Tina woke early and walked Maggie May on the area her father had designated dog-friendly. The enthusiastic Rottweiler was already able to drag Tina around, but luckily was hungry so didn’t mind shortening the walk to head to the kitchen where Tina fed and gave her fresh water. The cook wasn’t in the kitchen which led her to think Tyler wasn’t much of a breakfast person.
Well that would have to change. Tina made apple-cinnamon pancakes, sausage links and some fresh orange juice and coffee. She got one of the maids to help her carry everything out to the pool house. Knocking loudly, she yelled, “Come on Tyler, time to get up! You said you would drive me today!” Maggie May had followed her and was jumping making excited noises. Tina examined the lock and pulled a small tool kit from her pocket and proceeded to pick the lock, ignoring the maid’s horrified expression. Pushing open the door, Tina was grateful that Tyler was alone as Maggie jumped up to join him and clean his face enthusiastically. The food was put on a table and then Tina began to open the curtains, avoiding looking around as there seemed to be as many items of female clothing as there were of Tylers.

It took ten minutes for Tina to realize that Tyler wasn't under the mass of blankets on his bed. She was so mad that she rewarded Maggie with a sausage after she peed on his bed. She did tell the maid to change the sheets because she didn't want Maggie blamed for the mishap. She ate and then dressed, but had the housekeeper call the school to excuse her. Tyler had promised to take her and she was not going to go in by herself. She called Marcus and didn't hesitate blaming her half brother for her truancy. She hadn't wanted to leave Maggie May alone anyway.

After his time with Maggy, which wasn’t as long as he would have liked which Tyler had expected, the girl seemed uncomfortable being around him so publicly, he couldn’t help but shake the thought that he had other plans too. He just couldn’t remember what or with who. He assumed it was a girl, which was most likely correct as nearly all of his plans involved the fairer sex. Or maybe he was just getting his wires crossed, and the nagging feeling was just because he had forgotten something else, maybe left something at home.
Then it dawned on him. He did leave something, or rather, someone, at home. Annoyance flashed on the footballer’s face as he slammed his locker shut, glancing at his watch. He could go home and get Tina now, he didn’t mind missing a class, but the girl was probably already on her way, or even at school. Classes were about to start and she would have surely noticed his absence by now. Well, most girls, but he couldn’t imagine her wanting to get one of the help to drop her off, or catch a taxi. Which left it up to him. His father wasn’t going to be impressed when he found out.
Which he did, sooner than Tyler would have thought, given the not so pleased phone call he received from his father on his way back to his car. Getting off the phone as soon as he could, he rushed home, plastering an apologetic look on his face when he arrived and found his half sister.
“Not even one day and I’m already bad at this.” he smiled a little, cocking his head in an attempt to charm her too. “I’m sorry Tina. I’ve got no excuses really. It’s my....friend’s birthday, and I let everything else slip my mind. But let me make it up to you. Let’s go to school now, it doesn’t matter if we’re late a little, trust me. We’ll pick up something sugary to eat along the way too. And how about we have lunch together? If I can find them, I have a couple of friends I would really like to introduce you to.”

Tina managed to look miserable as she forgave Tyler with a tremble of her lips and a soft shine to her dark eyes. "It's okay, birthdays are important," she said in a quiet voice. She did want to meet his friends, so this was good compensation. "Can we get croissantwiches at Burger King? I love the ham ones. I am not so much a sugary breakfast person, it makes me sleepy about eleven." She was looking very pretty and feminine in her new silk shirt that softly clung to her curves and the jeans that showed off her long slender legs. She wore the bare minimum of make up, to just accent her features. She walked alongside her brother and close together like that you could see a resemblance though it was not an obvious one. "Who would i be meeting? What are they like?" she asked, for information was power.

His efforts in charming Tina paid off, as he knew they would, and Tyler smiled warmly at his half-sister as she forgave him. Next time he offered to drop her off at school, he would have to try and remember to do so. He doubted she would be in forgiving mood if he forgot a second time. Nor would his father. It was a hassle, all these new responsibilities he found himself having with the arrival of the girl. And he was usually very much a carefree sort of guy. Not that it was much now, but to someone used to doing whatever he wanted all of the time, having to consider someone else part of the time was an effort he was not yet used to.
“Burger King it is then.” he agreed, amused by the choice. Out of everything she could pick, she chose a mass-market fast food joint and grease. Though he did love a hash brown. “That’s where we differ. I don’t have breakfast often, but when I do, it usually is all sugar.” he confessed, laughing. “I know, not very healthy of me.”
At his car, he opened the passenger door and waited for her to get in before doing the same himself, starting to head to the nearest Burger King. “Sloane and Bree, probably my two closest female friends. Who I don’t sleep with.” Tyler added with a wry grin. “Sloane, well, she could be described as a female version of me, I suppose. So of course I think highly of her.” the footballer grinned. “She even shares my taste in women too. And if Sloane’s my copy, I suppose you could consider Bree as a kind of opposite. She’s a bit more shy, reserved, but very popular, mind you. She’s a cheerleader, quite influential. Just the sort of girl you would do well to befriend. I’m sure you’ll like them both.”

Tina was pleased at how easily Tyler told her about his friends. Sloane sounded a bit frightening, but Bree might be worth cultivating. “Oh Marcus told me last night he wants me to get you to teach me to drive and help me pick out a car, he doesn’t want me missing school when you have ‘morning appointments’ he said. It was cute he actually blushed. His wife said, “oh that boy!” I’m surprised he picked someone so prudish. She seems nice though, offered to take me to all the good stores and establish accounts for me. I get the feeling she wants to dress me up like a China Doll though.” There was a hint of complaint in her tone at this. Since Tina’s personal style tended towards hard edge normally she didn’t really want to have to struggle through ruffles and lace.
The burger place was close so she didn’t have to think up too much conversation. “I think I would like a Jaguar XKR in black, Are we eating in?” she asked as they pulled in the driveway.

“Sure, no problem.” Tyler nodded, not surprised that the job fell to him. He didn’t mind too much though, there were far worse things than giving the girl a few lessons, and car shopping. Maybe he should take a look himself for something new, maybe in black. Or red, girls seemed to like red cars. Not that he needed help in attracting female attention. “Well, as far as I know, I’m free tomorrow afternoon, I should be able to take you out for a lesson then. Or during lunch at school, I’m sure we could find the time. I’m sure you’ll learn quickly, us Durnhams, we’re naturals.” he laughed. “You’ll love driving.”
His father’s, and his step-mother’s, reactions were not surprising to him. “Well, he’s mellowed out in his old age.” the footballer grinned, knowing full well that not so long ago, his father was exactly how he was now. Like father, like son after all. Tyler wondered if that meant the same would happen to him eventually, if he would be content to settle down. The thought was slightly depressing, though, his old man seemed more than happy to come home to the same women every night. Maybe one day, when he was approaching his forty’s. Had to keep the family name going after all.
“Holly’s usually not so proper. I think she just wants to make a good impression on you. And she’s worried that my ways are something that you might not be impressed with.” Tyler wasn’t concerned, so he didn’t think the woman should be. He had never cared what people thought about him, unless it was in a highly positive light, of course. He would never let someone’s views get in the way of doing whatever he wanted to. China Doll, that sounds about right.” Laughing at her reaction, he shook his head a little. “Don’t worry about it. Good impression.” he reminded Tina. “She’s managed to talk me into joining her for shopping trips. I’m glad this means I get a break now. But don’t worry, she has great taste. When she works out what you like, I think you’ll be happy with what she picks out.”
“Jaguar XKR? Nice choice.” Tyler commented, interest creeping into his voice. It seemed black was out for him then. “Well, we’ll get in a few lessons, and we’ll go out on the weekend, have a look.” The money side of things didn’t even occur to him. His whole life, money had never been an issue, something he had to think about. If he wanted something, he could have it. And now it would be the same for Christina.
“Sure, let’s eat in.” he agreed after a quick glance at his watch. There was no point in turning up halfway through the first class. If there were to miss it, they may as miss the whole class. Parking next to a minivan, trying to get as far away from it as possible, he tried not to think about kids thoughtlessly opening the doors and scratching his pride and joy. And as he got out and walked around the car to open Tina’s door, he tried not to think about it still. “I can’t remember the last time I ate at Burger King.”

Tina was very relieved to hear their stepmother was not as prim and proper as she had seemed. "So she likes to dress you up too? Maybe we should go together so we each only have to take half as much." Walking inside, she ordered a croissantwich meal with extra hash browns and orange juice. She went to sit at a free table, crossing a leg over the other and giving a friendly smile to a boy who was obviously late for school as well.Through discreet charades she told him she went to gould and he managed to convey that his school mascot was the wolverines. They were starting to work on email addies when Tyler showed up. She didn't even have to tell the other boy to stop once he saw how large her escort was.
Tina grabbed her juice and took a large sip. To her Tyler was her beautiful beloved brother and it was hard to view him as intimidating, but observing the way others behaved around him was giving her an idea. "Tyler, I would like to start taking Tae Kwon Do again, do you know if there is a good place to learn around here? I would like a place that emphasizes discipline rather than power."

Amused by her order, Tyler suggested to Tina that she find a table while he waited for it. He watched idly as she sat, before turning back to face the counter. And catching the eye of a girl currently looking more than a little bored, wearing a very unflattering Burger King shirt. Maybe a college student, he guessed, trying to make a few extra bucks. He was glad he would only have to work if he wanted to. He liked what he saw, and from the changed look on her face, he wasn’t the only one.
Returning to his sister’s side a few minutes later, with their order and the employee’s number now added to his phone, he placed the tray down as he sat, not oblivious to the guy trying his best not to look at Tina. Compared to twenty seconds prior when Tyler first saw him staring at the girl, and her making no effort not to stare back. Maybe the girl was more like him than he realised.
He said nothing about it though, not sure what he thought about the idea of his sister dating, or at least chatting up, guys. He couldn’t be a hypocrite, he had more than his fair share of women, but something about the thought of some sleaze with his hands on his sister made Tyler uneasy. And she was too young to date, he decided. Ignoring the fact that he was much younger than her when women first stirred his interest.
“Well, I don’t know one off the top of my head, but I’m sure there is one close by. It’s California after all, you can find everything here.” he laughed, looking just a little out of place, in his expensive clothes, sitting at the small table. “We’ll find you one, might as well make good use out of your new-found driving skills, when you get to learning.” He reached over, breaking off some of a hash brown to eat, thinking it over. “And if you’d like something else to do after school, I could speak to Bree about getting you into the cheerleading squad. I think it’s quite a while till tryouts, but I’m sure I can charm her into making an exception, if you like.”
