Wearing a pair of skinny silk pants that looked like they had been sprayed on with a shirt that had enough lace and froth to make Lord Oscar Wilde happy, Dare swept into the garden with his black pinstriped morning tuxedo complete with knee length tails, and silver framed round John Lennon style sun glasses. With his long silvery hair brushed to gleaming he looked like he belonged at the Grammies, not this semi-stuffy brunch, but Bree was thrilled to see him. "You look great. I am so glad you made it, thanks so much Dare," she said going up and taking his hand as she kissed his cheek.
To his credit he didn't blush, pull away or wipe his cheek. "I told you I wanted to help support your cause. I think it's great," he said nodding at the red headed young man at her side. "Hey Mew. Nice to see you," he said, glad to see his friend looking so well.
Bree didn't let go of Dare's hand especially as he seemed likely to flee from a fit of shyness. "Everyone I would like to introduce my first supporter for Rainbow Bridge. This is Dare Madison, a junior at our school. His dad who is Maddog Madison of Toxic Religion has pledged to play a concert that will contribute all proceeds to the fund to get us started. He hopes that some of the bands that are part of our school will also donate their time and talent by acting as opening acts to their performance. He has also offered to fund a contest for artists to design a tee-shirt for the concert/project with a prize of one K to the chosen designer to help them get started or an equivalent bond for schooling. I suppose now i should tell you what Rainbow bridge is all about. With the recent events that happened at our school, I like many of our students have been thinking about what a horrible waste it was that we lost students to hate crimes. I feel horrible for the victims families, but the truth is that most of the families are doing rather well for themselves. I wanted to find a solution to the violence itself so I have been doing research. Most of the research says that gang violence comes from a lack of self-respect and recognition of worth especially in lower income neighborhoods. With parents that work full-time or more, the youth have no encouragement from healthy adults to lead them to activities that can express their feelings in a healthy non-violent manner. Rainbow bridge would be a youth center with artistic and cultural leanings that would encourage artistic expression while also emphasizing cultural awareness not in a way designed to segregate the races, but to give themselves pride in themselves and where their people came from. This would handle two aspects of the problems. One fostering a healthy view of self and others and also using up the time that lies heavily upon their hands and can lead them into activities that can lead to crime and violence. My ultimate goal would be to have guidance counselors as part of the staff and scholarship opportunities for extraordinary students to get the on the path to improve their lives. At the moment I am looking at a location in Van Nuys for the center. Of course money is the first issue so I am asking for helpers and contributors. If you have an idea for a fund raiser and would like to head the project, please talk to either me or Haley Rowan who is my partner and the Silver coordinator of this project. One of the fund raisers that I already have school okay on is International week. Each day will be devoted to a different culture like Chinese where we will have guest chef's come in to donate their time to make indigenous cuisine. A portion of the cafeteria take will go to Rainbow Bridge and we will also sell tables on the quad where various merchants can come and sell their wares during lunchtime. If you or you parents know any chefs or merchants that might be interested in fostering cultural awareness, please let us know or tell them of our plans and give them our card. There are stacks of them on the buffet table. Help yourselves to them please."
Dare clapped as Bree finished. He ducked his head and faced the crowd. "This could make a real difference to our city and I really encourage everyone to get involved. Bree has really done her research on all this and if you think your parents might want to contribute she has copies of her sources and conclusions along with the prospectus and expected budget if anyone needs them, Dare said for he had already sent a copy to his father's business advisor. I have applications for opening performers which would need to be returned with a sample disk and also the entry form for tee shirt designers. They're free so please consider helping with your talents and time. It's much more satisfying than just writing a check, though those are welcome as well." He grinned and handed Bree a check to start them out.
Bree almost dropped it when she read the amount. "Maddogg Madison has donated $250,000 already to Rainbow Bridge Foundation. Thank you so much Dare," she gave the slender youth a big hug and kissed both cheeks. "Okay there is still lots of food, so enjoy yourselves. Just so you know we need to clear out by one o'clock. Thanks everyone for listening.
