Jonah pushed a stray strand of hair out of Saint's eyes and smiled at the boy, even though he couldn't see. "I'll be a phone call away. Enjoy your night with your mother, alright?" Leaning forward, Jonah captured Saint's lips with his in a short but searing kiss that left both the boys breathless. It was a good thing Saint's mother was in the kitchen so she wasn't witness to the moment the two boys were sharing. With the hand that cupped his boyfriend's cheek, Jonah slid it down across the other boy's neck and to his chest where his heart was. "Te amo, Santos. Forever." He put his emotions into the words he uttered, meaning every single word.
After calling out for his mom to take Saint in, Jonah left the people he had accepted as family and went to the house he never called home. The reason for the trip was simple. He wanted to give his father the money he had received from the Juarez family so the old man can survive without Jonah being there the whole time. But the closer he got to the place, the faster his heart beat. It had been about two weeks since he last came back. His father hadn't reported Jonah missing nor had he heard from anyone about his father's condition, whatever that was.
Jonah wasn't afraid his father was dead. He was more afraid his father wasn't and the moment he was to step into the house, he would get the beating of his life. It had happened once for a trivial thing, who was to stop the older Finn from ending Jonah's life now? The grip he had on the money bag tightened as he saw the light on his porch was on. Gathering his courage, Jonah walked up to the door and opened it with his own set of keys.
The moment he stepped into the house, the stench of the place was what made Jonah fear the worst. He dropped the bag on the floor and went deeper into the house. The smell got worst when he got into the living room. There, his father sat on the couch with flies flying around empty pizza boxes and crushed beer cans with nacho crumbs scattered all over the place. The TV was on and in his father's mouth was a cigarette butt that had probably died out a long time ago.
Jonah held his breath and went to his dad, checking for the pulse that didn't seem to be there. The funny thing was as he called for an ambulance that night, his heart which had been racing like a horse started to calm down. Everything after that happened so fast. Statements were made and reports were filed, ts were crossed and is were dotted. Jonah took the time to breathe in the fresh air before he called the first person he thought of.
"Liz...dad's dead."
