"So, where shall we go?" he asked. "Dressed like this I suppose we are a bit limited," he added with a wry smile.
They settled on a Spanish theme in keeping with their costumes although Christophe opted to leave the mask and hat - as well as cape - in the car. He also dropped the plastic sword onto the back seat for good measure.
El Cid. Hardly an imaginative name for the restaurant but the sound of flamenco music drifted out through the open door, making it seem pretty authentic at least.
"They will probably get you up dancing," he teased Lia as they entered inside.
The pair were led across the room and towards a remote booth and they were soon studying a menu card apiece. "I am no good at Spanish," he admitted. "We should have gone to a French place instead," he added with a laugh. "You will need to translate for me I think." The card didn't seem to have each dish's English equivalent. "Pollo... that's chicken, isn't it?" Lia assured him it was. "Then I think I will play safely and have the pollo mole. How about you?" he asked his companion. "Are you more adventurous than me?" That wouldn't be difficult!

Lia grinned at Christophe. "My brother's delight in daring me to eat things because as long as it is legitimate food, I will not say no. My uncle says I should become a diplomat because I have a cast iron stomach. I will have the stuffed peppers vegetariano even though it is not much of a test because I try to stick to vegetarian when I can. Ooh look they do murder mysteries here," She said handing him the card that had fallen from her menu. She had never done one before, but it looked like fun.
"Ugh, I have a test on the Indus Valley Civilization tomorrow.I hope there is something more interesting after we are done with them. I enjoyed the Babylonians," she said, wondering what it would be like to study world history in Europe.

"A test is never good," he replied. "Least of all one on a topic you have little interest in but I am sure you will do well, Llyria," he assured her.
"But murder mysteries? Like Agatha Christie and the Orient Express?" Lia nodded. "That sounds like it would be fun!" He peered at the flyer that had been left on the table. "They have one next weekend..." He glanced up at Lia... "What do you say? Are you up for some mysterious murders?" He, for one, would definitly like to take part. "Maybe we can get some of the others to join us. Does it say where they hold it?"
He looked further down the flyer. "A large mansion just behind the restaurant." Christophe grinned. "Sounds perfect... and romantic, huh?"
Theur meals arrived at that moment and they paused in their conversation but the French teen was still very keen on the event next weekend... and if they could talk some of their friends into attending as well...? Then all the better. We could ask Izzy and Takumi. Maybe your brother?" Jandro, of course. Christophe wasn't sure her blind brother would be able to cope with the evening. "And anyone else we can think of... Not that I know many people." Kian, Connor and Evan, of course.

Lia was equally enthusiastic about the following weekend. "Maybe if we get a bunch of people we could get a discount?"she suggested as she took his hand after he was suggesting the mansion was romantic. Personally she thought a dairy farm would be romantic if Christophe was there. He was that dangerous combination of handsome and charming.
"Christophe, I'm sorry my friends assumed we were dating. I didn't say anything like that to them. I would never assume anything like that. In our school everyone just seems to assume if you see someone more than once that you're dating," she apologized, still worried that he might be completely turned off by the idea.
Lia could barely look at her date she was so afraid his expression would be disgusted or even worse, amusement at the thought anyone would date her in a relationship way. She had not had good luck with boys. She was coming to accept that they could only view her as a friend. Her mother was doomed to never have grandchildren.

"A discount?" He frowned, his face clearing when he realised what she'd meant. "Ah... a cheaper price, right?" Lia nodded. "It would definitely be worth asking. I will call them tomorrow and see if I can... negotiate," he added with a wink.
He listened as Lia went on to apologise about the dating comments and he shook his head. "C'est tout bon, Llyria," he assured her. "Really, it is fine. We were sort of on a date, eh?" He grinned. "And we still are, are we not? Now, what would you like to drink? Remember, dinner is my treat. After all, if we are on a date then I refuse to allow you to pay for your own meal!"
Drinks were ordered and arrived soon afterwards. Christophe had opted for apple juice. He would have asked for it to be warmed had he been back in Paris but wasn't so sure he felt that degree of confidance to do so now. "I have had a great day, Llyria," he said and he covered her hand with his, much as she'd done in reverse moments ago. "I hope you will agree to go out with me again one day... and soon. Perhaps we could even go out on the water..."

Lia ordered a Virgin' Sangria, basically a fruit punch that had grape juice rather than wine."In the summer sometimes Elliot lends me his keys to his speed boat, maybe we could rent some para-sailing gear. My brothers are too cowardly to go with me, but it is soo much fun. I know you would be good at it. Elliot is my mom's current lover and he is trying to suck up so she will agree to marry him. She likes her independence though, I don't think she will ever marry again" Lia said with a moue of her lips. Lia was not as independent, part of it was from being a twin and part from spending summers with her more traditional Spanish relatives. There was almost always a wedding every summer and Lia tended to be rather romantic in inclination. "Yes we are on a date, but there is dating and then there is DATING exclusively which is what they were implying. And since you are French as you pointed out when we met, I doubt you want to tie yourself down so quickly. You will have plenty of choices for you are a Catch."
The waiter came back with a platter of Tapas, Spanish appetizers and set it on the table. "The manager would like you to have these with his compliments for dining with us in costume,"he said with a smile before leaving.
Lia thanked the man and smiled before taking a breaded ball which she dipped in pesto. It turned out to be a vegetable croquette which was delicious. "Mmm these are good," she said holding one out to Christophe. After bowling she really was hungry now that she could smell food.Looking closely at the inside she thought she could figure out how to make these or at least find a recipe on the net.

"That would be great!" Christophe replied. "I have not tried para-sailing myself. The sea off the coast coast of northern France and Vancouver is very cold so I would very much like to try that here." Lia went on to clarify the meaning of 'date' and Christophe nodded to let her know he fully understood. "Exclusive. Yes, I know that word," he assured her. "I wouldn't see being with you as a thether, though," he added with a wink. "But can see why you would like the freedom to choose who you went out with. I hope you will agree to see me again at some time, though, as I have liked being with you today." The waitress left the platter along with her explanation and Christophe threw Lia a broad grin. "Free food also? We are doing very well today, n'est ce pas? Next time maybe we should dress as bandits and try the Mexican place we passed on our way here," he added with a laugh. He tried one of the pieces of food and nodded his agreement. "Very good indeed," he confirmed. "Although I admit to not being all that sure what is inside. Still, I like it!" They chatted amicably over their meal and the atmosphere was relaxed and easy. Christophe couldn't honestly work out why Lia wasn't already dating someone properly as she was good company. He could understand her reluctance to commit to much more with him, though, as he was older. She probably preferred boys of her own age but if she would agree to the odd date here and now then he would be content. (did you want to continue or assume this wrapped? I'm easy with either )

Lia flushed when Christophe assumed she wasn't interested in being exclusive with him. Now how did she let him know she was without sounding desperate. The movies made this stuff look so much easier. He would just say he liked her and couldn't stand the thought of her being with anyone else. She would say she felt the same and they would kiss, preferably out on the beach with the surf roaring behind them. Everything was better on the beach, she thought wondering if he would like to take a walk before he dropped her off home. "Or we could wear berets and those black and white striped shirts that those dancers wore in Paris... oh its annoying I should remember what they were called. They slapped each other around, it was kind of strange. Then we could go to a French Restaurant and you could translate for me. You would be tres sexy I think in a beret. And by the way, I think I would not mind being exclusive with you. It is fun being with you. Would you like to walk along the beach before we call it a night?" she asked, breathless with her own bravery.
