Zach rolled into the hospital lobby waiting room, smiling as his eyes met those of his dad, mom and sister Kendall. He couldn’t help but look for another family member who would not have been so welcome, but luckily Uncle Marsh was not there, which was not surprising as he was the focus of an International manhunt at the moment. He had not been seen since he had fled after attacking Zach. Ensconced in his new power chair, Zach looked much smaller than the young man who had been walking tall earlier in the week. He was trying to convince his mother to let him transfer schools. He couldn’t face the curiosity or the pity he was afraid he would see in his school mates’ eyes or even worse indifference like he had seen in Jefferson’s. No more baseball for Zach, even though it was all he lived for, between seasons were hell, what now that he didn’t even have training to look forward to. Now he would cook and hope that food could ease the pain and emptiness of his miserable life.
For the first time of getting Zach into his handicap equipped van, they did well and everyone was relieved when he had no problems operating the lift or the van while he sat in his chair the entire time. His dad suggested they get food on the way home since they had all missed dinner waiting for the doctor to sign the checkout papers. Because of Zach’s new diet, fast food was going to be a problem, but Kendall had done some research and suggested Waba Grill Teriyaki house. She called ahead and ordered several beef/veggie plates and several chicken/veggie plates. Zach parked on the street and Kendall ran inside to get the food which turned out to be delicious despite being really low fat. Once they arrived home, dinner was swiftly eaten and then Zach retired to his room, where he sent texts to everyone on his list that he was home. The only person he wanted to talk to, didn’t want to talk to him so he thought texting was wiser. After a bit, Kendall came up and challenged him to Clue which they played until he was too tired to roll the dice anymore.
