Dare came out of the bathroom in a large terry-cloth robe. His long hair was dripping as he went to knock on Eliza's door. He had just gotten off the phone with Maddog and wanted to tell her what he said so there wouldn't be any problems later. "Eliza? There is breakfast in our living room, Marco made Omelets and toast. Do you like tea or coffee?" he called.
Slowly rubbing her eyes, Eliza heard Dare's muffled voice through the door. She had a little difficulty bringing herself out of bed but she took her time going to the door and opening it a smidge. Her baby blue jammies were apparent to Dare as she smiled at the young boy. "Neither. Do you have orange juice? I'm not really a tea or coffee person." Eliza admitted. "Let me brush my teeth and I'll join you."
"We have all kinds of juices," Dare said and went to pour some orange juice for the both of them. He liked juice better himself unless he could have coke which his father didn't allow for breakfast or lunch. He brought out the pitcher and two glasses. The coffee table already had two covered plates with two omelets and fruit salad, a basket with whole wheat toast, a butter dish and two jars of jam. Dare sat to wait.
Eliza joined Dare at the table and carefully plopped herself down beside him. "Okay...I don't do fancy but this is pretty neat." Eliza smiled. She waited for Dare to eat first out of courtesy. "So what do you have planned for today?"
Dare smiled and waved at her plate so she could eat while he was talking. "Shopping... I have a friend that is pretty down and I would like to cheer her up. Also my dad said having my friends over tomorrow is all right so I need to go to whole foods to get stuff to feed them with. Marco won't be here so I will get their caterer to do it for me. Then if I am not exhausted, I might try to get a new outfit..." Dare blushed slightly and began to eat so he wouldn't have to explain that.
The blush made Eliza smile as she picked on her food, not sure why she suddenly didn't have an appetite. "That's nice. You're a good friend, wanting to cheer your friend up and all." She said with a big smile. She was hit with the sudden realization that Dare had so much good in him that he was insane to just end it all. He could make someone truly happy if he just opened up.
Dare blushed deeper. "We have a lot in common," he said with a hint of sadness. The truth was he didn't really know that as they hadn't had the chance to meet the day before, but he thought he and Annie would plus they had both been hurt by the same person's prejudices, even if Annie had only liked Phil as a friend while Dare had been crushing big time. "Do you like to bake?" he asked suddenly.
Nodding, Eliza gingerly bit into a piece of watermelon as she contemplated on continuing the conversation but Dare's sudden question made her eyebrows jump up. "I do. But nothing major. I just love baking cookies and whatnot. I like making brownies." She offered, not too sure why Dare was interested.
"Well Annie loves to make cupcakes and I think that might be a good thing to cheer her up, stuff to do that with. Can you help me pick out things she might like?" Dare asked, not wanting to get her a bunch of junky products she wouldn't like. He knew there were some baking supply places in town, but he wasn't sure which ones had the best selections.
"Oh," she smiled widely. So the blush might not be for this Annie character but it was still something to see Dare animated. "If that will make her happy that's a pretty good idea. When do you want to go?"
Dare thought about it and shrugged. "As soon as possible I guess. I would like to go while the other kids are in school. I am not ready to face anyone yet," he said, looking sheepish. He didn't want to be a coward, but seeing Phil would be devastating and anyone else almost as bad.
"We could go after breakfast?" Eliza suggested. It would be a great opportunity for them to bond. They didn't do much of that during their first introduction. Eliza had a bad case of the sleepies. "Are you up for that?"
"Yeah that would be good or you can take a shower if you want to, I don't want to rush you out," Dare said, knowing Syn never went out without showering first. "Oh Syn said she would be home for dinner tonight if you want to meet her." He was surprised she hadn't tried to get out of it, but she had seemed more subdued than usual. She hadn't even called him any names not even Perve Boy which was her favorite for him.
Looking down at her jammies, she pouted. "What's wrong with my jammies?" She looked back up at Dare and grinned. "Kidding...yeah I need a shower. Would you be alright with waiting? Maybe you could call your driver or do you want to ride with me on my Vespa?"
Dare liked Eliza well enough but he could not see himself riding with a pregnant lady on a scooter. "We'll need the car for our purchases," he said rather firmly, not meeting her eyes. "How long shall I tell him?" he couldn't tell if she was a long prep person or a short one.
"An hour." Eliza grinned sheepishly, thinking of her condition. Taking off her things might take half an hour and then putting them back on after a shower...well. She pushed herself up and walked to her room. "You look nice in your robe." She called out over her shoulder before disappearing into the bathroom.
Coming out of the room again in approximately an hour after in a billowy dress that cinched under her chest and fell freely down to her knees. "Alright..I'm ready."
Dare blinked and said, "That's a pretty dress." He went to push the elevator button. "Tony will be out front. He is really nice." He then wondered where Eliza's baby daddy was and if he should try to fix her up with the tall Italian driver.
Thanking Dare, Eliza tucked a lock of hair behind her ear before smiling at him, not knowing what he meant by the compliment he gave his own driver. When the elevator arrived, Eliza stepped in and adjusted the dress over her belly. "This is my first shopping trip in a car.." she laughed uneasily.
Dare raised a light eyebrow and smiled. "It really is the easiest way to go about it," he said, trying to reassure her. "My dad said when you were ready I should help you with the baby's room. He has set up an account at a baby store I should take you to." The elevator door opened and he led her out to the curb where a long silver limo sat. A tall attractive Italian opened the door. "Eliza this is Tony, he can drive you wherever you need to be." Tony looked a lot more like a Mafia body guard than a typical driver and he smiled and bowed as he held the door for her. "Nice to meet you, Ms. Eliza," the man said properly.
"Eep! No need to be so formal! Please. Just Eliza." A deep blush formed on both of Eliza's cheeks. The guy was really attractive but after Steve left, Eliza was a bit cautious when it came to looking at guys in general. Hiding her face in her hand a bit, she slid into the car and looked around her. "Wow...so you always go places in this? Wow..." she repeated her amazement as she looked at the interior of the limousine.
Dare kind of ducked his head, embarrassed. "Dad is afraid someone will try to kidnap me or something. He says someone tried when I was younger, so now Tony is stuck with me when I am out of the apartment," he told her. He wasn't really sure it had happened, but Maddog had been paranoid ever since. For one thing Dare was way too trusting. The driver pulled away from the curb and went to the first place on the list that Dare had given him. "How long have you lived in LA Eliza?" Dare asked to pass the time.
"Oh my God...the things people do," Eliza shuddered, her hand automatically going to her belly to stroke it lightly. "I can't imagine anyone ever touching my baby without my consent.." she shuddered once more. As the limo lurched forward, Eliza turned to Dare when he asked his question. "Oh...almost ten years? Or less, I haven't really kept count." Truth was, she hadn't kept count since her boyfriend became her boyfriend and then became an ex. Everything blurred by so fast. "I took up nursing courses here after I graduated from college back in France."
"I liked France a lot," Dare said, trying to imagine what it would be like to be there and come and go as he liked. They pulled in front of a large baking supply place. "There was an article on the net that said this was a good place for baking stuff."
Looking at the place, Eliza bit her lower lip and shrugged. Most good things come from cheap places. "Oh...their decorating stuff is pretty neat here." She climbed out of the car and held her hand out to Dare.
Dare felt odd taking her hand, like their places were switched or he was just a child, but he didn't raise a fuss for he had been brought up to be always polite despite the odd company he had kept all his life. He slid out and moved ahead to open the door for her, which made him feel he had regained some of his dignity. He grabbed a shopping cart and began looking around at the well marked aisles.
Slowly rubbing her eyes, Eliza heard Dare's muffled voice through the door. She had a little difficulty bringing herself out of bed but she took her time going to the door and opening it a smidge.
