"JeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEfff!" The name came out as more of a disgruntled unhappy whine. "What are you wearing?! Didn't mom show you the stuff she bought you the other day while we were out? That argyle sweater vest would have been *perfect* today!" Varina's voice cut through the crowded hall as she rushed up towards her brother both hands on her hips, but her feet at exactly shoulder length apart. She was posing. As she always did.
"Oh.My.God, seriously, Jeff, you just gotta start dressing like you care about something! I mean, what would Clinton say?" The Clinton of whom she spoke was the co-host of What Not To Wear, and one of the older teen's absolute idols. She was constantly trying to push "proper" fashion onto her outed brother, forever attempting to make him more "gay-appropriate". "You aren't ever going to go on a proper date looking like that!" Up flew her hands fingers spread wide in an over-shown display of exasperation.
Propping one hand on a hip which jutted out and the other hand lifted for a forefinger to tap the side of her cheek, V looked thoughtfully at her brother. "I have it!" The squee had likely been heard by dogs a few blocks away. "Just a little bit of eyeliner, and we'll fix your hair so it swooshes down in front of the right eye, the RIGHT mind, and spike up the back a little..."

Jefferson winced as Varina's shrill voice cut through the noise of students free from class, if only for a brief pause. If Varina wanted him, that could only mean one thing: yet another attempt at a makeover he didn't want. He began casting about for a means of escape, but she was upon him before he could formulate a proper plan.
"It was hideous!" He mumbled furiously. He'd donated more clothes to Goodwill in the last year than most people gave in a lifetime, but neither his mother nor his sister seemed to get that he didn't like their choices. There was absolutely nothing wrong with his Bama t-shirts and hoodies. In fact, they were far preferable to the uncomfortable and ridiculous clothing that passed for fashion. The only Clinton he knew of was a politician, and he was fairly certain that the former president had better things to concern himself with than the clothing choices of high school sophomores. He was also fairly certain that he didn't want to go on a date with anyone who shared Varina's taste in clothes.
"I won't wear it. It looks dumb." He might as well have not spoken, however, as Varina immediately launched into an excited and incredibly terrifying explanation of how he ought to fix his hair.
"There's nothing wrong with my hair!" He insisted indignantly, desperately praying that she wouldn't share this new vision with their mother though he knew this hope to be in vain; Varina and Helen McIntosh were thicker than thieves and as far as Jefferson was concerned they were just as much trouble. "And I'm not wearing eyeliner."
He began shuffling away from her, hoping she wouldn't notice he was moving until it was too late.

It was as though he'd said nothing at all about the clothes looking dumb, or his hair being fine the way it was. That was just the way it was with Varina, she had a gay brother, and being gay was in with many thanks to modern media. He was clearly unhappy with how he looked, he always had a little wrinkle between his eyebrows when she saw and and so the older teen had translated that in her mind as being unhappy with ones appearance. Which she could fix!
Didn't she religiously watch such shows as Project Runway, Next Top Model, What Not to Wear, ad nauseum. She knew fashion. It was her passion, her calling, she would be a model one day... if only she could get over a few little quirks first, but no one needed to know that.
A hand snapped out like a viper striking and grabbed Jefferson's wrist to keep him where he was while the other pulled a small, thin pencil like object from her purse and pressed it into the palm of the captured hand. "Trust me, you'll look fabulous!" There was such certainty in her eyes, such a show of devotion to her brother and how he should look. The sad little boy in a sad little world, well if two McIntosh women had anything to say about it he would be sad and lonely forever!
"Oh! And I got tickets to the Jonas Brother's concert, you'll go with me right? Mom said she had other things to do and it'll be a great learning experience for you!"

"Umm. What?" Jefferson asked in a flat voice, eying the object she'd shoved into his hand as though it were poisonous. He wished he had a less tenacious older sister; life would be so much easier without Varina constantly trying to shove her stereotypes onto him. He wasn't entirely sure what he was holding, but since it came from Varina it could only be an object of great evil. He would have dropped it to the floor if only she'd let go of his wrist, but she had a vice-like grip. How could such a small girl be so strong?!
He attempted to yank himself away at the mention of Jonas Brothers concerts. "That's okay." He told her, struggling to free himself. "School is enough of a learning experience." That and he really couldn't stand the JoBros. Or at least, he couldn't stand their fans, and he hated finding his own CDs replaced with theirs. Or Cher. Or whatever other awful divas and teeny bopper idols his sister thought he ought to listen to, because apparently finding other boys attractive meant he ought to act like a stereotypical girl.
"Maybe one of your friends could go with you." He suggested, hoping to deflect some of her enthusiasm onto someone else.

It was no secret that Jefferson McIntosh was plagued by his sister. Isaiah wasn't sure what her issue was, but no guy should be tormented about fashion the way the younger football player was. Being a bit late to lunch, Isaiah stopped by his locker to get his lunch bag, hoping he wouldn't run into Raven again and then passed the McIntosh's.
Feeling like he should do a good deed after blowing up earlier, Isaiah decided rescuing Jefferson was the perfect choice. "Hey Jefferson, you coming to lunch or what?" he called and approached the two of them. He hoped that his senior status would awe Varina enough that she would be stunned long enough to let the boy escape.
"Hello Varina," he said giving her his best charming smile. "Jonas Brothers? Not my first choice, but I am sure you and one of your friends will have a great time. My sister likes them... I think." He really had no idea, but the girls were around the same age, so it was probable."

About to go off on why having Jeff along would be so much better, Varina's mouth snapped shut at the approach of Isaiah.
Good looking. Check that!
Senior. Gotta double check the year book.
Male. Oh definately.
Having lunch with her brother! OMG!OMGOMGOMG
A wide, happy grin spread across V's face as her eyes light up like over-bright LED Christmas lights. This was perfect! Excitement churned within the female McIntosh so that she practically vibrated with it. Her eyes taking in every detail of the two boys as though she were piecing together a child's puzzle.
When the final piece snapped into place, Varina's hand removed itself from around her brother's wrist and waved it to include both of them.
"Heaven forbid I keep the two of you from having lunch together! Jeff, you should have told me you were expected by your boyfriend!" her grin widened, as if it were even possible! "More! You should have told me you were dating someone! Mom'll be so happy!" Her voice went up at the end of 'happy' to make it another squee.
"You two go! Have fun! Jeff, details later!"

Isaiah was surprised at how quickly Varina was letting Jefferson go and the delight she had at the fact they were having lunch. No one had ever even hinted at thinking he was gay before so it didn't occur to him where this was leading. The expression on his face was classic when she called him her brother's boyfriend. His knees actually wobbled and he had to catch his balance on a locker. "Huh?..... boyfriend? I think you have made a mistake," he said rather feebly.
After that morning the last thing he expected was to be outted for being gay when he was the straightest person he knew. He wasn't homophobic, but he had never even considered such a thing. "I... I really am not gay. There is nothing wrong with it, but I am attracted to girls, really!"

The relief Jeff felt at Isaiah's appearance quickly dissipated with Varina's assumptions, replaced by absolute mortification. His sister and mother made it near impossible for him to invite friends home with him, and now they were conspiring to prevent him from having perfectly innocent relationships with his teammates. He was sure that Isaiah would never speak to him again, would wonder if perhaps the younger McIntosh had lead Varina to her wrong-headed conclusions himself somehow. It really didn't help that he would much rather have dated Isaiah than most of the guys Varina thought he should go out with. (The Juarez brothers, anyone? Eww, no thanks! Not his type at all.)
"Winnie!" He dropped the pencil....thing....she'd given him, staring in horror. "We're not...he's not....I'm single!" He growled. He decided against asking why he wouldn't have told her if he was dating someone, because it had crossed his mind more than once that if he ever did acquire a boyfriend it would be in his best interest not to let his family know. "Isaiah's on the football team with me." He continuously wished that she would pay more attention to who was who on the football team, since in his mind that went along with the whole popularity thing, but she seemed to have some sort of vendetta against football.
He shot the Senior an apologetic glance, turning red, "Sorry 'bout that. Don't know where she got that idea."

Isaiah put a hand on Jefferson's shoulder. "It's okay, I know what sisters are like," he said quietly. His sister might not have been quite as annoying as Varina, but she had her moments. She desperately wanted Isaiah to be less... well Christian and more partyish, but he was who his mother had made him to be. He preferred youth group to keggers and that was unlikely to change especially after the last time he tried to loosen up some.
"My church has nothing against homosexuality, some of the Priests even are gay," Isaiah said with a short laugh. "I'm not personally, but in some parishes there are even GBL fellowship groups." He wanted Jefferson to know he wasn't upset and that he wasn't going to hate him because his sister made a mistake.
