from anyway?" he asked, trying to judge from the accent. It was hard telling sometimes because so many accents sounded so similar.

Braedan lit the cigarette and took a drag contemplating what his mother would say and realising that at least to some degree he didn't actually care what she said. As examples went she did not really set a good one for him or his siblings. He coughed as he inhaled making a face, this would probably be the only time he did this. He stood watching the street for a little while, Kye wasn't someone he would normally hang out with, but then their were always exception to that rule he thought anyway.
He knew how it was to be different in school, he was not American he didn't sound American for that matter. His mixed heritage meant that even in his birth country he would sometimes be looked upon as an outsider. None of this really bothered him, he was old enough and big enough to take what ever people really wanted to throw at him. That is at least what he told himself, even if it wasn't necessarily true all of the time. Today had been his fault, he could have walked away and not given Goodwin the pleasure of getting a rise to him. Then he would have been seen as weak and actually given heed to the rumours about his sexuality that would likely have started if he had walked away.
"My mother is normally only strict when their is a new man in her life, she likes to be seen as the perfect mother. So yes at the moment I suspect that she is going to be quite strict, at least if what I suspect is true." Braedan explained with a wire smile he held nothing but contempt for most of the men that entered his mothers live.
How they expected to stay in it for more than a few months or a year at most was beyond him, she had more ex-husbands than most people had hot dinners in a week. As track records go even her younger children knew she sucked at relationships since their parents split up.
"I was born in Poland, but I am a dual national... my father is Polish my mother is Spainish. Before my parents split and we moved here with my mother we lived in Spain. The American schooling system is confusing, back home I would have been suspended from school not kept in it for an internal suspension. I'll survive the punishment, the question is whether or not the fool who is in this mess with me will try to further the issues we had today." he explained taking a drag from the cigarette remembering he had it in between his fingers and inhaled not feeling like he was going to cough up a second time.
